after isolating the single spores under the scope they can be paired intentionally by putting a subculture of 2 colonies in one plate. some place multiple in the same plate because there is about 50% compatibility
Thanks! I generally don't use gloves because disposable gloves turn into trash and i think generally they offer a false sense of cleanliness. If I were harvesting product for sale I would definitely use gloves just to be above reproach on the cleanliness. as far as the lab work, if the results come out clean the technique is good. if not, change the technique.
@@mushroomcult I feel the same way. I grow mushrooms, I work in my lab, handle my substrate, and harvest without gloves. It's all in the sterility. I bust my ass sterilizing my home, as well as ensuring I'm showered before handling anything mush related. It'll be different once I set up commercially. In the meantime, the mushrooms don't mind the connectivity.
Dig it,...we're right there with you watching you work..cool af
What do you do with the spores from there? Will you have to use a microscope to do a single spore isolation to find pairings?

I'd love to hear the story of how you became interested in fungi
