    This is the best interview with Dr. Campbell I have seen. Please keep sharing this information. The research and facts of whole plant foods and the health benefits and nutritional aspect of this way of eating and living allows individuals to take responsibility for their health. This is the future. This is taking an important step toward saving our planet.

      Hi Joann, I offer various health and nutrition consults, however once many symptoms or conditions are progressed, as in your case, I can only recommend you to visit and start a proper holistic treatment program with a licensed naturopathic or holistic doctor. You can start by researching naturopaths in your local area. Another option is to call and learn about your options at high quality healing centers like:
      1. Dr. Morse's: www.drmorsesherbalhealthclub.com/
      or
      2. Dr. Pam Popper's: wellnessforumhealth.com/

    Our non-profit organization has just submitted a grant to help young adults who have gotten DUI's and after re-reading the best book I know on how to cure yourself of alcoholism, I was struck how much the hypoglycemic symptoms mirrored the ones of an alcoholic. Dr. Campbell's Plant Based Nutrition science shows how the foods that are addictive actually cause hypoglycemic symptoms. Because I have combined my education and training with oriental and native American understandings, one of the major reasons I have chosen a whole plant strong life is that I don't want the feelings and negative emotions of the creatures like pigs, chickens, and cows. Who would want to be depressed like a cow whose baby has just been stolen from her after birth? Depression is one of the major factors in recovering alcoholics: the less they drink to hide their depression, the more depressed, and then suicidal, they become. I don't want those feelings causing me to have outbursts that frighten my loved ones and/or estrange my friends. This esoteric reason to be a plant based proponent is not talked about in scientific circles very much, but we can't separate our needs. This would deny science and the 'whole\ concept. We must be a whole person and not deny our total range of emotions. With no creature's emotions being stored in our body fat anymore, we can achieve a place of peace and joy, that is unreachable when we are involved eating foods that have suffered and are grieving or are enraged. If the listeners wonder where their negative feelings/emotions are coming from, look to your plate and your glass! Dr. Flora

      So excellent to hear! Thank you so much Dr. Flora. This is something that is a huge part of this all and something I resonate with very much myself. Thank you for bringing more awareness to this topic, as it is indeed detrimental to our mental and emotional health, not just our physical.

    I have autoimmune diseases (allergies and Hashimoto's) and I always get a bad reaction in my body (especially in my skin and digestion) when I eat the smallest amounts of animal foods or even when I eat too much protein from legumes or nuts. What makes me sad or angry is that the science was already there when I was a child suffering from eczema and allergies but no one have ever thought to first eliminate the animal foods before diagnosing me with different fruit allergies and forcing me to eat meat and dairy instead :(

    • @Healthytarian
      @Healthytarian  7 років тому

      That is really unfortunate to hear, and one of the main reasons why I am so passionate to share this info and teach about these topics. As you pointed out, the info is out there, but unfortunately hard to find (still) for most people, as it is not shared around freely in the mainstream science, medical or nutrition fields. Thank you so much for sharing your comment and experience, and I hope you are doing better now that you know how to best work with your food.

    What an eye opener....I need to learn more on how to eat whole plant based....does this mean all animal proteins are eliminated from your diet meaning poultry? Thank you

    • @Healthytarian
      @Healthytarian  7 років тому +2

      Hi Sherri, yes, this includes all animal foods and thus proteins: all meats (red and white, fish and seafood), eggs and dairy. That is of course for those who are wanting the top benefits and protection from their diet. The way I help people understand the problem with animal proteins in the simplest way is this: think of what happens to people when they have an organ or tissue transplant. They have to be put on major immune-suppressing drugs because there is a high risk of the body rejecting the foreign tissue in a serious way, as there are "foreign animal proteins" present, which the body begins to attack. Well, when we eat the flesh and secretions of other animals, they contain foreign animal proteins that our body will always react to, just slowly over time....which we regard today as inflammation, acidity, and ultimately "chronic disease". With plant proteins it is different, because we are dealing with quite different biochemistry, from plants (very different from us) than animals (very similar to us). However, here too, if people obsess about high protein plant diets, it still is not good for the body, which thrives on much lower protein amounts than we realize.
      If this is all new for you, there are so many amazing places to start, or resources for further help and understanding. It all depends what you would most like or are ready for. Here are a few suggestions:
      1. The Healthytarian plant-protein infographic, which quickly summarizes optimal human protein needs and plant amounts: www.healthytarian.com/post/protein-in-plant-foods
      2. My optimal health food guide: www.evitaochel.com/post/optimal-health-food-guide (free download)
      3. Documentaries like: Forks Over Knives, Plant Pure Nation, Cowspiracy, Food Choices (all on Netflix)
      4. The Forks Over Knives website, some great articles there, recipes, and more: www.forksoverknives.com/
      5. Numerous other doctors, who are experts in nutrition (which is normally rare), and their work, like Dr. Michael Greger, Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, etc.
      6. I can also recommend cookbooks or other nutrition books if that is of interest. And I also have a whole-food, plant-based video course available (most easily found on my website).
      Let me know anytime if I can be of any further help :)

    But if I eat a whole food wheat bread I get so swollen, my genes cannot tolerate wheat, I have a leaky gut and hashimotos thyroiditis, it's a kiss of death to eat whole wheat or any kind of wheat for me. I've been tested genetically for gluten, I don't have celiac, I just can't tolerate gluten, my genes are native mesoamerican and native american and that's why. We didn't have wheat in the new world, our genes have not adapted to wheat and alot of people don't know that and suffer while eating wheat.

      Thanks for sharing your experience. Please note that the majority (over 95%) of all "whole wheat bread" that is available today is unhealthy and inflammatory for many other and bigger reasons than just the wheat. The true "wheat" test is to get organic wheat berries, soak them, cook them, and then see how your body responds. Best wishes!

    I considered the philosophy of Drs. Campbell and Mcdougall carefully and at the very least, there is no harm to health in avoiding certain consumed products including processed foods and what Mcdougall calls isolated, concentrated nutrients, except for limited examples such as small amounts of B12.
    It is safe to assume that processed, isolated chemicals either added to foods or taken in pill forms clearly show examples of harm and I agree with Dr. Campbell that a conclusion can be drawn to avoid where is practical, which is most cases. Examples of impracticality to some people include the higher cost of organic foods to avoid chemical pesticides and herbicides.
    I have respect for the people who choose to make other choices in their life.

    I have a question that feels very on top here about protein, the idea that we need lets say 50grams of protein a day is surely predicated on a certain about of activity. Does that mean if you do very intense physical work or persue something like bodybuilding this number needs to be higher for recovery and muscle development? or is that increase protein needed for recovery still going to lead to the same problems regardless of if your body needs it or not. Basically what im asking is if you use the protein is it still contributing to these problems?

      If too much protein is being consumed it is still too much protein to the body. Protein is not used like calories, where it is "burned" or used with more physical activity. Protein from food, also, must be processed FIRST before it is used. This is a large part of where the health risks come from. Protein is used along with other nutrients, as your body needs it and how it deems it most appropriate. And loading up on protein is not a wise thing to do, as it is not stored like "calories" or "energy" in the body. Extra protein, like any other extra nutrient will eventually be converted into fat as well, if one is eating too many calories of any kind for their needs.

      @@Healthytarian this is very interesting and I appreciate the response. I've been eating between 150-180 grams of protein for 8-9 years at this point and going the gym alot. There's this insane idea in the gym community that no matter how big you get it doesn't matter as long as it's muscle 😂 over the last few years I've started to see just how radical it is. I have decided to dial my meat consumption down radically as of late but I did want to ask where wholegrain breads and whole grain pastas stand in regards to healthy eating. I've found sources of bread with only 4 ingredients and pasta with just wheat and I wondered if this refinement of grain is still unhealthy even though it has the same fibre content as unground wheat

      @@lulusehnihpi8901 You are very welcome. Things such as whole breads with minimal ingredients and pure whole grain pastas are a controversial topic themselves due to everybody's dietary preferences and strong ideas these days. For some people, they are a wholesome and healthy part of their diet, while others shun all processed grains as part of whole food, plant-based eating or many other diets. It all depends on the person's nutritional and health understanding and their personal health priorities and dietary preferences.
      In such cases, it is best to pay attention to your body and how it responds when you eat these items, as well as examine the overall quality of your diet. If someone is basing their diet on such items, that is not a good idea. But if such items are part of a whole food, plant-based diet that is high in fruits and vegetables and beans/legumes, they may be a suitable addition.

    OMG!!!!!! WOW!! No I know why my sister wet the bed until age 13, and why I, as a child, had infection after infection, and runny nose, on meds all the time for fluid behind the ears (remember that lovely childhood thing), 2 surgeries, tonsils and adnoids out and tubes to dran fluid from behind the ear drum, stomach problems, etc. etc. I was soooo sick as a child but the doc kept getting paid (daddy had good insurance, oh and BTW he died of CHF at age 58, in 1983) and kept giving me meds that would only make me thirsty (I drank more milk - Oy vey), and put me to sleep. Many nights no dinner, cause I was not awake enough to eat with the fam. I was sooo skinny. I was also a collicky baby - puking all the time, and crying. I still am not a good sleeper, but thank G-d I did live to tell my story of CHF heart disease reversal and becoming vegan. I also thank G-d I did not get type 2 diabetes. I have been cutting out poision foods (thank G-d, never drank soda - mother wouldn't buy it), and getting educated for 8 years now. I also seeee soooooo many young women with MS, Lupis, Crones, fiber myalga (sorry if I spell these wrong), and they are all big and fat , and their children are fat!!!!! I cry out to the L-rd for them to get this info, and I try to tell them what to do - GO VEGAN, but no one listens to me - I am poor, old, and not a doctor!!!!!!!! The L-rd gave and sent this wisdom to me of healing (been healing 8 years to reverse my CHF), and sent your info to me. I am happy healthy, and thank the L-rd everyday for your teachings doctor and all the other doctors ( Drs. Esselstyn, Campbell, Furhman, Ornish, Bernard, Mills, Goldhammer, Popper, the list is long, and I am equally as long on Thanks!) I have studied. G-d bless you. Pamela Prizant-Brooks 06-12-18

      Indian food is highly plant-based with the numerous legumes and vegetables used in cooking. As long as you have access to fruits, vegetables, legumes, and grains, you can eat a whole food, plant-based diet. Explore Dr. T. Colin Campbell's foundation website for more info and ideas around this topic: nutritionstudies.org/

    Whole foods as God created it. Only when we as sinners want to play god with our plants and animals by changing their unique DNA makeup, have we created monstrously debilitating foods.

    I used to eat anything and everything with no problem, but gradually over the last 5 years I have become highly allergic to wheat.
    I can not eat bread, pasta, cookies, crackers or anything made from wheat. I can tolerate organic oats and all raw or cooked fruits and vegetables but I would rather have a piece of meat, otherwise I feel like I'm starving.

    • @Healthytarian

      Thanks for sharing your experience, Terri. Indeed, modern wheat is doused with numerous harmful pesticides, including glyphosate, that has destructive actions on our intestines and digestive system, as well as our immune system. So it is wise in many cases to minimize it or avoid it accordingly.
      However, there are so many wholesome and satisfying whole plant foods to enjoy and rely on without ever needing to turn to meat, and subjecting one's body and health to the numerous risks that come with it. Just in the grain group alone, there are numerous other grains you can choose instead of wheat, like quinoa, buckwheat, sorghum, teff, amaranth, brown rice, etc. And then, there are so many starchy vegetables that are so filling, including the many types of yams and squashes. And satiety also comes from properly balanced meals that include some healthy fats from nuts, seeds, or avocados.
      So if you are feeling limited with your food choices, be sure to explore the amazing variety that the plant kingdom offers. It sounds like you would benefit from a plant-based nutritionist too, to help you know the amazing potential of plant foods and the infinite combinations of meals possible if you are interested in supporting your health in the best of ways. You can find such support on Plant-based docs here: www.plantbaseddoctors.org/

      Hi Jane. That is great to hear. When it comes to soy milk, while it is safe for both kids and adults, you don't need any of it at all as part of a WFPB diet. Please elaborate if you'd like why you focused on them drinking soy milk.
      Also, if you need support starting, I offer a complete video course about it all here: www.udemy.com/whole-food-plant-based-diet/?couponCode=CARDPROMO

    This way of eating sounds really healthy, but has anyone done a study on how it affects the teeth and bones? I would love to eat this way, but can't afford any more dental pain.

    • @Healthytarian
      @Healthytarian  6 років тому

      Jodi, there is actually a lot of "natural" and "scientific" evidence of how much this way of eating actually helps to protect the teeth and bones. For starters, diets high in animal foods and/or processed and refined foods are acidifying, which is one of the fastest ways to destroy the quality and strength of our bones. A whole-food, plant-based diet is alkalizing, which is highly protective to all parts of the body, organs, and tissues, especially the bones. When we look at nature, (i,e. the natural world) animals do not get cavities like us because they eat the "right diet" for them. Each animal species has its own foundational diet. Whenever animals eat the most natural diet for them, their bodies and health function quite optimally. Humans have gotten away from the right diet for them, in an effort to survive at first, and in recent decades and centuries due to industrialization, traditions, cultural pressures, ignorance, etc. The right and best diet for us, as human animals, is very similar to that of our closest animal relatives, chimpanzees, which is over 95% whole, plant foods.
      With regards to teeth alone, the processed food in our society, especially all of the refined grain and sugar foods, and drinks, are the top reason for poor human dental health. When we remove these foods, and start healing the body with the optimal nutrition that is found in whole plant foods, we start to heal our body and offer it the best healing and prevention.
      For more information about the science behind strong teeth, bones and various foods, I invite you to explore the work of Dr. Michael Greger, who dedicates his entire work to explaining to people all of the science of optimal nutrition: nutritionfacts.org/

    Can a whole food, plant based diet reverse cancer?

    • @Healthytarian
      @Healthytarian  5 років тому

      A whole food plant based diet is the most powerful healing diet to help reverse cancer, but to what degree the cancer can be healed or reversed will depend on other factors beyond diet, mainly mental and emotional healing, as well as the type and state of the cancer, how supportive and healing your environment is, etc. For a more holistic approach to understanding how cancer can be healed, I recommend this film: The Cure Is...
