that last shot of the timeline going off in the future was just perfect. So simple but so cool and meaningfull.
I don't think I have ever seen a video on domino history like that. It' so relevent ! I have been rewatching old videos lately and seeing the years when they were posted turned at least a few of my hair white. One thing you haven't mentionned is the Structure era. I don't know if it was an era or if it's always been a thing but I feel like at some point there were a lot of "worlds biggest pyramid/cube/etc..." and seeing people build these perfectly symetric structures up to sizes that are hard to manage for a regular sized person devinitly made me excited about that art form (first thing I did when y unboxed my first dominoes was to build a pyramid). Last week I built a tower with all of my black dominoes for some reason and I loved it so much. I was just this perfect balance between relaxing and "mind clearing" but not boring since it takes a bit of focus. Anyway I might reiterate, it was kinda cool.
And your video is really great. I hope you do more domino history video if there are other topics (surely there are ;)
Thanks for reading all this 😂

I love this - as someone who initially got into domino building through these simple trick videos, it was great to see someone put together a collective timeline for everything that's impacted it so far. I think it's true that you kickstarted the whole 'era of intracacy;' Major up and coming builders like Twig & Cabaret, Bpdoles, and Daksdominoes took your blueprint and created the most intricate set ups the community has ever seen. A beginner's ambition was still inside them, but they were all experienced enough to take it to the next level, inspiring many builders like myself. The storytelling era is better in my opinion, but I'll always remember the chaos that was those years that inspired me and so many others.
Please keep doing these - I'd love to see your perspective on other aspects of the community.

Thanks so much, that's really high praise but I don't think these kinds of eras happen without the help of many builders :) And at this point I think the video essays are here to stay!

That was brilliant! I've been wanting a video that explores trends within the community for a while now, you did a great job with this one and I would absolutely love to see more videos going into different aspects of domino building on UA-cam.

Many of those short tricks videos did much better in terms of views than some events with tens or hundreds of thousands of dominoes. I always found that a bit sad but eventually realized how valuable they are in attracting new people to the hobby. It's amazing to see that dominoes have grown from what felt like the tiniest of niches to such a well-known pastime that you don't really need to explain what you mean when you mention it to someone

I made a domino tricks video, 150 domino tricks. And it doesn’t have many views.
But all good things must come to an end sometime. And I could relate to that

150 tricks is a lot, the old community would be proud of you :)

I feel like builders who do those "Domino Rally, Random Dominoes, Satisfying Domino Falldown, etc" is a little well... Sure its good, but overtime, you see a lot of the same type of videos and/or with somewhat little to no creativity.
Now I am not saying that current builders who do the "Domino Rally" video concept are lazy and what not, but I think a different name for that type of series could be a bit better.
I remember going on one oh one's channel when he did his own Domino Rally's and they are what I believe a "Domino Rally" video should be. 1 project in a video, short or big, with risky tricks, structure combinations, a nice color combination for transitions, etc. I would even do the same if I were to do another Domino Rally type video.
This era in the Domino Community with creating a compilation of tricks may be long gone or in a way, not as popular as they used to be, but that doesn't mean that it is always good to go back and see what kinds of tricks to use in much bigger setups like sonimod, slowstones, or any of B 16's tricks.
Overall. This was a good analysis video. Really will look forward to a new video like this. =33

Thanks so much :) Those titles definitely hold a lot of meaning in our community, even if they don't really match the content anymore. Especially nowadays when titles/thumbnails matter so much more. It's also interesting how video formats have been evolving with styles!

I must say that is very accurate. As a person who created a collection of domino tricks, they are not getting enough views.

For us newbies into the domino world - the Domino Trick Compilation videos are a Godsend in seeing and learning the tricks/techniques that are the backbone of domino building - whether the videos are 12 years old or recently posted. From what I have seen over the past few months since I discovered dominoes, new tricks are constantly being invented and seeing them in Domino Trick Compilations makes it much easier to take a closer look, in order to break them down in an attempt to replicate them.
I find the 'Era of Intricacy' and to a certain degree the "Storytelling Era" videos to be intimidating, knowing the ability to build to that level will remain forever out of my reach. While they are entertaining to watch (and I'm sure bring in big view numbers), they do little for the initial development of new builders, which is why I think there is still a place for Domino Trick Compilations (even if they get much fewer views). I certainly hope that @jackofallspades98 goes ahead and posts his "100 Epic Domino Tricks & Techniques" video as planned - I will be watching for it.
Of note, I have recently noticed at trend towards Domino Shorts - many showing just one quick trick and lasting five seconds or less. Not sure if this is a new trend (or whether it is something I have just noticed) and not sure what part this style of video will eventually play in the future of domino videos.

It's nice that many builders can look to domino trick videos that way :) And it took me four years to get my own builds up to the level defined by the era of intricacy, you never know how you'll improve!
