I’ve learned that God continues to work no matter how much we as humans mess up! God continued to use Abraham, Jacob & Joseph to accomplish the plan of salvation, even with their lack of trust & mistakes, ultimately to rescue me, a grievous sinner!Abraham was not perfect, yet his faith & acts of obedience were counted to him as righteousness! Oh how precious & stunning! Praise be to God!

There are so many things to learn from the book of Genesis, but what stood out to me the most is how God always has the big picture-how limited our understanding and vision are, and how vast His plans for us truly are. I saw this especially in the story of Leah. I had always found her story incredibly sad; I remember hearing a sermon where they called her "Leah the ugly," and how complicated her married life was. I used to wonder how she must have felt. But through this study, I realized that while she went through many difficulties, God never forgot her or overlooked her. His plans for her life were so incredible that the Messiah Himself was born from her lineage!!!!
    God is so beautiful.
Excited to continue with Isaiah and Mark. Greetings from South America!

This time around in the book of genesis … seeing that God uses foolish things to fulfill his plans it was encouraging for this season of my life.

We see these people of God and they have flaws. It’s encouraging to know that God understands who we are and doesn’t expect us to be perfect. We just need to love Him and have faith in Him. That’s what I’ve learned. Thanks brother Chad! Love you.

From the very beginning, God's grace was evident. He still uses fallen people.

Actually so many insights. One big one however was thinking about the patreons the forefathers of Israel. Abraham, isaac, and Jacob. Even though Israel revered these men they were so far from perfect. Even some of their past sins were passed down from generation to generation. Not to think of just the negative side but I review my own place as a father and now grandfather. I have to remember how much I influence my family both good and bad. I pray that God breaks the barriers of sin and also uses me to inspire Faith walk Journeys for each of my family members. By the way I so much appreciate these devotion studies

I am especially inspired by Chapter 39, where the Word repeatedly states that the Lord was with Joseph and showed him favor (e.g., even while imprisoned),showing that there was a Divine plan for Joseph (and for each of us).

The mystery of God... how beautiful that God uses our sins, our faults, our frailty - what was intended for evil, God will use for good... the thread of Christ through all Scripture and all time. Amazing Love.

I am SO enjoying the realization that Jesus of the God of the Old Treatment and the New Testanent. The truth that he has been there all along makes my relationship with him more vast. This book is another reminder that when God moves, it most often makes no sense to us.

Two takeaways for me from reading Genesis are a clearer understanding of what a life of faith looks like (Abraham) and your interesting video on the phrase 'gathered to his people'. I loved that explanation! Thanks for the content and God bless you🤗

Genesis becomes more pivotal to me every time I read it. This time the sheer amount of God speaking was one thing that caught my attention. We must remember the revelatory nature of Genesis and indeed all of Holy Scripture. It’s not just information.

While reading Genesis this year, I have come to see more of God’s faithfulness to His promise to Abraham in the blessing of his son, Issac, and Issac blessing Jacob, and Israel blessing his sons. It exposes me to how much God esteems His Word and promise. I also like the Genesis 24 prototype of the father sending his helper to go get a bride for his son, it provides a nice step back to view a larger picture of what the Father is doing today with the Holy Spirit in gathering together a bride for His Son. And lastly it’s always great for me to read the base foundation of justification by faith that Romans and Galatians reiterates.

I have learned that despite my evil surroundings, the good LORD can always make a horrible situation into something that brings joy for generations. Just like Isaac or Joseph, they didnt have it figured out, but they stayed faithful.

So appreciate your commitment to detail and your ability to help us understand confusing stories that point to our Savior and His atoning work. Bought the audio version of "Hitchhiking with Prophets" and it's such a compliment to this reading plan. Thanks so much for all you do........brewing the tea of faith from the leaves of Scripture. Forge on my brother.

Genesis is so packed and amazing! I’m stuck in the very first chapter how the Creator took just one day to create the sky! It’s abundant! ONE day to create the animals! Each so unique and spectacular! I’ve deduced that it had to be HIS timing!! And Adam had every animal brought to him to name …. How exciting and fun that would’ve been! Can you imagine!! Genesis has been entertaining!!

Genesis is the beginning of life and points to Jesus as God’s plan of salvation. Joseph firmly believed that God can use what others intend for evil to accomplish God’s good purposes.

I have read the NT many times. I have heard so many sermons about the NT. I had read Andy Stanley's view that Christians don't need to be tied to the OT anymore. I disagreed with that before, but now I disagree vehemently. I see Jesus now in the OT and understand more how the OT and NT are connected. Thank you.

Joseph shaving and changing his clothes. That was something new and I never thought about the Egyptification of Joseph, really of the Hebrew people as a whole. It highlighted Jeremiah 29:1-11, when God tells the Israelite exiles to build homes and plant gardens and be fruitful and multiply - that is what Joseph and the He tree people did in Egypt. It is what God calls us, as exiles of heaven, to do today. Thank you for your research and videos. They have been very helpful in fleshing out things I may not have thought of or noticed on my own. God bless you.

As someone from a rather difficult family background, I have found the transformation of Jacob to be of comfort. The deception of Esau and his father in order to gain the birthright…..not a shining moment, for sure! But then as time goes on, even thru great sorrow and loss, he continues to grow and in the end is actually blessing Pharoah! Blessing Pharoah is a long way from the sneaky manipulations of his youth!

The connection between Gen 12 and Gen 22. Abraham trusted and obeyed God as we are also called to trust and obey God. This was a beautiful example for us to learn from.

As my wife and I have been following along in the Bible in one year, we noticed something new about Esau, that he despised his birthright. This was really interesting to think about with Heb. 12:15-16 as a cross reference, and reading a commentary on it.
To think that Esau wanted nothing to do with God because he was “unholy” and thus “failed to obtain” grace, totally reframes what I have always heard preached of Esau. Preachers seem to always try to defend scripture when it says, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated,” by saying God just loved Jacob so much more, it was as if Esau was hated. But, it seems that Esau did not want to place his faith in YHWH and simply rejected him, choosing himself to be “hated” by God.
It was interesting to think through the interplay of election and man’s choice, and reading that in Gen. 25 and doing some study really helped me better understand that often-referenced phrase!

Regarding Bible in one year, my comment would be on the book of Romans. The thing I picked up was that when Jesus said he is a stumbling stone. The stumbling stone is salvation by works, and if you’re going to accept Jesus, you have to throw that out the window and just except that Jesus did it for you.

I noticed how with each injustice, God actually sent Joseph closer to his dream. Especially when he was put in prison - it wasn't just any prison, but one for the king's prisoners - closer to palace personnel than before. God sent him, even through the hands of selfish people. And Joseph stood in contrast - he was always serving 😊

But Christ is Risen. This small phrase is to me a reminder that no matter what my circumstances are I can always remember and hold onto that truth. Lust as tightly as Jacob wrestled with the "man" and refused to let go until he received a blessing.
Also that, Jacob went ahead as his family to meet Esau.
So to you I say, "but Christ is risen".

For some reason, I never really paid attention to the fact that the Messiah comes from Leah's line, not Rachel's. I think the whole Joseph story always distracts me from thinking too much about Leah. Watching your video about that section of scripture was an "aha" moment. How beautiful that God used the unloved wife in His perfect love story.

The story is different than how I would write it, even in the beginning God's wisdom is not mine. God chose people that were not good or honest, that did not love their neighbor. So I guess it makes sense that he could choose me.

I am grateful for you pointing out that Joseph's "bad report" of his brothers to his father was actually SLANDER and he had a habit of talking too much. I think I talk too much. When I describe events, people and things to others, I am inclined to embellish or exaggerate the facts. This is obviously lying. I think Joseph will from a " Bible Hero to emulate" category to a more realistic, "wonderful, but flawed human" category. Jesus is the only "Bible Hero to emulate".
