This is the BEST Gigout Grand Choeur on YT! Great playing and the organ sounds fantastic. Wow!
I have always loved this piece from Gigout, especially the entry. This is also a beautiful sounding organ .The registration compliments the piece. The organist has been gifted with a God- given talent, for the Bible says, "Without Me, you can do nothing. For in Him we move, and have our being." May we always be mindful of this. And then to play this from memory!
In the 1960s, on a newly refurbished Casavant at Grace Chruch, Providence, Fred Cronhimer used to play this piece antiphonally between the chancel organ (2200 pipes) and the gallery organ (4400 pipes). A truly Grand Responsive Chorus. Your playing moved me as did Fred so many years ago when I was a chorister at Grace Church. Simply glorious!
Dear God! You left us much too soon! Why is it that the good die too soon! Your legacy is wrapped up in this wonderful interpretation of this grand composition.

This is really an outstanding version of the Grand Choer Dialogué because of the accuracy and your choice of stops. I watched nearly all of your videos. Most of them over and over again. You really have that 'feeling' real masters need on the organ bench. Go on like this. You will succeed! Best wishes from an envious german colleague... :-)

great piece. This poor guy was only in his mid-20's when he died suddenly. Dunno the cause.
Tim passed away from viral myocarditis. Everyone thought he just had the flu. Tim was home-schooled, self-taught, genius level at everything he tackled, and a man of great faith. Marshall & Ogletree was incredibly blessed to have him on our staff for two years. We are so grateful for these videos we have to remember him by.
@@organpower Wow this young man had incredible talent. This is an amazing recording. Has to be one of all time favorites. I am glad to hear he was a man of faith. This kind of talent can only come from the Lord. Pipe organs and all it's variations now and over the centuries are in their best element when praising and glorifying the Lord Jesus Christ.
I just wonder did Doug Marshall have anything to do with Tim's ORGAN training?
As many of you know, Tim passed away, tragically, on April 9, 2017 of viral myocarditis, at the age of 24. I was privileged to know Tim for a couple of years and we were coworkers building M&O instruments for a year or so. He was almost entirely self-taught. His genius was equally evident whether he was working on the innards of a console or playing the keyboards. Everything you hear here is pure Tim. And didn't he totally NAIL it!
The common thread that influenced Tim's playing and also mine was Virgil Fox recordings. Studying those famous performances from the 1950's and '60's, in particular, shaped things dramatically - no teacher required, just eyes, ears and brain.
One year after having just found out about Tim's passing, I'm pretty upset. Doug, I'm glad he had the chance to work with you and to perform on some of your top tier instruments. It was his preview of heaven!
The organ shown has pipes. M&O builds a virtual organ I believe. Are the pipes used or just left over from the previous instrument?

I don't know him, I am him. :) I missed Riverside though, by a couple months. VF had just left like a month before I started studying with him.

A year after his death, I can finally LISTEN to Tim play, but every time I SEE him playing, so alive, and so young and healthy, with those especially gorgeous hands, I totally fall apart. I can’t even imagine what his family has gone through this past year. Tomorrow, April 9, 2018, will be brutal.

The new digital electronic organs are great when new. But what happens 20 years from now when they start to deteriorate and need parts¿ These are computerized machines. We all know what becomes of computers in even five years. The parts are obsolete or no longer available because they have been replaced by new technology. Who will stand behind these when Maestros Marshall & Ogletree are gone¿ A real pipe organ can last for centuries when taken care of. These new organs will only be around for a few short years and will have to be replaced with something else.THINK before out tear out an old pipe organ. They are worth saving and restoring. Its sad what they did to the old Aeolian Skinner in Trinity Church, Wall street, NYC. It gone now, replaced with one of these M&O machines. Have a care! The end is near!
mudgebauer Trinity Wall street is currently having a Rosales pipe organ built to replace the electric. The electric was just meant as a temporary instrument.
What about all the electronic action computer and other modern technology used in new pipe organs? Most modern pipe organ consoles are fitted with midi technology and computer control of the pistons which can easily be set by the organist. They are no longer powered by human pumps and have electric bellows and such moving parts which wear out with use. Whether it be a pipe organ or digital organ the issue of servicing and maintaining the instrument for the projected life remain the same. A modern digital organ is expected to last 40 - 50 years and a pipe organ about the same until a complete rebuild is necessary. Pipe organs are far more susceptible to damage from natural disaster events such as earthquakes and storms / typhoons especially those that are in older buildings which leak in heavy rain. Capital costs and ongoing servicing is much less with a digital organ which doesn’t require tuning so after 40 years the time for replacement is approaching. These Marshall and Ogeltree instruments are the very top of the line and as a customer I would want guarantees and assurance that adequate provision is available for the projected life of the instrument. It is most critical with overseas customers in smaller countries that they can get their instruments locally serviced and a supply of spare parts is readily available.
Your comments are generally true. Digital organs will need speakers replaced every 20-25 years, Of course, circuit board and computer technology changes AND ages. Companies come and go (maintenance, sales and manufacturing). HOWEVER, pipe organs need constant maintenance (tuning and cleaning mostly). Expensive to build, install and maintain are they by comparison. Even on that point the talent lies choosing proper pipe scales to match the building (most order their pipes from American Organ Supply. Very few build their own pipes anymore...$$. They'll order a rank of pipes with an assumed scale without measuring the volume of the room, its acoustical characteristics, etc.), a master voicer on site (pssst...not all voicers are that good. They have to get in and out to save $$). Good luck with trying to get them scheduled to come back and fix an issue in a timely fashion.
Older organs, most of them, are neglected and not well maintained beyond tuning. The technician sees a problem, reports it to the organist and pastor, suggests a repair cost and it's tabled for a more convenient time, which rarely happens. Let's face it; saving and restoring is preferable IF the parish has the $$ AND they are inclined to listen to a committee or pastor (the organist rarely has an impactful say).
So, to conclude, at $50K per rank for pipes vs $150K - $400K for a complete digital organ, in this economy and the economy of the last 50 years...it is what it is. A smallish 35 rank pipe organ will cost about $1.5 - $1.7 million. Sad, but true.

Stole?! Please be careful how you speak. Tim worked for Marshall & Ogletree until shortly before his tragic passing on April 9, 2017. We are grateful to have known him as a coworker, musician, friend and a man of unshakeable faith. He was a blessing to everyone around him.
