Kassad is such a badass, Brawne too. I love how the stories incrementally provide a fuller view of the world but there is still always a lot unknown. I read Hyperion and the fall of Hyperion in the 90s I really liked them but for no reason I can think of I never read it again or got other Dan Simmons books... Until last year when I acquired Endymion and the rise of Endymion. I re-read the 2 Hyperion books two weeks ago, finished Endymion this week and now I am going through the rise of Endymion.
Yeah Hyperion is so good my advice is to couple it with the fall of Hyperion read both they are very different parts of the same story. The Endymion story is different mostly 1 journey and chase so much simpler than mixing 6 different stories. The rise of Endymion starts literally few miles from where I live so that's fun but I won't spoil it.

However, I would highly recommend stopping there. Book 3, Endymion, is different than the first two books and is a huge step down in quality, and the last one is not good at all. @@GentleGiantJason he said (if you didn’t listen) at his first read) he expected some scifi about a creature and it’s not necessarily about that especially not in the first book when the author has the same amount of pages ahead to tell what’s going on at the end of the pilgrim.
All the 7 has a story to tell. All have a reason to meet the monster. The monster will grant one wish and one only.
