Honestly, I agree entirely with the points made in this video; the secret coins could have been placed much better in Subzero's levels. I had to look that up to know where the secret coins were, which isn't something I would frequently do. I hope these mistakes aren't in the new 2.2 official levels.

I agree with this. When I first played GD Subzero, I was very bad at the game and these coins were a struggle to find and collect. I feel like it wasn't friendly to newer players. Great Video!
I imagine that spinoffs like subzero, meltdown, and world would be a lot of players first experiences with geometry dash, so having these coins be as non accessible as they are is even more infuriating than it would be in the normal game honestly.

I've never really sat down and thought about the secret coins in GD. They've always been something that's there, with little impact on the game for me. Sure you collect them to unlock RobTop demons, but you only need 30 out of the 149 present and you could potentially get all of them from Map Packs if you feel like torturing yourself. My favourite secret coins have always been the ones that require something small to get, like the first coin in Electroman or the second coin in Geometrical. So comparing that type of design to the Sub Zero coins, yeah, they aren't designed the best. What's weird about the coins where you smash yourself into a wall to get them is that they were already done perfectly fine in Meltdown. Viking Arena's second coin is just falling in a particular spot, but it's different in that you have a visual indicator on where you're meant to fall with a slightly transparent platform that juts out of the wall. So why not do that exact same thing in Sub Zero? Ultimately I think Sub Zero was designed with the levels first and then Rob suddenly remembered he had to put in secret coins, so threw them in in like 5 minutes, verified that they worked (somewhat) and then sent the games. It would certainly explain why most of them aren't well designed or why Power Trip's second coin is bugged on iOS. Maybe the game itself was rushed out, to meet an arbitrary deadline set by Rob. That would explain why Power Trip feels so empty and why the coins are like that. I do hope the secret coins in 2.2 are in better spots, but judging by the Sneak Peek we got where there's an unnecessary gravity change portal with no secret coin in sight, I'm not too confident that Rob has actually improved his coin placement. Here's to hoping though. UPDATE: While I think the new coins are better, my issues with Power Trip's first and second coin have changed from "It's just smashing yourself into a wall" to "It feels like you're playing an early 2.0 level with constantly moving platforms and invisible orbs."
@@Tornnnado i got really anoyed playing them because i needed coins for deadlocked and was always a level short where i got stuck on before completing the map pack and hat to pur in hours of attempts... :( (Also im not so good at gd. I need about 1-2k attempts for robtops insane levels)
Ngl I played subzero a few days after it came out and played press start as my first ever gd level. My friend recommended gd subzero as the "best geometry dash" to me. About a week later I found out about the full game and the fact that harder difficulties existed. he doesn't play anymore and My stats have slowly climbed above his. Now I have way better stats and over 10 more demons than him. I looked up to him like he was the best player in the game. I'm hoping one day he cones back.
@@sleepynet13 he's in Europe (I've moved back to the U.S ) and we've just lost touch I still occasionally send him a message on gd just in case. I got a response one time but that was a while ago
The first coin of Nock em already has a strange but tiny indicator, you could see it in the left of the coin wall that it has a shine effect, not all of the walls have it tho.
it does have a shine indicator, but pretty much all the spikes have that same shine effect so that halves the little effectivity this hint ever had in the first place
At the first glance I thought this is just a useless hot take on mere secret coins, but this was so well-explained and actually MAKES SENSE, and the fact that this video also gives tips for the other creators on how to create coin routes at the same time. This video is so based, so is Colon.
A little glitch that i found: When i was collecting the first coin in Press Start i think i did a pixel perfect noclip strat and fell through the ground in the coin area and then crashed behind a tiny spike.
Nock Em 3 DOES have a visual indicator, but you need to be PIXEL HUNTING to see it. There's a very slight loss in glow associated with using fake blocks. That's it. That's the indicator.
wow i actually didn't notice. i just looked and saw that its also VERY slightly darkened where you enter, but its so hard to notice in gameplay so W H A T S T H E P O I N T
"I'm comfortable with ANYTHING so long as it's not hidden behind a wall or something stupid like that" ... "✨" [funni kitsune man rage] 3 minutes later "No. NO. Do NOT tell me you fall through this wall..." [funni kitsune man has BIG rage]
Interesting, I was wondering about this a few days ago when I noticed the amount of coins I had in Subzero, compared to the other GD versions. I clearly remember at some point trying to completely cluelessly find the missing coins in practice mode by crashing against every obstacle I could and just randomly finding coins like that. After a while I just gave up on them x’)
Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way. IMO the last coin in Power Trip is the worst. It's just so cryptic and no other coin works like that at all. I also think the transition before the 2nd Nock 'Em coin makes it especially annoying. Maybe I just suck at it but I feel like it's harder than any of the official coins. I agree that overall SubZero is really good though
6:43 Here's my opinion: The Key has a smaller hitbox than the coin, so, to make it even mote challenging, RobTop took the key... or because you can't access deadlocked without buying the game and he still wanted that to be shown to the world ... well there are many possibilities why that has been done anyways
I think the reason the coins aren't the best in Subzero is that they're not really the point of the game. It was simply to showcase the many features that 2.2 will have to offer.
I think it's a good coin, I even touched on it in the video. (0:31) You're likely going to miss the coin on your first attempt, but even if you miss the coin you can still SEE it hanging up there. So it's pretty easy to conclude that there must be a hidden orb, or at the very least some kind of path. By letting the player know when they've missed the coin, it encourages experimentation and coming up with your own creative ideas. A lot of the coins in SubZero would be okay if the coin was visible, but for some reason Rob decided to keep them hidden until you find them.
I don’t really get why Colon is so cynical about all of this, not on the ranking as I agree with everything, but that he thinks that the placement for secret coins are doomed? Subzero was rushed, 2.2 isn’t (for better or for worst) he’s always put more care into the main levels than he does side game levels
What I interpreted this as was that if RobTop can make coins that bad in Subzero, who knows how bad nowadays creators can make coins, especially with all of the new stuff coming in 2.2
@@samuelding7854 I agree, but user coins in custom levels have always been either they’re too hard to get, too easy to get, or rarely are just the right amount of challenge
I just noticed that the Third coin in Nock Em actually has a little visual giveaway! Before you get reversed the last pillar has 3 little glowing tiles on the ground (you can see them if you stop the video on 7:23), but they disappear after you enter the reversed state! They're also the only tiles to appear there so i guess that helps to notice it? But im not the one to judge if its a good giveaway or not. Anyways, Awesome video Colon, Keep up the good work.
It actually seems like they have taken his advice! During the second coin on press start it’s now visible, and the first coin on Nock em, there’s a red dot on that platform to signify it’s different. That’s all I’ve seen so far
No joke, when I first played Knock Em, I thought that platform hiding the first coin would be a good place to hide a coin, so I jumped into it. That was three only coin on Subzero that I figured out myself lol.
THIS EXPLAINS EVERYTHING!!! Okay so let me explain, I was too confused why I got the second coin in power trip but it doesn’t reward me with the second coin itself and I was **confused screaming** at that point. And yes, I am getting ideas on where to put coins in my future levels. I’ll use advice someone gave to someone else! :D
I remember that the last coin in power trip was painful to find because I reset level every time I didn't find the coin at almost the end of the level in practice mode until I tested to click randomly 💀
I'm making a game (not a geometry dash level), and adding collectibles for rewards from an npc, and this was pretty helpful. So, this is mostly universal for game design.
@@CM.25 no its not, it would look different if it was made with objects, I was wondering if he coded an image paster, so the image is just in your client, sort of like rich level in geometry dash hacker mode, but probably not
I think robtop heard you, in the new "dash" level, the coins have visual hints, however, when making the last coin, he forgot your words, because how should players know that after finishing the first mini-game in the level, they need to spam for the coin to appear, HOW?

I wouldn't call the map packs torture. They were pretty fun, all things considered.

The first coin of Nock em already has a strange but tiny indicator, you could see it in the left of the coin wall that it has a shine effect, not all of the walls have it tho.
The spider coin where you go in the wall also has a tiny indicator

At the first glance I thought this is just a useless hot take on mere secret coins, but this was so well-explained and actually MAKES SENSE, and the fact that this video also gives tips for the other creators on how to create coin routes at the same time. This video is so based, so is Colon.

Nock Em 3 DOES have a visual indicator, but you need to be PIXEL HUNTING to see it. There's a very slight loss in glow associated with using fake blocks. That's it. That's the indicator.

12:30 I feel like it could’ve shown the coin after the presses, then it says “see you at the end” then when you pass the level, it’s at the end

I think the reason the coins aren't the best in Subzero is that they're not really the point of the game. It was simply to showcase the many features that 2.2 will have to offer.
Coins weren’t “really the point of the game” in GD either, they were added after the game already had levels created and was released.
What is the formula for Respiration doing here in the subtitles? 1:20.

3:22 I NEVER KNEW THAT THAT IS SO COOL
the worst coin in all of geometry dash's spinoffs is obviously the last coin in airborne robots though
Agreed
Yes
I think it's a good coin, I even touched on it in the video. (0:31)
You're likely going to miss the coin on your first attempt, but even if you miss the coin you can still SEE it hanging up there.
@@GDColon but if you mess up once you have to wait till the end of the level to try again
I would disagree; there is an indicator of the invisible orb being there, the white circle thing that appears when you can use the invisible jump orb.
But though it's rushed, i'm pretty sure that there's a possibility that RobTop will force you to beat VSC to get a coin in 2.2

7:31 actually this part does have a challenge, idk if it was actually updated as I'm new but this part has a challenge on gd subzero (mobile version)

the coins were pretty bad so Colon made this video, then RobTop (dev of the game) saw this video and he updated the coins to be better
