Apparently it is possible to get it to space without using slew mode. If you read the description for the Pelican in the menu it says that it's in a training mode but there's a code you can enter to enable the full engine power. What that code is, I'm not sure. 343? 117? Something else?
yeah I did the same thing but I just started using to auto pilot. it's hard to hold it straight at that speed with a Xbox controller. aka I play on Xbox series s. been thinking about buying a stick and peddles from thrust master. but for some reason the only time I play Microsoft flight simulator is when none of my friends are online. I play out of boredom but they keep adding cool features like with the top gun dlc I've been a huge fan of the dark star.
Man I hope flight sim continue to do more awesome collabs like Halo and Top Gun! There's so many other awesome fictional aircraft they could implement in into the game!!

Just a quick FYI, the Pelican does in fact have a Mach meter, however unlike the Darkstars the Pelican's is digital. On the normal flight display in front of you (showing your pitch ladder, altitude and airspeed) Look under the airspeed box on the left, you'll see the letter M with a number next to it, this is your Mach number. Below that is GS, that's your ground speed, TAS is your true airspeed, i.e. airspeed corrected for altitude (yes yes I know there's more complex explanations, but I'm not getting into it unless someone asks) and then G, which is the current G load.

This thing is unflyable for me. Whenever I go past 70% throttle or afterburner, the flight mode switch freaks out and all the engines shudder and freak out too. Also in external camera, I can pan around with my hat switch as normal, but my camera also pans when I move the joystick left or right, I don’t want it to do that either. WTH is wrong with this thing?!
Factually going off your statement being in space at 275,000 feet - you still well short of the recognised edge of Space starting at 330,000 feet past the Karman Line. Your Pelican is still very much in the Turbopause atmosphere.
This has replaced the JMB VL3 as my favorite way to explore a new scenery area, with its combined ability to cover ground fast but also hover like a drone as slow as I want and land wherever I want. And even in drone mode it can still go faster than a lot of cars can. Also if you look under the center display in the cockpit, you will see autopilot buttons, including both VS and FLC which would have come in very handy for your altitude test instead of having to constantly adjust the trim like you did.
If you read the actual description of the pelican, it states that this model has throttling and altitude limitation features typical of civilian and military training craft. And it must be disabled remotely, meaning there is no way to disable it yourself.

That's not what the cockpit of a Pelican looks like. In the cockpit of a Pelican the pilot sits underneath the copilot, wich obiously means the copilot sits overneath the pilot.
I am absolutely in love with the Pelican. I hope to see something like this in the future. It just looks practical and I will believe that until I die! Would be really awesome to see something like a Pelican in real life.
I agree 100%. Something about its design just feels so right. No different than the way I view a V22 Osprey, just much better thruster tech. With the right engines and the right power source it seems very practical.
It's nice knowing people think the Pelican looks realistic, it's been my fav sci-fi vehicle for 20 years now. One day we'll be making them in real life to kick some alien ass.
She'll hit 60k and cruise there without any trickery. Here's how: *Set AP ALT to 57k, VS 4000ft/m. Engage at max speed. As you hit 56k engage 'ALT Hold'. Craft should level at 57k, 255kts. Increase ALT level by 1000ft to 58k, climb and maintain for 246kts. Repeat for 59k, 237kts. Then repeat again for 60k, 227kts* 👍 (I was actually able to hit 61k this way, but when I went for 62, she started sinking soon after)

You need to go altitude hold at 30000 (autopilot, not modes) then go forwards to Mach 1. Then you can go up

Msfs2020 are in partnership with aviation and space museum so anything is possible like the space shuttle.
