- Nelson Sullivan was in his hometown of Kershaw, South Carolina, when he had his mole removed by his family's friend and dermatologist, Johnny Brewer. See a small town medical practice in operation in this personal video Nelson made visiting his hometown for the very last time. Video by Nelson Sullivan
I love how he video blogged years before it was a thing. He was very charismatic and handsome.
Rykken Beck I wonder what the doctor was thinking of Nelson filming everything.
Ahead of his time
@Zap Rowsdower Initially he wasn't the first vlogger..
@@Lilapurple111 Me too... I'm asking the same thing...😀
Anyone else forget Nelson is dead when you watch his videos? Its like he's very present in some way.
I know that sounds weird but it makes sense to me.
I know! It was the 30th anniversary of his passing the other day. It’s crazy to think this man is a skeleton now and has been for years. Nelson was dead before the 90s which is crazy to think about. But his life is ever present through his vlogs
True
@@selenamarino5203 He's not a skeleton lol. He's body is literally gone into dust now.
@Mr Jerry He was buried not cremated
Mr Jerry he was buried not cremated
It must have seemed so mundane back then, but 25 years later every single detail is fascinating.
Yeah if you weren't born back then, and you want to compare the people and everything in the world around them to what we're used to today, you can't find a better way to do it. It's hard to find everyday slices of life before the smartphone era captured on video.
It wasn't mundane back then. It just seems that way now as we have way too much stuff. Life was much much simplier and better back in those days.
A Guy Called Pi True, but I was around then and I was 19 at the time but still fascinating to look at. Present time is always mundane for some reason. Thinking what I was doing at this time as a 19 year old is so boring compared to what Nelson was doing and capturing.
And 31 years later even more. Hi from 2020 !!!
Sure is!
"A lot of medical forms around here. These aren't mine but they're very interesting. *reads them*" lmao...
Kenny Robinson Ahhh back before HIPAA and all that silly stuff. lol.
what a lovely unique soul rest with the angels nelson a true original
enigma blue he died?
“Hey little Baptist dog”...😂
That cracked me up😂
His premature death created a vacuum in independent film making. I believe he would have created amazing things beyond these amazing films.
it makes me sad every time i see him. He died way too soon.
Pierre Ske
He would be 68 or 67 today.
He was 41 in 1989 when he died by a heart attack according to sources, he would be 72 then, a good man with many good videos, love the 80s still today, he did a great job vlogging before UA-cam and vlog even start becoming a thing, RIP 💙
@@Iansane5 he should still be alive nowdays..so sad he passed away very early
Such a sweet southern guy. Breaks my heart he left us so soon.
This guy has more confident, sincere charisma than anyone I've ever seen.
He treated his mother wonderfully & loved animals...2 of the most important qualities in a human..Man i loved you Nelson!!!!
Thanks to UA-cam algorithm I am watching this man's library. What a wonderful man he was.He was taken too young and now all these years later how proud he would be that he has/is touching so many lives.
My friend had a heart attack at 30 years old.. another friend had a stroke when he was 23... Nelson had a heart attack. Who cares if he may or may not have also had HIV.. please stop implying what you know nothing about. Honestly, does it even matter. His voice and videos are so wonderful. Let’s just remember him for what an awesome guy he seems to be. RIP. Nelson x
Exactly!! His death certificate would show cause of death. Regardless he seemed like a gentle and beautiful soul. Whatever he died of, it took this man so many have come to love too soon!
@Lil Madenski it's not. In 2017 Fab Melo, fórmula a basketball player for te Boston Celtics died at age 26 from heart arrest while he slept. I happens all the time to people of all age groups. Whatever you are trying to say, just say it. It doesn't matter. He was a gentle soul.
He seemed sluggish in his last years ..undiagnosed heart condition probably?
yeah, some ppl have heart conditions their whole life and dont even know it until its too late. knew of a girl who used to jog at a local park, died of a heart attack at the age of 24.
Thank you! Those comments bother me so much since Nelson is such a sweet person and doesn’t deserve treatment like that. Specially since he can’t defend himself
"Here comes a car. We'll wave at it. Heyyyyyy....It waved back." :)
I am so extremely fascinated by this guy. How I wish he wouldn't have died. Only the good die young, and yes, 41 is way too young.
All the animals loved Nelson.
@Thora Friganza Definitely
Whenever life starts dragging me down, I come here and watch a random day in the life of NS. It always brightens my day.
Me too!! Sheer escapism watching these!
hello, I want to express my feelings here. I am a Turk and I met Nelson Sullivan, the owner of these videos, on UA-cam 4 years ago. although he doesn't know me, he must feel in his grave that I admire him. I watch all of his videos and I spend most of my time on UA-cam with his videos. I understand that you may be surprised and find crazy about what I said, but it makes me feel good. As someone who loves nostalgia, I can say that I am not an American, but I remembered that I am a human being at a time when technology has developed so much. What we feel, our feelings, our love and longing have no language, religion or race. I enjoy watching his videos, it's like I'm on a life journey with him, I love you my friend. RIP🙏
His mother must have been so heart broken to lose her son. They had such an awesome relationship
his mom lived until 98 years old. amazing she out live her son . also her other son died 7 years after she did. how dreadful to outlive your youngest
These hometown videos feel like a goodbye, like he knew he wasn't well. So affecting. Amazing recorded history.
There was an estate sale at the house where the doctor's office was about 2 weeks ago. I had no idea of Nelson's existence until yesterday when a different video was in my recommendations. I actually now own a couple of books that belonged to the doctor.
Neat!
You own a piece of history, that in the past belonged to other people, but now these people don't exist at all, and you had no idea they existed. History is erased easily 😢
he was just so endearing.
He was so skilled with that camera.
I cackled when he said, "Here comes a car. I'll wave at them and see if they wave back.....They waved."
His momma was so sweet and kind to nelson, she must have been devastated when he passed on before her. I can’t imagine
Even doctors are different than they are today. Seemed like they actually gave a shit.
The doctor was a family friend actually, that may have something to do with it or maybe money or stress has something to do with it, who the hell knows lol, the world is so full of assumption's.
Nowadays they just do it for the money, I see them rolling around in $200,000 automobiles
yeah they did. They actually cared more about PATIENTS than about the money, like they do today! and they weren't restricted by 5 million rules and regulations especially about liability.
Just read that Dr Brewer Passed away last year at age 91
Thanks for letting us know!
Such southern hospitality with this doctor. Doctor is amazing. Just send me the forms for the coverage. Now a days doctors ask for everything before they even see you and a deductible payment. What happened.
Obamacare, perhaps?
Lawyers ruin everything
Nelson was so laid back. He seems like he was a great guy.
Kinda wish I knew him.
How on earth could he have died from a heart attack just a few months after this?? Look how young and vibrant he is. And so healthy with all his walking around and everything. I just can't believe it...
***** I thought that, too, but, still, wouldn't he have been sickly? After this video, I watched the one on July 3rd, recorded just hours before he died in the early hours of July 4th. You can see that he's definitely worn out a bit, but he still doesn't look "sick." It's just mind blowing. And, to be honest, it scares me. I'm a bit morbid, I guess, and it makes me think and fear my own untimely death.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look it up :)
+JustNess78 He didn't look sickly nor did he really make mention of how he felt because he was a true professional. Still, he hinted at not feeling so well in his last video. His comments about "They want to run but I'm not going to run," "Today is my last day to not be running," and his yawning and the tired look in his eyes were telling. The way he spoke about the pier, his dog Blackout, and the sun setting... I think he knew he wasn't exactly healthy, but I highly doubt he thought his life was about to end.
The world lost a wonderful man when Nelson Sullivan left this earth.
Begley's Shizzle Well said, my friend. And, yes, I absolutely agree with you. I can see it now, in retrospect.
JustNess78 Most likely cocaine-induced.
I have NO IDEA how I came across one of Nelson’s videos about a week ago…..NO CLUE what made me click on and watch, but I’ve been obsessed ever since and just want to know more and more about him! After watching I then found that he was friends with RUPAUL!!! like WHAT!!! before Ru was THE “RUPAUL”…..then I learned about Mike and the club kids! It’s all so very fascinating! Nelson was my fav out of all the gang! I loved his southern like charm, I loved the fact that he was always himself and so calm and pleasant, I loved that he was drug free( with the exception of smoking a lil weed) but considering all the other things he was around with his peers he was never easily influenced. I wish I could’ve known him! I’m a straight African American girl from Dallas Tx and even though Nelson and I are so different, we would’ve totally been friends if I was around back in that time! ( I was only 8 in 1989😊) he just seemed like a genuine, loving friend. Thanks to whomever is posting these videos! Thank you so much! This guy needed to be shared with the world! Someone should make a movie or do a documentary with some former club kids and Rupaul, and maybe some of Nelson’s relatives so we can learn more about him! Rupaul, you were so blessed and lucky to have Nelson as a friend.❤❤ Rip Nelson!
He seemed way happier in his hometown
Sleepndraw I noticed that too.
Sleepndraw yes, he did. He was his true self back home.
Agree. My thought is that he was treated with respect there and in NYC he was around people who were interested in themselves.
A sweet, gentle man that wouldn't hurt a soul in the world. I'd have been proud to call him my friend
It's odd to think that this was probably the last time these people saw Nelson before he died in July. He'd be around 71 if still alive.
73
I love the Muzak "We've got nothing to be guilty of" playing During his mole removal.
A TRUE SOUTHERN GENTLEMAN. I’m from Charlotte NC and I was 19 at the time. You don’t get those around here much anymore.
Nelson really loved dogs... what a beautiful soul, gone too soon.
Who knows what the camcorder Nelson used? I am interested the exact model.
It's in the Channel's "About" section
I wonder i he was doing this today on youtube how many subscribers he would have
gpuppy1234 he passed a few months after the video
gpuppy1234 carposi carcoma not. Mole
@@Shamariah2011 There's no evidence whatsoever that Nelson was HIV positive.
Can't say this enough, what a gentleman.
Kind caring soul.
I love their response to his insurance question...”just send it later”. Nowadays the first thing they ask for is insurance or payment. Life truly moved at a slower pace back then and I wish I could go back.
The doctor that delivered my grandmother was her doctor her entire life... Imagine that
“Mamma says” 💕 Nelson was so adorable and deadpan. I love how he talks and also that he loves animals
Sucks that he died 5 months after this video, I luv watching his vlogs and wish he was still around today making vlogs on UA-cam. He was definitely ahead of his time..
I wasn't aware doctors still officed in houses in residential areas. Nelson's dermatologist, or maybe his son, is still in a house on South Matson in Kershaw. My family doc kept a couple of hunting dogs in his waiting room. One of them occupied a horsehair sofa and patients another one across the room.
Camcorders were so heavy back then. He did an amazing job filming.
“That’s an improvement” 😂
Nelson has such a dry sense of humor I love it
I could watch him for hours everything he does is just so cosy
I discovered this channel two weeks ago and have watched so many Nelson videos. When I saw another video showing his grave, I was kind of crushed. It's like you almost forget he's gone. So sad. He was so creative and had a beautiful soul. He left us with all these videos and I wish he knew the impact he would have on so many people.
Someone went back to clean it. I saw how forgotten it looked. There’s a Facebook page on him.
He was such an angelic person
It's gotten to the point it's depressing watching any of Nelson's videos from 1989.
It's hard to believe this took place over 30 years ago. As much as I love these videos I can't help but feel a bit sad watching them too, knowing he didn't have much time left and that everyone else in his videos is so much older now.
Dogs love him. Nelson ... wish you were alive.
"Would you look at that tree... that's a mighty oak"😂😂😂
I adore Nelson.
I would have been friends with him. I had friends like him.
I wanna meet Nelson in heaven one day.He never smiled and I like that. An honest thinkin man never tries to fool folks with a grin. I gotta mole too, in the same place.
gosh...i tell ya...i love nelson. never met him, but from the many vids i've watched(i'm captivated) i can tell he was most genuine upstanding southern gentleman. we need more like him these days....humble n pure heart.
Still here, june 2024
Nelson is legit in the doctors office filming like nothing is off about that
Darling little house!
RIP Nelson~
He seemed like a sweet, genuine guy.
I love how he narrates the entire time he's recording. These videos are treasures. Thankful that his faithful friends are uploading them and allowing us to get a glimpse into his life.
HIPPA violations everywhere 😂😂😂
Mas850 Ikr! 😂
Mas850 HIPAA was not even a thing in 1989....now I feel old.
HIPAA was not a law back then
7:30 those puppy dog eyes that say everything
Nelson was the living embodiment of Huckleberry hound. Just a sweet southern fellow going about the day to day.
Lmfao!! Oh yes that's an improvement!!!!
What was the whole purpose of removing the mole ? It gave him character ,it looked good on him ,kinda like Robert Deniro
They sent it to the lab for testing. Probably cancer.
Probably recommended by his doctor. Doctors can tell what moles are cancerous. Notice they took the mole and skin around it to send to the lab to be tested
He still had the 2nd mole right above it. Watch later vids.
Maybe they just took this one to see if it was cancerous or not. Wish he had checked his heart too.
I miss Nelson and I haven't seen all of his videos yet! There aren't many people like him in today's time.
Such a gem.
God BLESS YOU Nelson!! Such a sweet, Southern Gentleman!!! RIP ❤
Noticed how he mentioned Trump Tower...but no "reeeeeeeee! Orange man bad"? Yeah that's because everyone liked Trump back in the day.
Everybody hated Trump in the 80's too. You're obviously not from New York.
This is the world’s first doctor and clinic review for mole removal. This man was a pioneer and didn’t even know it. I love Nelson.
Nelson was truly a pioneer
Probably did know it actually.
a southern gentleman
Watching this, i wonder if he missed Kershaw, perhaps more than he admitted to himself. But it was a Bronski Beat situation for a gay man born in small-town American in the '40s, no matter how fond of home he might have been....
Wow wow wow gay man??
@Slava Gorbunov what do you mean?
@Slava Gorbunov i didnt think he was at all until this one lol
@Slava Gorbunov Albert Fish is a troll and homophobe. He makes homophobic comments on every video. He's obsessed with Aids and that every gay person has it.
I'm sorry, but I personally don't care for others views or opinions on Nelson...
I like to keep him in one special spot❤
For anyone wondering the doctor with to almost 100 years old, and just passed away two years ago.
For carrying such a big camera, he has amazing control and angles. His arm literally never moves.
I love the music in the dentists office.Perfect mole removal music
Those easy listening stations... like KWXY in Palm Springs or WLYF in Miami
1:50 Awww, I don't know this man at all but I know he's good people 😌💙
Nelson is so cute and funny. He seems like he was the sweetest soul who wouldn't ever hurt a fly.
Wish he had seen a physician for a physical and EKG at that time.... but we never think something fatal could happen any moment. Such a loss but grateful for these recorded capsules of time
I love that muzak version of Guilty.
"oh yes that's an improvement" lmao his sarcasm is great
Love this video pre-Hyppa doctors just leaving their files on the counter for anybody to see
It's so crazy how this style of filming makes it seem so familiar and recent. You forget how old this content is
First video I saw of these, have to say I was somewhat scared by Nelson, I find myself addicted to watching them now.
I think his voice can be off-putting, and he seldom smiles. Doesn't reflect his true warmth, which has become apparent to me as i have, like you, become drawn in! Think I'm in for the full ride now: 1900 hours or more of footage!
I couldn't have said it better myself.
A Nelson Sullivan Biopic should be on the cards. Who do you think would be able to play the part of Nelson Superbly?
This is Lovely - the guy is so natural. I dread to think how long it took him to make one video and edit etc. Do you think the beastie boys saw his videos, i see a lot of similarities with the fisheye lens etc.
Think they mention that in there 2nd book
I wonder how small Kershaw was back then. Today it only has over 2,000 people.
+Begley's Shizzle. very well said, thanks for your comment and reflection on who Nelson was. Yes indeed the first vloger. Especially I like when you said, Nelson looked for the beauty and romance. Very poetic!
So happy I found Nelson's videos.I have enjoyed every video he has made, and I just feel like he is still with us all, uncanny I know. He had a certain way about him that is so easy to like. I love his dry wit and personality. Thanks for these great videos and thanks for letting me meet such a great and talented person.
2:11 What is floating in the air behind him? I can't make it out.
Es sieht sehr unheimlich aus.
It’s a traffic light 🚥
@@Antny.25 It totally is! Thanks, I don't know why I didn't see that before.
First time I have seen him so happy. At home. That's nice. 😢☺ He was so observant.
he seems so happy.
"Yes! Yes! That's an improvement!" LMAO
Back then people knows their neighbors well, nowdays I don't think people knows their neighbors as well as back then, including myself.
Videoblog in the 80´s... Am living for it!!!
He is such a sweet kind soul I'm sure he has missed by many
I sure enjoy watching the videos of nelson. Takes me back in time. Keep them coming.
When he said about the San Francisco mist, it brought me back to my sister's wedding in Monterey going back almost a decade ago. Nelson was all about going back in time🖤
Mama says "... Bless him, Nelson was so cute!
11:16
Crossing diagonally across an intersection....def a NY'er lol
Or it was a small town and as he mentioned, no traffic.
Something neat to see on Google maps, I just searched for John Brewer M.D. Dermatology in Kershaw, SC to see how much it has changed and It looks different, same houses and all but definitely noticeable how different it looks
he talked about the Trump Tower in New York
I lived right below Kershaw in Lee county/ Bishopville, South Carolina
I only discoverd this guy recently.... love him ....this guy was decades ahead of his time....such mundane footage but very invaluable and riveting
