She's got the most incredible voice. Also... notice how she shifts between being this shy adorable flirty thing to this insane musical presence? The second she stops singing she withdraws into herself, its so strange. Shes got crazy confidence when she sings!
She’s way more confident and she’s in her element when she’s singing. When she’s just talking she’s not able to be herself the way she can singing. It’s a beautiful thing actually.
Unfortunately talent and popularity ain't always synonymous, in fact most talent goes to waste because most people doesn't know how to appreciate the unique qualities these talents bring to the table. And, unique doesn't necessarily sell. Formulaic above-averageness does.
when artists lose themselves in what they are doing is what I live for really. She's so into her medium nothing around her exists anymore. really admire the fact that she can just focus her whole being on her music during her performances.
🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯💯 You just defined the I don't know if it's definitive quality or ability but it's definitely the final piece that every artist yearns for because some of us can't get out of our own way to let our medium take over whatever it might be.
+utuberine dude nah, I just prefer her live sessions. I find they have a lot more feeling to them. like studio is cool but her live versions are parties Nd you're feeling that party/irie vibe, I love it. I'm usually there shoulder shuffling and head bobbing.
Yeah, her live stuff is much better because you realize how talented she is. The harmonies are amazing, and it's refreshing to see someone able to do those vocals live.
Her movements aren't based on the lyrics. She moves and gestores as the effect she wants her voice to have. Listen to the efect in her voice and watch its relation to the movement of her hands.
Damn she's got to be fun and challenging to work with. If you listen to 4 different recordings of the same Kimbra song they all have the same core, but the final production may as well be a whole different song.
+Terence Clark Yeah, it's what makes her so amazing. True jazz improvisation. I would love to see her tackle some old jazz classics and rip them a new one. She's one of the greatest singers in the world right now, I feel.
I'm just amazed by how she can come up with all those cool harmonies and sounds on the spot. In my opinion her live performances show her true talent because i think she puts more of herself into the live versions
I love that she isn't afraid to contort her face in a kind of ugly way, so she gets the right sound out. Love this woman. She needs to make more music as I have listened it all to death!
I think this video is phenomenal, I appreciate her vibrato and tone, (especially her palette placement to achieve such a unique sound). The ingenuity of the tech used to produce the loops add a fresh and unique take from a vocal perspective. Definitely one of my Favorite interview performances
"Here to kill your vibe and destroy all the emotions and awe you find yourself in, prototypical radio guyyy, sounding bored and tired. You just heard Kimbra, have a fuckin' day"
I love how she puts her all into everything she does! the way she performed this, not holding back at all, you can tell she's completely comfortable with herself and that's how you make the best music ❤ she's not self conscious about what people may think about her music or her style, she just does what makes her happy, that's why she's so amazing in my opinion
I could imagine Beethoven living in todays times enjoying himself his daily dose Kimbra. As he sits at his computer, also occasionally looking out his window, taking in the morning sun. He will then sip some tea, with a little bit of alcohol mixed in. As he adjusts his hearing aid, he will think of what groceries he will be needing to purchase.
I thought he was an asshole too. Was all that describing "...doing live looping of her voice." It was so unnecessary and irritating. If you don't wanna complement, just keep your pie hole shut and announce the next act. Douche!
Nah, that's just John Schaefer and his show SoundCheck. The video also was cut off. He's pretty knowledgeable and generally interested, I don't think he was being flippant.
Favorite performance of this song, she's got one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. Lucky enough to see her live and she was phenomenal! I keep coming back to this video and I know I'll keep coming back for years to come. Much love.
This is probably my favorite performance of "Settle Down" still, and i've never understood how that guy had just such a lackluster reaction to what an amazing thing she just did. I don't know him but his outro was just so blasé, he threw a wet towel over everything. She just made magic and that's all he says?
let me know if you can't access those links, because they are not showing a ready video pop-up for me unless i link to them and allow it to play... IDK why.
This woman is AWESOME and hardly anyone knows her. Now some kid named Billie has a couple of Grammys. I hate the way the industry works. Go ahead, call me Nebraska Jones!
wish she remains who she is forever, never affected by the mainstream, never forced to change her music style, and more and more get to know, get to love her.
She is so amazing! She should be so much more popular & well known! Her sound is so unique, maybe that's why they do a poor job of marketing her as an artist!
Listened to Kimbra on WNYC when this first came out and also led me to Kat Edmonson then a rabbit hole of different musicians (mostly singing) and styles. Also, appreciate the style of the artists that were on as they let me know I can do my own thing and keep moving on without getting stuck. Lost track of Kimbra and others as I went on with my life but always remembered the WNYC performances --- thank you WNYC for that. Going to have to reaquaint myself with those artists I listened to and find a rabbit hole again to see what is being done with music again. Music like a few other things that are shared in people's lives is a way to cross boundaries and find a thread of commonality that can pull people together.
I am still staring at the screen!!!!!!!!! I can't stop idolizing this woman as the most awesome performer i have heard in years...maybe ever!! One day....maybe one day...i can meet her and let her pick apart my cover of settle down! YOU ROCK KIMBRA!!!!!!
Ok, so why am I 30 years old and now finding out about this amazing talented artist with so much originality??! We need to share these videos.. SHARE SHARE
Glorious. I just love it when artists get into their weird groove from feeling the music and creativity flowing around them and they couldn't care less what they look like. They let it all go and put their all into. That is beauty.. that is music. And Kimbras vibe and groove are just freaking amazing. I will always love her. So much talent.
Love the beautiful talent of Kimbra. She blows my mind everytime I see Kimbra live. She is the master of talent and expression. Let’s enjoy her amazing ability to make music, with the flare of rhythm and soul and pop music! Love you Kimbra!!!
Her musical instinct is otherworldly.
No it's not. It's probably far above averaage but not O...
Jolly Jokress oh shut the fuck up and let him have his opinion
Dashia Ventura you're funny
Kimbra restores my faith in humanity and I won't let any cynical a-hole take that away from me. Try as you may.
Getting close 😊
She's got the most incredible voice. Also... notice how she shifts between being this shy adorable flirty thing to this insane musical presence? The second she stops singing she withdraws into herself, its so strange. Shes got crazy confidence when she sings!
Inbar Aberman yeah I agree! Seems like 81 other people do as well lol
She’s way more confident and she’s in her element when she’s singing. When she’s just talking she’s not able to be herself the way she can singing. It’s a beautiful thing actually.
A lot of singers are like that. I mean real talented singers as it were.
If you looked like that you'd have crazy confidence to ☮️ she is one major talent and way under appreciated or recognized ☯️
This is sooooo me
I still question why kimbra is so underrated!
because actual talent endangers the rest of famous "artists" we have now a days that don't have nearly as much talent
because of people like you who love american idol
Unfortunately talent and popularity ain't always synonymous, in fact most talent goes to waste because most people doesn't know how to appreciate the unique qualities these talents bring to the table.
And, unique doesn't necessarily sell.
Formulaic above-averageness does.
Because they tried to make her do stuff that is way more pop and mainstream sounding
invisibles I just heard this song yesterday and have listened to almost every album
when artists lose themselves in what they are doing is what I live for really.
I actually enjoy this version more than the studio version
Skynyrd158 girllll/boyyyy, i was just telling myself that half her live shows sound better than the studio versions.
+Yuuki Sora does your stereo suck?
+utuberine dude nah, I just prefer her live sessions. I find they have a lot more feeling to them. like studio is cool but her live versions are parties Nd you're feeling that party/irie vibe, I love it. I'm usually there shoulder shuffling and head bobbing.
Yeah, her live stuff is much better because you realize how talented she is. The harmonies are amazing, and it's refreshing to see someone able to do those vocals live.
Her live renditions of songs are usually more Jazz and RnB oriented and showcase her natural voice without a whole lot of effects
so much swag. i can't.
Hi Chesca!
Hey EbonyTweedly !!
chescaleigh Fancy seeing one of my favourite youtubers commenting on a video of one of my favourite singers!
I absolutely adore Kimbra
chescaleigh chesca
kimbra and the band....... she IS the band! lol
+Ebizzill Correct....oh, apart from the guy on the guitar.......and the keyboard..........and the mixer. Apart from that true :P
LOL
she has to give her helpers at least some credit. ^^
Ebizzill probably because she’s not part of the Hollyweird club and I shalt not elaborate
um no. also there is her supporting players who rehearsed with her I'm sure and worked tirelessly.
Her movements aren't based on the lyrics. She moves and gestores as the effect she wants her voice to have. Listen to the efect in her voice and watch its relation to the movement of her hands.
Arel Enoc i believe you
Arel Enoc cool story bro.
She said it herself, she sees her voice as an instrument
Almost like she is conducting her own voice
dunken27 pretty much
That look in the beginning.. she knows she's about to crush our souls with her limitless musical might.
This is amazing. She killed this!!
I've been listening to this all day.
+Maya Beans me too :)
+Maya Beans I love how she completely remixes her own material. it's meta art!
I love that she isn't afraid to contort her face in a kind of ugly way, so she gets the right sound out. Love this woman. She needs to make more music as I have listened it all to death!
HOW DOES SHE EVEN DO THAT!? This is amazing, my mind is blown!!
+BruceNJeffAreMyFlies She's adding samples to that effects box on the mic stand.
BruceNJeffAreMyFlies it's called a looper or some shit
I think this video is phenomenal, I appreciate her vibrato and tone, (especially her palette placement to achieve such a unique sound). The ingenuity of the tech used to produce the loops add a fresh and unique take from a vocal perspective. Definitely one of my Favorite interview performances
All these years later and I still come back. Absolute banger
"Here to kill your vibe and destroy all the emotions and awe you find yourself in, prototypical radio guyyy, sounding bored and tired. You just heard Kimbra, have a fuckin' day"
"Have a fuckin' day" Hahaha, I dont think I could have portrayed his apathy any better
Her music, her voice, her hand movements are too much too handle, I LOVE IT.
so curious what her enviroment and friends were like growing up. what made this wonderful speci-woman
come too kiwi land and find out its intense at times..
She. Is. Sick. The Gotye song does not do her talent justice.
I keep coming back to this live version year after year. 11 years flies by!
I love how she puts her all into everything she does! the way she performed this, not holding back at all, you can tell she's completely comfortable with herself and that's how you make the best music ❤ she's not self conscious about what people may think about her music or her style, she just does what makes her happy, that's why she's so amazing in my opinion
why is the host not more excited about the performance? it was amazing
D.V. A. M.
Its like she's from the fifties or something.its kinda refreshing but odd? Im obsessed with this song though, love her
for sure, she's the rebirth of jazz with some new age love.. Obsession.
Interesting interpretation.
she's so amazing there aren't words. what a talent. 2021 needs her
She gives every song full commitment. A consummate artist.
KILLIN IT! I love hows there're multiple versions of this song! Each unique and different!
I could imagine Beethoven living in todays times enjoying himself his daily dose Kimbra. As he sits at his computer, also occasionally looking out his window, taking in the morning sun. He will then sip some tea, with a little bit of alcohol mixed in. As he adjusts his hearing aid, he will think of what groceries he will be needing to purchase.
lol
Wow, just.....wow ! What a talent.
Very, very , very talented. Not to many artist now a days can loop their own voices as she can. Very well done. Thumbs up.
I always come back to watch whenever I need some inspiration. She is so brilliant!
This is what Fergie thought she was gonna sound like singing the national anthem......
i hate how the radio guy doesn't at all praise her at all in the end, just brushes her off the air
Maybe he didnt like that style of music. Heck I didnt know I did until I saw this
I thought he was an asshole too.
He s a moron
@@seanwalls1358 That doesn't mean he is not a moron.
I want Kimbra to cover one of Amy Winehouse's songs.
I think exactly the same thing. I don't know why she reminds me to Amy
I agree.
+
The thumbnail is fucking hilarious
Ciel thinks so too
Alois Trancy lmfao
I thought the same; and scrolled through the comments to see if someone was like me xD
Favorite performance of this song, she's got one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. Lucky enough to see her live and she was phenomenal! I keep coming back to this video and I know I'll keep coming back for years to come. Much love.
She’s outstanding ! A true musician from my hometown htown
Agree. She is just everything.. Cute, sing well, and has style.
I watch all of these videos multiple times a week and I still cannot get over how perfect she is.
Haven’t watched this in a minute. Still amazed by the process. What a phenomenal woman.
This is probably my favorite performance of "Settle Down" still, and i've never understood how that guy had just such a lackluster reaction to what an amazing thing she just did. I don't know him but his outro was just so blasé, he threw a wet towel over everything. She just made magic and that's all he says?
I think the name "Nebraska Jones" is BRILLIANT. Bravo Miss Kimbra.
+Prometheus1st BTW...you guys know there is a FAR superior version of this song by her right? if you ask me to post it, I will try to.
+Prometheus1st BETTER than this... really?
+Prometheus1st post it pleeeeease
let me know if you can't access those links, because they are not showing a ready video pop-up for me unless i link to them and allow it to play... IDK why.
can't see any links :(
Watching her become so completely immersed in her performance is such an inspiration, and I don't even create music. Fucking love her. She's my queen.
she's so fascinating to watch in her own creative element
i love how this whole time its just her jammin out by herself. she's original.
Kimbra is just amazing. I haven't seen this in forever. This brings up such good memories, and her singing is phenomenal ! Absolutely beautiful !
Anyone alive? Still coming back to this master piece
Kimbra does conjure notes whenever she does it live. Just so enchanting! 🔥
I've never seen anyone so 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙣 by their music
this version is better than the original, i love it!!! ❤
Yes
I've been a fan of Kimbra since the start, I don't know how I just came across this video just now.
so much talent in this woman. i love kimbra
I think that was the most beautiful and alternative version of the song!!! Kimbra! You have a very beautiful voice!1 Keep going!!!
I love how at 4:39 she grabs the edge of her skirt because she's so deep into singing the song and she's feeling it! Fantastic artist!
Kimbra is Beautiful!
❤
This woman is AWESOME and hardly anyone knows her. Now some kid named Billie has a couple of Grammys. I hate the way the industry works.
Go ahead, call me Nebraska Jones!
Best version of this song. Love the sampling.
wish she remains who she is forever,
never affected by the mainstream,
never forced to change her music style,
and more and more get to know, get to love her.
THAT GUYS ERASER HAIR. HOLY SHIT.
MehsterChief
Haha! So funny! 😝😩😭😭
She's so passionate in her music ❤
I stan the way she lets her live performance sound different and explore sounds to make the song 😩👏🏽
I love how when she's done she acts like the performance didn't even happen. :)
Love the raw and totally committed approach to this performance…wonderfully creative
I wish she would record the whole album like this. SO, SO good and much better than full studio arrangement.
How was he able to come in so easily after her performance hahah, I would have been so blown away + speechless
Oh my gosh she's so rad I love it. The ending was awesome.
Been in ❤ for 11 years 😊 "KIMBRA"
I have listened to this atleast 100 times.
dude, the radio dude just witnessed a fucking GEM and that was his energy. Good lawd
so dry i know😂😂
Kim is one hit away from stardom. But then, arent we all?
That was deep. 🍃
That was fucking deep.
+utuberine i dont get it
+Carbink Cutie!!! you must have a shallow outlook on the thing.
Not really no.
first song i heard by her. such an amazing performance. :))
same here :)
omg. she performs with her soul!!!!!!
I love how passionate she is when she's singing ♥
WHY IS SHE SO GOOD OMG
I LOVE that it sounds nothing like the videoclip. That's her main virtue, her performances of a given song are VERY different from one another.
She is so amazing! She should be so much more popular & well known! Her sound is so unique, maybe that's why they do a poor job of marketing her as an artist!
He said "Kimbra and the band" but it's just her. That's how amazing she is.
Her singing style is insane
Listened to Kimbra on WNYC when this first came out and also led me to Kat Edmonson then a rabbit hole of different musicians (mostly singing) and styles. Also, appreciate the style of the artists that were on as they let me know I can do my own thing and keep moving on without getting stuck.

Music like a few other things that are shared in people's lives is a way to cross boundaries and find a thread of commonality that can pull people together.
Interesting.
4:09 Automatically favorited this once the song hit this point. Insane.
3:49 and on makes me want to walk down the street with a strut.
Ok, so why am I 30 years old and now finding out about this amazing talented artist with so much originality??! We need to share these videos.. SHARE SHARE
i love it when she uses that device!
Glorious. I just love it when artists get into their weird groove from feeling the music and creativity flowing around them and they couldn't care less what they look like. looove her style
Love the beautiful talent of Kimbra. She blows my mind everytime I see Kimbra live. She is the master of talent and expression. Let’s enjoy her amazing ability to make music, with the flare of rhythm and soul and pop music! Love you Kimbra!!!
She is amazing! & of course the band
Just remember: The music could not exist without the "performance eccentricities." That is Kimbra.
I love watching this video again and again
Her authenticity is just WHOA! Love her so much.
That. Was. Fucking. Awesome.
Wow, Kimbra rocking out 👏👏👏👏
I prefer this version of Settle Down
I love it when she throws in a "yep", she's so great!!
Please collaborate with Erykah Badu
OMG I saw it 11 years ago but just now I’m ready for this naturall, savage performance... WOW!
She's on fucking fire
Hard to find another with such passion! Absolutely intoxicating.
That my friends is talent @ its best!👌👍😢😊
Kimbra is an incredible artist. I discovered her a few years ago and can't stop listening. She does not get enough radio play in US.
