Dude grew up with dragonball so it doesn’t surprise me. There wasn’t much lore on Bardock before the games anyway so it’s a solid starting point, especially considering most of the fan base will recognize it. Great decision tbh.

hot take: the series would be way more interesting if everyone was around or lower than Namek saga strength (excluding frieza). a fight between a super saiyan and a fight between a fused super saiyan blue fundamentally look the same, but when you're at this kind of lower level the fights can get a lot more scrappy
I prefer this Bardock over the one we got in the special. Growing a conscious after years of conquering worlds vs growing one some time before his death. He might not have enjoyed killing, but he certainly enjoyed fighting and pushing his limits just like Goku.

It explains why Goku has a kind nature to him because Gine's kindness rubbed on to his father. This Bardock has way more character than the DBZ one.

Bardock character from both Z and minus is so inspirational. Labeled as a low class warrior but excels with his assignments but also shows why he can be different from the rest of the Saiyans with his humanity. The only Saiyan not to lose his pride when the employment of Freiza basically enslaving his people and rebelled against the tyrant alone. His last effort to save the extinction of his race on taking on the supernova. He’s definitely a true Saiyan.
Imo, when Gas fought Bardock, he was strong but not at his peak. Back then, he was still learning to control his power and didn’t have the full experience he’d gain later on. I’d say he was probably around the level of the Ginyu Force or maybe a bit stronger. He definitely had an edge over Bardock, especially with his weapon abilities, but Bardock’s Saiyan resilience helped him keep up. Gas’s power was solid for that time, but it wasn’t at the monstrous level he’d reach later in the series.
Bardock is badass luv how his fighting style is raw, relentless, and aggressive, no constant spamming of ki blast or a thousand different transformations, just raw hand to hand combat and a badass Oozaru form if needed. By the way am I the only one that enjoys the non super saiyan fights more than the super saiyan ones, luv that it's more melee based in the earlier sagas.
Wouldn't it be cool if when Elec mentioned the hand you show (working for Frieza) what if the hand he doesn't show was none other than Cooler? Maybe King Cold and Frieza were told about the Saiyans from a higher power..... they could potentially introduce Cooler here.
Is this the first canonical appearance of faux super saiyan? Every time it appeared before (in the Lord Slug movie and later in the Pikkon filler in Z) it wasn’t canon. But it’s not confirmed here either, except for the fact that Gas says ‘impossible, you have no ascended forms past Ape’, which indicates Bardock DID achieve something higher. Honestly this would pave the way for Goku’s ascension better than anything.
I have a theory how Bardock won that fight then just power. I think it was the Dragon balls that gave Bardock the edge because when he won he was the reason why Kakarot survived without him it's probably the reason why the Dragon balls gave him a chance against gas.
