Shenzhen, referred to as "Shen", also known as Pengcheng, is a prefecture-level city, a sub-provincial city, a national planned city, and a megacity under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province. It is located in the southern part of Guangdong Province, on the east bank of the Pearl River Estuary, bordering Daya Bay and Dapeng Bay to the east, the Pearl River Estuary and Lingdingyang to the west, and connected to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to the south, and bordering Dongguan City and Huizhou City to the north. As of the end of 2022, the city has 9 districts under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 1,997.47 square kilometers. At the end of 2023, Shenzhen's permanent population was 17.7901 million.
Shenzhen has a history of human activities of 7,000 years and a history of city construction of 1,700 years. It belongs to a comprehensive landform area dominated by hills, low mountains, hills, tablelands, terraces, and plains. It has a subtropical monsoon climate, long summers and short winters, mild climate, sufficient sunshine, and abundant rainfall. Shenzhen's predecessor was Bao'an County. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the main part belonged to Xin'an County of Guangzhou Prefecture. Before the establishment of the city, it belonged to Huiyang District. The name Shenzhen first appeared in historical records in the eighth year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1410). In March 1979, Bao'an County was renamed Shenzhen City, which was under the dual leadership of Guangdong Province and Huiyang District. In November, it was directly under the leadership of Guangdong Province. In August 1980, Shenzhen established the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.
Shenzhen is one of the key hometowns of overseas Chinese in Guangdong Province, one of the important old revolutionary bases, one of the birthplaces of the Dongjiang Column during the Anti-Japanese War, a special economic zone approved by the State Council, a national economic center city and a national innovative city, and one of the core engine cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area; it is a window of China's reform and opening up and an emerging immigrant city, creating the world-renowned "Shenzhen Speed" and is known as the "Silicon Valley of China"; it is also one of the four central cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a national logistics hub, an international comprehensive transportation hub, an international science and technology industry innovation center, and one of the three national financial centers in China, and is fully committed to building a pilot demonstration zone of socialism with Chinese characteristics, a comprehensive national science center and a global ocean center city.
In 2023, Shenzhen's GDP will reach 3,460.64 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.0%.

China is the leader in infra now, I am American and it hurts for me to say we in USA can only dream of our cities getting rebuilt new, fresh, clean, safe and modern like China. I am an urban planning consultant and my company was hired in 1968 by Deng Xiaoping himself to research how China can adopt western urban development and implement it across China.
Deng Xiaoping will be proud to see what his nation is today. This man deserves a lot of praise for his vision and pragmatic implementation. He wanted the average Chinese citizen like a factory worker to afford a motorbike or car, home, tv, refrigerator, AC, education for kids and so on. All those dreams and more are seen here and in everyday life.

Amazing shows how a determined leadership can truly bring change and I really do resent criticism of China. I remember as a child in school we did a poster on China and wrote “we hope you get richer” now I look at this country with absolute respect… far beyond anyone’s imagination 👍

Shenzen is just on another level of public infrastructure no other city can match this. My favourite part of living in shenzen was using it's Rapid Metro System.
The Chinese make their cities so well. Amazing roads, great planning, great landscaping. Truly brilliant.

Lots of BYD electric cars on the roads with the green number plates. Also electric scooters and mopeds all over. Just brilliant to see.

I've been to Shenzhen without knowing what that city would be like, Travelling fm Hongkong, I was of the impression that it would be like a moderate china town like township. But, it took my breath away to see it in real life... It's a dazzling, massive city with never ending skyscrapers and modern thoroughfares to match the best in the western world...!!!

@Hexie even the city requires PCR test for every 48 hours, many workplaces, including mine, still require 24-hour test result.
There's one time, my company noticed me that the test requirement loosened from 48h to 72h next week, but suddenly, it tightened to 24h.
There was a girl that I liked, and she's busy, and I have been waiting for a meal for almost a year, and we planned to meet on a weekend at the beginning of Sept, before I left SZ. However, on Friday, the City decided to close all restraunts, and lock down the city for 2 days. Bloody Hell!!!!!
Now, I have already left SZ, and leaving for the US with immigration visa next week.
I planned to depart from HK. Before departing in HK, I planned to go to SZ first, then cross border to HK for sightseeing and transitting. But my parents does not want me to go to SZ, because of unexpected control measures.

@@中国街景 understood, for what it’s worth, I use Final Cut Pro and the trick is to use the “keying effect”. I’m playing around with it now using Google maps or apple maps but I’m guessing you use a different GPS that’s fitted to your car as the display is quite different and much cooler 👍🏻

@@marcolam1167 深圳城建在武汉面前也就那样，没租界洋楼，面积顶多只有武昌大，没有黄鹤楼这种古迹，也没有东湖这种城中湖，深圳真没啥。而且深圳1990年代靠武汉人财建的。
