- South Carolina from 2011-2013 was one of the BEST programs in college football. But recently they fell off under coach Will Muschamp and will Shane Beamer be able to bring them back to their glory days? Today I look back at their magical run and what the future holds.

6:56“The trustees got cocky”
Fun fact: South Carolina is the last SEC east team to defeat Alabama
I was there and I was awesome!
lol
@@volusiasorange I expect nothing less from a Clemson fan. That’s okay though, Bama keeps rolling all over y’all.
@@donnajernigan5821 Really? 44-16
@@volusiasorange Alabama has beat y’all 14 out of 19 times but good for y’all.
I went to the South Carolina Georgia game in 2012. (A lot of my family is from Carolina, so I've always liked them.) And it was unbelievable how energetic the stadium was.
That was such a fun night. Only louder time was the 2010 Alabama game.
@@davidfence6939 I dont know, that Ace Sanders punt return was absolute mayhem!
Did you to the 2012 game vs Florida ?
Because they have hella heart there. You should have went during the ‘14 season. Dawg it was 🔥!!!

"Enough to give you hope, but to let you down when it mattered the most."
Accurate synopsis of Carolina football. - Dead on the money with this statement.
Go Gamecocks.
I feel like you described it perfectly, this program can win it just needs the right coach. In my opinion Shane Beamer is the perfect guy for the job. He loves the program and the fans.
Lies again? Soccer Club
We hired Muschamp, that’s what happened
I never understood why they thought someone that couldn't win at Florida was going to work at sc.
😂💯
@@glasswhisperer I know dude, Florida is a pillar in the SEC. I think I heard somewhere that Georgia caught wind of Kirby Smart taking the SC job and offered him an awesome deal. He's a UG grad so that helped.
That doesn't explain your shocking collapse in Spurrier's last two seasons though. What on earth happened?
@@thunderbird1921 slurrier stopped giving a fuck and just collected the checks
So far this video is againg beautifully
Was not aware that Spurrier was being forced to fire/replace assistants, which was a reason why he left. Another thing that hurt USC is that they probably would've hired Smart had UGA not fired Richt. As a UGA fan, it was documented that the power players wanted smart, and when it came out smart was being interviewed for the USC job, UGA fired Richt. The rest is history.
As someone who was a freshman in 2010 and was at the Alabama game, watching the highlights from those years gives me chills and tons of excitement. I'm very optimistic about coach Beamer, I think the press conference showed how excited he is to try and bring that culture back to Columbia.
Beamer was with Spurrier for 4 years. He reminds me a bit of Bob Stoops with fewer impressive job titles.
@@michaelschaefer1904 So did Dabo....coaches with National Championship trophies often just look to wind down their career. Dabo felt he had something to prove. Dabo has a lot in common with Beamer. Probably the best coaching hire ever for the Gamecocks, as long as they give him enough time to get his recruits in and starting. Often, programs expect instant results these days. Carolina needs a full rebuild though, not just a quarterback or running back. I hope the fans of the Gamecocks have some patience. Year 4 is when big improvements should show...maybe even year 3. I actually want them to be competitive with Clemson. I still want Clemson to win close games against a ranked Gamecock team. Given time, Beamer is the kind of coach that can get them there. It will take time.
The Rise of Chandler Tingle
Nah... at this point it should be The Consistency of Chandler Tingle 😂
Great, informative video!
Very accurate. Also glad you spoke of how we were robbed in NY6 Bowls and 2012 we had the team to win a national championship.
lol no you didn't
@@volusiasorange destroyed Georgia. Georgia almost best Alabama. It’s about matchups.
@@YardratZ Also lost to Florida by 33
@@volusiasorange that’s why i said it’s about matchups. Georgia have a bama a run for its money. But bama would destroy many other teams simply because of personnel matchups
@@YardratZ Not really. It's mostly about talent and coaching. And national title-caliber teams don't get beat by 33
Great video! Well done!
My dad played for SC from 76-79
Sad to see how far they’ve fallen
Not trying to troll you here, but 2011-2013 were the anomaly for Carolina football, not the norm. They haven't really fallen far at all. They've just come back to what they normally have been over the course of 130 years for the most part. Obv going 2-8 this year is worse than normal, but the Muschamp years overall are basically what Carolina has always been other than the one Spurrier run.
Sakerlina sucked back then too, minus 79.....
here is a suffering gamecock fan lol ua-cam.com/users/74calehall
Yea they sucked then too
Yeah they sucked then too
Really good stuff thanks
As a fan and a student who was at USC during the transition from Spurrier to Muchamp I think you hit a lot of good points. One thing I will mention that you didn’t really touch on was the muschamp contract extension. He received the dumbest contract extension after having one 9 win season. After his results at Florida and shaky first year many people thought the contract extension was offered too early. It was the opinion of a lot of people that Will was a placeholder. It was no secret we had our hearts set on Kirby Smart and it didn’t play out for us. So Will was sort of a back up. And the contract extension locked us in on a coach that ended up costing the team a ton of money and the end result was 7 wins, 4 wins, 2 wins and a 13+ million buy out
Great insights
Also when every body was amped up in the stadium you could feel the upper tower seating swaying. It was so wild and crazy feeling.
Nice work!
Damn it was nice seeing the Glory days for a moment even though brief
from a south carolina fan perspective this video hit every note, great video that really explains it all
Keep doing these type of short documentaries
Good job man!
Hopefully we can get back to these days
We got our guy. Culture is what's been lacking over the last 4 years. I saw it back when I was an undergrad between 2010-2014, and we can bring it back. Time for us to have a Renaissance, buy-in, and let's get back to having fun.
Losing is actually a culture, maybe not the one you want buts it’s a culture none the less
Awesome video.
The day we lost Coach Spurrier was the day we sadly fell off & suffered tremendously
As a gamecocks fan this is so accurate and nostalgic made me happy remembering those years hopefully we do better this year
Do a video on the 2014 MSU Bulldogs
Ugh, the early 2010s was a great time to be a Gamecocks fan. It seriously felt like we were so close to finally snagging a championship. Then Spurrier abandoned us (and honestly, I can't blame him for doing it), which lead to the tragic era of Muschamp. As an optimist, I can only hope that Beamer can reignite the fire back into this team.
Don’t you realize he had stopped recruiting in 2011, so when he saw the team collapsing in 2014 and 2015, he knew it was his fault so he left to avoid the humiliation of it all.
If lattimore stayed healthy we could’ve made it fr
South Carolina has one hell of a recruiting tool in Shane Beamer. As a Sooners fan I'm excited for them and him and hope to see them in a NY6 Bowl game someday.
@Phil Ill We'll see I personally think he'll do well but I also just want Shane Beamer to succeed because he's known as one of the genuine good guys in the sport.
@Phil Ill People said the same thing about Dabo. The thing is, I'd rather take a risk on a guy with actual potential compared to the other options there were.
Shane Beamer is not your answer. Hokie here
@@tkkcali your opinion isn't the answer.
@@davidfence6939 neither is your opinion on my opinion
Fantastic video man. As a Carolina fan you hit the nail on the head.
They're coming back. 2023 could be a huge breakout season.
Good content...keep it up!!!
Cole you did a fantastic job with this video. I was at Carolina and in the marching band for the 2008-2011 seasons and while it sucks to see us fall from grace you really summed up the last 10 years pretty damn well. good on ya man.
This is an amazing video. Thanks for the content 🤘🏿🤘🏿
I miss the Steve Spurrier days. SCAR was fun to watch when he was there.
Me too. It still blows my mind that USC would disrespect Spurrier like that. Like you don’t ignore or go behind the back of the Carolina that beat #1 Alabama and scored great recruits like Jadeveon, you listen to him and follow his lead. Crazy how they would do that for muschamp and not Spurrier.
Yea it was fun watching him throw his visor and criticize the team even tho the city prays them for losing
Go 🐅
@@bellzo5 we didn’t do that with Spurrier we did that with Muschamp Bc he sucks and Ray Tanner was a dummy for hiring a guy that was fired or quit 3 or 4 other SEC schools. He was never good news no matter how hard the media tried to make us think differently.
@@bellzo5 also I just what to say that I would do anything to have spurrier back and watch him throw his visor again. At least he would tell us straight when he’s not happy with the outcome and performance of a game. Muschamp would just say “we’ll go watch film and make corrections” and literally see that never happen. Of course you don’t have that to experience that Bc ur a tiger fan who has a loyal coaching staff. Ray Tanner is incapable of finding that for USC and it is a shame. Hope Beamer can really do something good but I do have any high hopes. Hope y’all have a great season though, that loss to Ohio st was tough to watch but y’all still had a good season!
@@savannahking9619 he say the thing ever coach say he was doing that y'all team just suck
it hurts, Im in so much pain.
Man this one hurts. Long story short we replaced Steve Spurrier with Will Muschamp. We went from a Mercedes to a Kia
When Texas A&M blew you guys out at home in 2014, I knew something was seriously wrong with your team. At the time though, I thought you guys were merely having a single down reloading year. Then 2015 happened and everything started blowing apart.
@@thunderbird1921 Honestly I felt Spurrier just coasted those last years thanks to extremely talented recruiting classes.
You went to a Fiat
Maybe, but the Mercedes was worn out and never felt the same about South Carolina. Meanwhile, the Clemson fans watched in horror as the Gamecocks were hiring big name coaches like Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier. At the same time Clemson was hiring washed up coaches sons like Tommy Bowden, and finally some clown nobody ever heard of named Dabo Swinney. I and half the fans were nearly in revolt after they failed to fire him after going 6-7 in his 2nd full year. I wanted everybody at Clemson fired and thought Clemson might never again beat the Gamecocks. Little did I know, Dabo was to become our best coach ever. Clemson had showed me and other fans were idiots. The Gamecocks were hiring past legends that never brought their past glory with them. Clemson was hiring coaches we, nor anyone else ever heard of except Dabo. Eventually his belief, made us fans believe too.
@@sarge1231 Worn out? I don’t recall mentioning Lou Houltz lol... But you see thats the problem with Clemson fans y’all don’t have a humble bone in your bodies. 10 years ago you were where we are. Yet now you’re preaching from your high horse as if y’all are immune to the dark and down times... You know those teams that had double digit wins four straight years and beat y’all five straight years... Those were helmed by a worn out legend? No those were run by a legend who had enough of the infighting with the boosters and trustees over his staff and recruiting. The ACC is a cakewalk try playing a primarily SEC schedule every year and let’s see how you do. Oh and you better hope Venables and Elliott never leave him or you’re gonna have one overpaid, in over his head cheerleader on your hands

Great video man. I’d love to hear some more details regarding the board of trustees and Spurrier, obviously in interviews that is not the reason he gave - nor that he would say that on camera. I was in school there those years and man was it a blast. I clearly didn’t choose SC cause of a football program but what I got was way more than I expected and will always appreciate it.
Great stuff! You should do a downfall of Arkansas football covering how they fell apart after the Bobby Petrino situation up until now. Pretty amazing how we went from being ranked BCS #3 in 2011 to 4-8 the next year and things only got worse after that. Luckily we seem to be improving under Sam Pittman so it would be interesting to see your take on it!
Good stuff. You’re not wrong at all. I hope Shane can do it too
Let’s get a video on Coastal Carolina
Good thing is, I don't think there will be a division between Spurrier and Muschamp era guys anymore cuz Connor Shaw was hired on as QBs coach and Beamer was the one who recruited him, Jadaveon Clowney, Lattimore, Gilmore, etc.
Good video. Hoping for more success for my beloved Gamecocks in the near future.
Great stuff i thought I was the only one who felt the disconnect with the players
Us gator fans warned Scar about muschamp
You really have to do the downfall of Stanford Football. They were one of the best programs in college football from 2010-2016. However, they've really fallen off since Christian McCaffrey left. Basically you really need to do them
Ellis Johnson, we miss him.
Your vids are some of the best about CFB out there🔥
i’m a usc fan and this video was 100 accurate
I feel for the Gamecocks, they've been reduced to a doormat in their own conference and a glorified bye week for Clemson.
Clemson said: "Watch this"
To be fair, Clemson has been unreal the last 5-6 years. Clemson has been a mediocre program for the vast majority of their history. But they’re unbelievable now. Dabo’s Tigers remind me of Bobby Bowden’s Seminole teams from the 1990’s.
thats vandy lmao
@@danielmoore411 mediocre ? Clemson has been above average for most of their history
@King David Smith III I even called the first missed field goal. I said "Don't worry, we can still miss this field goal" not ten seconds before we missed it. FML.
USC fan here. You nailed it. The main issues under the Muschamp administration were lack of player development and toxic culture
Wow! Really well done. Realistic and true, but still hopeful. Terrific balance.
I am a Florida Gator fan. When I heard South Carolina had hired Muschamp I said "omg"
Hey Cole I remember reading that same story about how the decisions makers at USC didn’t like some of the defensive coaches and how they acted that u referenced. I can’t seem to find it on the internet. Do you have the link?
I agree with everything that was said in this video!
how is cole not at 100k yet?
When mentioning the divide between the fan base and the spurrier and Muschamp players u were spot on bro. Muschamp players cared more about themselves then winning and that showed itself when Muschamp was fired. You will never be a successful program when u have guys who care about personal achievements rather than the success of the program itself. Awesome video bro. Definitely subscribing ‼️
Seeing the video of Beamer coming back home, even still, becomes a tear jerker.
All goes back to spurrier jr recruiting, and his dad quitting mid season
Great video! You did an excellent job of explaining the Fanbase in the entire university. One correction though, Williams Braves stadium is actually not in the heart of Columbia, it’s south of downtown. Other than that, A+ performance by you.
i hope we get back to winning soon

TheRapper10000 he’s not the best but he is very solid. State has had multiple 9 win season recently (this year counts for me). 2 years ago was rough but State is ranked almost every year
That bronze gamecock was such a waste of money. They could hired a service to get rid of all the mold in Bates with how much it cost

Do a video on the Arkansas Razorbacks!
During the Garcia, Gilmore, Ingram, Swearinger, Jeffrey, Lattimore and Shaw years, you couldn't pay any Clemson fans to discuss Carolina Gamecock Football.
Since 2014 they bring us up almost any chance. As a child and teen in the 80 and 90s they were more like pre-2015. It's why I give then the hard time they deserve. They're mostly fairweather fans.
The thing that sucks the most is how everything went downhill in such a short amount of time.
Now we hope that happens to Clemson, like LSU this season
This could almost be a documentary about the Chicken Curse during the Spurrier era.
Glad someone else gets it. We are cursed. Bad Voodoo.... :D
The Chicken Curse is the entire history of USC football. Being that Spurrier couldn’t even defeat it is proof of its existence!
@@edgardeese yup
This aged well
I used to watch them a lot during the Steve Spurrier era with a friend that is a die hard Carolina fan and I tell my friend to this day they should have never lost Spurrier
It was more than him. We lost a lot of people. Losing our strength and conditioning coach was the biggest hitter. Also, I’m pretty sure the only games we lost was when Marcus was hurt
Gamecocks looked like an actual football team this past Saturday, in the opening week where teams struggling like Clemson. Just please keep that same energy all season
The amount of passion Steve spurier showed on the side line was unreal. He took football so seriously and it showed with everything he did.
Can you do the rise of Florida football please?
i like how you casually mentioned Lincoln Riley was a candidate for the job. I think he would've really given USC a great chance at competing with Clemson, bama, Florida, and everyone else in the SEC.
I am a USC (yes we were USC before California was a state) grad but I was a fan long before I went to college there. I was raised in Cola and went to my first game against Wake Forest in the late 60's.
Joe Morrison was the most well known coach we ever had before Holtz and then Spurrier. We have a great fanbase and they love their football. Hiring a new coach is always kind of a crapshoot. Who in the world woulda guessed Dabo was a good choice to replace Bowden. Not me. A WR coach who had never been a head coach before. His first few years were nothing special, but they stuck with him, I assume because he was building a solid culture from the inside out and building his recruiting. Beamer is known to be an excellent recruiter. His dad built a fantastic culture at Va Tech, so he has seen that kind of program built from within. I think he is worth the chance and it doesn't hurt that he just came from Oklahoma where they know a little something about winning culture. I am behind Shane Beamer 100% give him a chance to put together a staff and see if that winning culture can be built.
Beamer is going to build something we'll be back to winning soon enough.
They will at least be competitive again
I hope, hokie alum here so new SC fan.
As a Gamecock fan I'm cautiously optimistic about him. I was a student at Carolina during the Spurrier era and it was glorious beating that team from the upstate five years in a row. Hopefully I can be a proud fan again and not constantly saying "at least we have baseball.."
