This game is pretty ambitious for its time. Free roaming, day and night cycle, varies cambat action with RPG elements. It's not perpect but despite it's many flaws, this literally is an early Yakuza game in 2D. I still prefer the first title that came out on Famicom.
I've been concepting in my head a beatemup RPG, and the only one this old I could find was Dragonview. But it seems there were in fact more devs in 90s Japan who saw the untapped potential of the genre
There's another game on Super Famicom that's fairly similar and plays even more like Yakuza since it's much more story focused called Rokudenashi Blues.
man i love this game so much it's one of the coolest crappy RPGs i've ever seen but what makes me hate it is just the part about the sewers which is a maze that's all
Criminally underrated game! Can't go wrong with Kunio. The quality of these games is top notch. The dialogue and atmosphere make it worthwhile and make it more than just a game. I've got to get a hold of a physical copy.

nostalgia overload. when I played this as a kid it was all in japanese, i had no idea what was going on but i still got completely lost in this world. loved it.
3:04 That's a cool faux parallax effect there on both the floor and the corridor going into the distance. And I expect they could have made the far distance scene move at a different speed to sell the effect even more too. Also, despite claims that the SNES can't show more than 3-4 enemies on-screen in beat 'em ups by quite a few trolls online these days, this SNES fighting game [in two player mode] regularly has two players plus five enemies on-screen at once.
Man, wish I had the translated version twenty years ago. Had to try working my way through the Japanese version. Eventually got through it, but not without a lot of guess work and referring to walkthroughs.
Hopefully Arc System Works or WayForward rerelease it, they already released Shin Nekketsu Kouha Kunio Tachi no Banka last year, so idk why they haven’t bothered with half of Kunio’s backlog
@@turbomario I feel like it shoud be a ASW release in compilation form like the DD & KK: Retro Brawler Bundle. A collection of the SNES and Game Boy games.
Hello friend, I do not know if you still answer, but what time of the game that releases the cutscenes? because I am not able to see them, the NPCS do not appear. Not even the final boss.
Well yes, it's not played in a fast manner. You're supposed to take your time and navigate yourself around Osaka, which is a different terrain given than Tachi No Banka and DNM's setting in Tokyo. I'd recommend this game for anyone familiar of Osaka or an online guide for new players. Plus, Tachi No Banka is very different from this one it's a linear beat-em-up.
hey i am lost with this rom im using a ps4 controller dont know if that matters but whenever i fight sometimes he jumps and i mapped out the controls the way its supposed to be but idk what the deal is does anyone know a fix or is this just the issue with the game
IT's your controller that's crapping out on you, not the game. Pull the controller apart and clean it, that is most likely the cause. That, or debris under the X button. If you are not sure how to take it apart correctly, try using compressed air to blow out under the button and see if that helps.

2:10:03 it would be funny if that punches would result in game over due to Kunio almost-zero health. Izawa, you impatient lad!
with Tachi no Banka getting a western re-release. I keep hope this will too one day.
What would the English title be? I'd say probably "The Original Nekketsu Tough Guy Kunio", since that's what it translates out to.
with how the current kunio games are getting titled, it likely would be called "river city origins 2" @@VahanNisanian

Those are some of the worst fitting suits I've ever seen
Banchos liked their uniforms baggy.
I mean, there's nothing wrong with them. The baggy pants are meant for easier mobility than the standard school kind.
