I inherited a late model v6 coupe from my dad....I had it a few years and spent thousands on it....it wasn't very fast for a 200bhp car....it was always going wrong...electrics were just plain awful......I did love it's looks but I think mine was a Friday afternoon car for sure. The engines leak oil as the final insult to all the love you show them.......but, I still find myself looking for one to buy as an almost Ferrari cousin bargain. I hope she loves you more than mine did me.....they are gorgeous cars.
Just the kind of thing I wanted to read before embarking on a restoration job. That said, I'm under no illusion that it will be an easy ride. Hope you get another one someday - and that you have a more enjoyable experience.
@@Petrolblog I'm always looking....v6 for sure. It has the badge, the style and the poise......and if I'm honest I think there was something wrong with mine power wise as it didn't feel anything like 200bhp..... Was flat top end, I never got round to sorting it though as the car unfortunately got written off....but I've seen Autobahn runs of 145plus mph.....I'd aspire for that next time. I had some polybushes fitted and new Bilsteins shocks which tightened the handling nicely....on a fast A road it was a great GT car and nimble too in the Twisties. I think they are worth the effort....I just found that mine kept fighting everything I did and I never got anywhere if that makes sense. I had the dark grey colour. Good luck buddy, I look forward to the progress
i have an idea about the damage on the rear bumper. Some people actually park their car directly against the wall. So they bump into the wall at very low speed. I just wanted to write to you that i myself just bought a 406 coupe v6 automatic to with high mileage but mostly fine. It does have a lot off oil leakage on the cilinder heads primarily but im going to be looking into that in the spring. The ride is amazingly smooth and quiet for me it feels more luxury than sports to be honest. Mine does have a pretty nasty petrol smell on the outside i presume the gasket for the fuel pump has gone bad but will look into that when i get the time. Repairing plastics parts is something you might want to look into as the bumpers are getting rare and expensive. From the looks off it on the internet that process shouldnt be to difficult (welding plastic with basicly an modified electric soldering iron) and paint is available if you look up the name peugeot gave the painting scheme online
Some dodgy maths on Howmanyleft suggests there are 950ish taxed coupes left. Perhaps more than I thought, but I bet those numbers are dropping fast. Nice work.
Like many French cars of the past 20 years, the numbers will drop faster that the depreciation on a Proton Impian. Values are low, which means cars like this one would be stripped for spares and scrapped. 😢
Hey. Just watched both of your Videos on the 406. i Just bought a neglected one myself. Beautiful car. Are there any new Videos coming regarding your 406?
Nice Car, But I cannot help but think that yellow fogs will be the wrong choice for this car, in this case, I think they will break up the lines a bit and not fit with the rest of the car, unlike, say a renault 19 or the Xsara VTS, this car I think suits the standard fogs a bit more
PETROLBLOG my first car was a ZX for 3 years and then I ran a 406 coupe for 10. Love them both. I have just purchased a v6 manual again. Can’t wait to see your videos as mine needs work too.
if you need any mechanical advice i'm happy to give it as i own 2 406 coupes both with the early v6 like yours (ES9J4). Id recommend you do the timing belt, you need the specialist tools to do it which i have. Just PM me.
@@Petrolblog it requires a bit of research if you do it your self, there's a issue with the water pumps you need the right one, cause there is 4 different ones. The timing belt and idler pulleys are the same on the 2 engines(no need to worry about that). The tensioner for the es9j4 is no longer available which is a good thing, since it isn't easy to get the correct tension with out a seem gauge, the tensioner off the later v6 works a treat. I can send you the pdf work shop manual and a link to the special tool need to adjust the camshafts, if you want?
Subscribed for the 406 coupe, hope more videos of it coming soon :)
Thanks for subscribing. Hope to deliver more 406 Coupe content soon.

Love to know what will happen next. Such a nice car.
Apologies for the delay. Progress on the 406 Coupe has been held up by issues with the Clio Baccara (see latest video). But the 406 is next in line.

Congratulations on the purchase.
Since this video was filmed, the front bumper has been removed and is awaiting repair. Fingers crossed.

All being well, yes. Now we're in lockdown. Good luck with yours.

Interesting point. Yellow fogs might interfere with the simplicity and elegance of the front end. Will have to do a test.
Certainly looks much better after a wash! Are you going to fix the bumper or find a second hand one? They seem as rare as hen's teeth!
Hi Adam! Will live with the bumper for a while before spending a few weeks scouring the French countryside for a potential replacement!
@@Petrolblog I think you should try and fix it! That would be great video. :D Best of luck with search though!!!
weird.. mine has some rust too but on totally different places - and those places where yours have rust are 100% clean on mine
The joys of owning a French car!
An MOT Tester will always look more favorably on a clean car!
Maybe the tester will bowled over by her magnificent beauty, too.
Any video on the ZX?
Not yet, but a video could be sorted if you're interested.

Patrick Crean How are you getting on with your project?
new full exhaust from ebay was like 100 euros
Depending on how things go, a stainless steel system might be in order.
Any other video coming up?
Yes - very soon. Sorry, life has got in the way, but 406 Coupe updates will follow.

Great - thank you. You're not the first to recommend a timing belt change, so I'd be mad not to heed the advice. I appreciate the offer of help.
