There's an old Red Skelton movie where he is kidnapped by gangsters and held in a basement and he takes a forties radio and makes it transmit to call for help. A telephone operator was also involved. Not sure what he did, but it seemed kind of complicated.

@@aeroflopper working headphones can be plugged into the mic jack and used in reverse, very crappy sound, but the idea remains. Sound waves propagate out from the diaphragm, but if you vibrate that diaphragm yourself, it will send those correlating vibrations back through the wire. The only issue is the distance those weak vibrations can travel through a soft medium as air to be considered broadcasting.

If I want a selfie so bad ill use the front camera.
What sucks is the fact that you cant switch off the microphone on your cell phone when not in use unless you were to wire a switch into the device and would be necessary to turn it off every time you use the phone so you cant be monitored by audio transmissions when you are not using the device.
If there is a switch of any kind in your device that switch can be activated on your phone without your knowledge remotely having it show that function is turned off when it is on.
Of course, you would need to be a person of interest in order for such things to happen but it can be implemented if found necessary to do so by anyone with the knowledge to get that information.

Ok so lots of misinformation in this video.
2 way radios.... if you did not know that a wireless device had a 2 way radio what did you think allowed to communicate. These radios are not hidden a secret or even not disclosed. It tells you on the package.
Ok I understand you have a HAM license so I find it hard to believe you think SSB is a different modulation. Its AM modulation. As a frequency is modulated it creates side bands on the 1st upper and lower harmonic. By filtering the carrier wave to one of these harmonics you are able to use a side band. This was the first tech used to make 2 simultanious way comms.
Next we get into psk and fsk. They do not do anything with an FM carrier. They are separate modulations. They resemble FM but they are not FM.
BLE no, every thing you said about it no. BLE standard firstly is designed to use less energy and provide a similar range. Secondly you have to have a BLE capable device, it is incomparable with a bluetooth classic or BLR device as you need specific hardware and firm ware.
      Now on to mesh networks.
Mesh networks are a type of topology for networking. Where every device is connected to every other device in the network. As appsed to the mesh-star topology used in must personal networks.
The trick with mesh is it has to be in the network. That is some one has to say "tv, radio, and toaster you are all a network"
The devices then independently connect to each other.
Connecting to the internet is a different setup. So no mesh networks at least for a personal network are not sending any one elses trafic.
If you live in a big city and have free hotspots around town provided by the ISP. Those are meshed to allow fast internet activity.
These devices are still a security risk as
      1. Wireless transmission can be intercepted
      2. Iot standards trade device security for ease of access
      3. Mesh networks communicate on a level 0 bases this bypasses firewalls and other security.
This is nothing new and has been an issue since IOT is a thing.
Oh and of course these devices have an IPv6 address they are networked and IPv6 was implemented specificaly because 4 was used up. The also have a mac adress in accordance with FCC regulations.

One very important note. Internet providers and cable providers have been sneaking an extra device into people's installs....a public wifi hotspot device.
I recently caught our big internet supplier doing this during an "upgrade" at one of our business locations. Had I not been an IT guy, and also the building manager at that location, this would not have been caught. I took a few minutes to inspect the new equipment, identifying each one, but this one device appeared to be another extra wireless AP. It would have been installed, allowing the public to join traffic behind their gateway, inside our physical network. It would have been a security risk. Instead, the cable company home office was told where they could shove it.

I've also had songs come to mind, go to YT, and it's at the top of my recommended.
The only possibility is it either has a fine grained enough psychological and social profile of the majority of the population to accurately predict enough for me to notice, it is able to influence everyone's behavior enough that it knows I'll find what it's pushing relevant, or it's controlling our behavior directly. There are large threads on forums out there of similar "they're reading my mind man" observations.

Or perhaps its those nefarious and pesky traffic monitors who "claim" they are just using the highway cameras for dispatching emergency vehicles and to monitor traffic congestion. But in reality, they are beaming retinal scans into the eyes of all drivers, looking to detect "social deviants" that might try to undermine their master plan of exposing the reptilian order who seek to hide the truth about our flat earth and the pending doom hurling at us by the invisible planet Niburu. @@carlovincetti4538 The point is that on older phones if you don't want to be tracked for whatever reason, you can remove the battery, and the device is fully and genuinely shut down. But modern smartphones can't actually be shut down - when you "turn it off" it simply enters a sleep or standby state, with some low level curciots still operating. I think it was even demonstrated with certain devices that they still can transmit their location, or at least ping cell towers that allows for triangulation and even receive commands in this state, so eg. they could remotely turn it back on and activate the camera and mic, and the only way to porecent this is by destroying the phone, or leaving it at home.

No offense, as I realize it's just a show and this isn't directed at you... but...
Have you ever considered the idea that perhaps the fact you all used to watch Doctor Who might be part of the problem? I know it's an unpopular question, but it begs an answer, because quite frankly...
All the people who should know better and yet are doing all these things that make us worry... are the same types of people who don't realize the consequences of their actions; and these same people all tend to like Doctor Who.
Seriously. Ever idiot I meet likes the doctor, even one of my dumb brothers. The smart ones prefer others shows, but the dumb one? Naw, he liked Doctor Who.
And so do a lot of other dumb people I have met. Some smart ones too, but that makes me wonder then... are the 'smart' ones just clever enough to trick me into thinking they aren't dumb?
Either or. The end point in this all is this.
With the sheer amount of people who watch the doc both old and young... you would think that more of them would have noticed these sorts of things by now.
So far, only 31 people have noticed ,going by that thumbs up counter.
31 out of potentially billions of people due to how widespread that atrocity of a show is.
Anyways. To finish this off: The essential point of what I am getting at is this.
Since hardly anyone is noticing the problem that you did notice from Doctor Who; it can be somewhat hypothesized at least that perhaps the show has desensitized them to the stimuli that you or I pick up on.
It's either that, or people who like D.Who were already dumb as bricks.
      Take your pick.

It's theoretically possible for the government to sneak into your home when you are away and replace all of your standard mirrors with two-way mirrors with cameras behind them. But is practical? Is it reality? No.
It's not "the government" you need to watch out for. It's data gathering companies that are whoring your data out to anyone with a dollar to spend. Got interested in it when we noticed two years ago, our sheriff's station (literally can see their backdoor from my driveway) put up a huge new repeater tower. It appeared they had the standard repeater equipment used by law enforcement, but the installation was hugely bigger than they needed. Within 6 months, all the empty spaces available around the tower was filled with radio antenna equipment, including what looks like 5G receivers (or whatever they're called) Good Lord in Heaven, it looks like our sheriff can send and receive signals from the Moon, LOL. Sorry, long story short--our neighborhood is being bombarded with RF these days.

@david ball When I first heard a story like yours about 5 years ago I didnt believe it. Just coincidence. Over time, more stories. From about a year ago it started happening to me. Then it happened more, for example, my laptop camera turning on for 5 seconds and then off. That CANNOT happen because for a web cam to work, you have to have an application ON like Skype which has the capability to have a video conversation. With all those apps OFF, how can the cam come on? It cant, yet it did, and it took my pic and sent it somewhere. Two nights ago, my wife and I were talking about something and I was at my table looking at youtube stuff. Next time I refreshed the home page, two videos came recommended on those very topics. I never before had searched or watched any such video. These "coincidences" happen to me about twice a week now. I discovered one method why its happening. I use VOIP and a headset a lot. It has a mic and earphones. Its always on, either on my head on idle on the table. With no apps running, no conversations going, both mic and earphones are still "live" and thats how whatever im talking about in the room is being broadcast somewhere. Ive started to unplug the mic whenever im not on a call but I cant stop my wife's phones that are always on and that explains why she complains this crap happens to her too.

Everyone just walking around with cellphones in their pockets all day, going everywhere with them. I imagine governments sat around for decades wondering how they could put a population under surveillance without them noticing when along come cellphones and those populations willingly undergo the surveillance process themselves and more or less acknowledge it.
