    • @CoolAsFreya
      @CoolAsFreya 7 років тому +140

      iiJohanii what do you mean programming? It's literally just capacitors that charge from the power lines and discharge to the data lines which fries a large amount of motherboards on many devices since the data lines often lack proper safety isolation mechanisms.

    • @johaneuceda
      @johaneuceda 7 років тому +8

      CoolAsFreya what tells the USB to do that then? drivers? no its the programming. you have a point though, that is what happens

    • @Y0urpants

      Daniel Yong That is very common on those kinds of power strips and does not influence it's operation.

    • @ilyaexo2005
      @ilyaexo2005 7 років тому +7

      Some source of electric light pulse when you capture it on video. For example traffic light, luminescent lamp, some TVs. That's ok

    • @fabianfeilcke7220
      @fabianfeilcke7220 7 років тому +6

      That is completely normal for glow-lamps. They always flicker like crazy on camera. They even flicker to the naked eye

    • @unlokia
      @unlokia 7 років тому +17

      This could be one of two things:
      That red light is called a neon lamp - an extremely low current, high impedance indicator which is connected to the mains via a dropper resistor - they often flicker as they are press-fitted into the trailing socket, not soldered (not usually anyway) and the internals of a cheap trailing socket may become tarnished, therefore the press-fit connection of the neon lamp may not make contact so well.
      OR:
      As has also been mentioned, the neon indicator flickers at the same cadence as the cycles of the mains power to which it is connected; in this case, 60Hz. The resultant flicker you see on camera is caused by a phenomenon called "beat" frequency:

    • @abeershahzad8
      @abeershahzad8 7 років тому +4

      I built myself early 2015 a PC which cost me £1500 and its more powerful than a £3000 Alienware PC. This is due to the fact that your paying for the Brand image and customer service. but really no-one has customer service worth enough that you would pay double the price for their product. personal preference really but if you are going to buy something from a branded electronic company then buy it budget and cheap to get the job done. or build it yourself.

      @bryanmiller476 5 років тому +4

      creepy weeb MacBooks aren’t meant for gamers, they are more for professionals who do video, photo or audio editing which doesn’t need a high end gpu but it’s why their cpus are meant for those productivity as well as their usbc ports are all full thunderbolt so they call all support battery charging as well as full 4K monitors in each port, so a two port MacBook can do two 4K monitors and a four port MacBook can do four 4K monitors which is all for that video, photo, audio professionals, not gamers cuz ever the highest end gaming laptops typically only do a single screen at just 1080p for smooth gaming frame rates but require too much electrical power to charge through even a thunderbolt usbc port
      Which is why even the best competitor in the windows market would be the Razer 13 with thunderbolt usbc port for charging but for gaming still requires a sold separate external gpu which of course also needs its own power plug into a wall

    • @bryanmiller476
      @bryanmiller476 5 років тому +1

      A Guy also ability to be portably charged from actual thunderbolt usbc ports which each one also supporting separate 4K or even 5k monitors for productivity for all that extra screen space for video, photo or audio professionals
      Mean while when you look at most windows laptops, the ones with thunderbolt usbc ports are just the gaming ones like my Razer 15 which needs its proprietary 200watt charger and has thunderbolt usbc but can’t supply anything close to that 200 watts to charge
      Or you have lots of windows ultrabooks that like MacBook aren’t meant for gaming except they for some reason typically have normal usbc and not thunderbolt so can’t be charged with proprietary charging cables and ports and can’t do multiple 4K or higher monitors at once
      That’s why bought both my Razer 15 for gaming on the go but typically just from a desk to the bed to couch cuz it nearly always need to be plugged in and uses its massive 200watt charger which is bigger and heavier than my iPhone XS Max lol, and also my 2019 MacBook Pro for real portable and productive ability inside and outside the house with knowing it can charge from a much cheaper and more convenient usbc cable and block and even my battery bank

    You seriously did things wrong when testing the speakers.
    A. You don't put the sound meter right up to the source, it results in a worthless measurement. We measure sound from 1 meter away because it is 1) a simple standard, and 2) is a measurement taken from a reasonable placement of our ears, and gives us a measurement that correlates with what our ears are picking up sound at. Running the test from where I'm sitting, I get 110db on my meter a centimeter from the source, but 85db from where I'm sitting, which is hardly loud enough to warrant placing in earplugs. (You can be exposed to 85db noise for 8 hours and it's deemed safe). Like seriously, do you think that putting your ear right up to the speaker and putting your ear a few feet away is the same volume?
    B. The sound meter you use is A-weighted, it treats frequencies according to how the human ear hears (which is not a flat response), and not the actual amplitude of the wave, so again, we have no clue how loud the speakers really get. You need to test multiple frequencies (music is "good enough" for this) and get a continued measurement if you want a reasonable approximation. Also, if you want to blow speakers you need to give much HIGHER or LOWER frequency sounds, we're talking 10k hz.

      A 3 dB incease is approximately double the energy. A 6 dB is approx. double the amplitude(sound pressure). These are calculated with the decibel scale. The perceived volume is however very subjective and the human hearing is very adaptive to changes in volume, and of course are better at hearing sounds in the midrange wavelength of the wavelengths we can perceive. For a normal hearing person a 10 decibel is usually perceived as double the volume, even though the sound energy is 10 times stronger.

    You do know that in order to preserve the life of the battery, most laptops won't continue to charge a battery at or near 95% until you drain the battery again? This is why none of your laptops were charging, how about you try again at 50%...
    Also, if your charger detects a fault, it too will stop working until you unplug and replug it in again.
    Also, USB-Cs are designed to send power through the lines, every company using USB-Cs on there system knows this, and expects this. Your device will pick the first one it detects power from to use as the charger and ignore the rest.
    This is why you could have your multiple USB-C monitors and your charger hooked up all at once, even though those same monitors are trying to send power to your PC as well...
    Do you not do any research on these things before you try these "tests" of yours? Granted, I know this information from having worked on laptops for years, but I am sure you could do a quick Google search to find out why things happen as they do too...
    Also, you said the USB killer killed one of the Macs, did you confirm this with a reboot and board reset? Not saying it's not possible, it's just that you failed to show this on that last video you did, and with any of the devices you "tested" it on with.

      Code Merk hey mate, u sound pretty smart. Im getting a laptop for school and have many questions. A) does doing this kill the computer? B) Does the usb killer kill it C) should I either get the 2015 mac book pro, 1TB, 2.9 Ghz i7 Quad or 2016 mac book pro 1TB, 2.6 Ghz i7 Quad, Radeon pro 450 2gb..?? It would be great if u could answer all these :)
      Also there is a rumour going around about that when u plug in an adaptor to the thunderbolt 3 in the new mac book, the wifi stops working? Please explain if its true or false. Anyway, thanks!

    • @TheMrlittletooth
      @TheMrlittletooth 7 років тому

      Joel Cormack
      A) You wouldnt have to do this.
      B) Yes but its not something you will have access too unless you buy one, or make one.
      C) I cant recommened either, but if you are willing to spend the money go with a 2016.However I can not really tell what the 2015 specs are necessarily since Apple put that on the whatever page of their website. It seems to have Iris graphics. So since the 2016 does have Radeon graphics. Though it is not a good card for the price, definitely get the 2016. When you get a Mac you arent paying for performance anymore. You are paying for their genius and OS.
      As far as rumors go. If its happening it will be fixed. That is something I can say about apple. Their support is pretty impressive.

      Well, while I agree that I expect Engineers have thought of this, batteries are usually charged at a constant current, not a constant voltage - therefore if the charge current is limited by how much one charger can supply (unlikely, but still), then adding a second charger will make it charge faster. The reason it didn't charge was because you were using the multiple port output and since you were sucking so much energy from only one wall port there wasn't enough energy to power all the adapters and even when you plugged in only one cable you left the adapters plugged in while they still sucked power away. You can see from the flickering of the light from the brick itself and when it doesn't even light up.

      I have the 13" touchbar model and used to connect it to an external monitor and plug it in to charge at the same time, it was fine....
      Plugging it into the monitor alone didn't charge it, i'm not sure where you got that idea from, the power from the monitor is used to produce power for the monitor only.
      Perhaps a specific apple monitor might charge at the same time if it's USB C to USB C but mine was USB C to VGA and I connected my non-apple monitor that way.

      The ditching of the Magsafe was a big dumbass move on Apple's part.. like wtf.. i get they got rid of the glowing apple logo to make a thinner display but the magsafe was Apple's smart as fuck thing on their laptops and they got rid of it.. like seriously they could go ahead and USB-C it all up idc but at least leave Magsafe.. i really wanna upgrade my MacBook but its the only thing holding me back.. i darn tripped on my magsafe adapter so many times i can imagine tripping on the USB-C charge adapter just once on the new MacBook and fucking it up.. and no I'm not getting a third party Magsafe adapter, its just stupid and i would lose it

    Plug multiple devices in the Macbook, like a bunch of iPhones and plug the USB killer in the Macbook. See if it kills the Macbook and the iPhones. It'll be a cool experiment for a video to see if the USB killer kills everything that the Macbook is also plugged into.

    A liitle bit of science here.
    First of all, USB 2.0 port consists of 4 connectors (lines): 2 power lines ("+" and "-" ) and 2 signal lines (which the bits are flowing through).
    USB killer works in 2 steps:
    1) charging internal capacitors up to some high value
    2) after reaching this amount of charge the circut completes to the SIGNAL lines of the USB port, which kills the "brains" of the connected device.
    USB power banks, USB power adapters, etc. has NO signal lines (as well as any brains connected to those). So when beeing connecting to those, USB Killer succesfully charges (that's where sparks come from), but it has no destination to release accumulated energy to. Again, power comes to and from POWER lines, not SIGNAL lines. And USB Killer put high voltage on SIGNAL lines, not POWER lines.
    OK, now moving on to the charging MacBook through every port experiment. One should distinguish Voltage and Current. Power lines of USB ports are connected in parallel, that's why it doesn't matter on how many ports voltage would be applied, it will still be the same (unlike the serial connection where voltage from every source is summed up). That's why connecting those 4 power adapters wasn't any dangerous and couldn't kill the laptop in anyway.
    p.s. Sorry for my English, not my native language...

    Modern devices like MacBook and Surface do not charge when at 97-100% so to not damage the battery by overcharging.

  • @AureliusR
    @AureliusR 7 років тому +14

    What you said around 4:50 shows you have a critical misunderstanding of how power works. "I hope I didn't fry anything with all that current..." Devices act like a specific impedance. Thus they will only draw as much current as that impedance allows. Adding more current capability will NOT "push" more current through the device. Not to mention, of COURSE this wasn't going to fry anything. If you can charge through any port, that means that they are capable of switching any port to the charge circuitry when a voltage is present on the connector. Thus, they either switched all four to the charge circuitry, and each adapter simply provided 1/4 of the current (which would likely be a bad thing without some sort of current sharing resistors) or one was connected and it simply did not even connect the other three to the bus.

    • @CoolAsFreya
      @CoolAsFreya 7 років тому +1

      Peter Griffin pretty sure it won't do much because the data lines in a charger are needed to have a certain voltage first to even tell the charger to provide current through the power lines (it's to tell the charger the max amperage that the device can take) so the capacitors in the USB killer wouldn't even charge in the first place is my prediction.

    • @Almostbakerzero

      inducing voltage into public power grid is illegal in a lot of countrys. doing so may be seen as an attempt to manipulate your electric meter and might cause damage to public power lines that you will be held accountable for.
