This is honestly one of my favorite, if not only favorite scene in the movie. Despite his anger, resistance and "hatred" of Robin, all Will wants is his brother's acknowledgement and love. Once Robin realizes the truth and the error of his ways, not only does he embrace Will physically and emotionally there's a protectiveness that's instant yet natural. I cry every time I watch this moment between them :-)

At such moments, we were all glad that Robin did not remain the jerk he was before the Crusade. I can't even imagine what a nightmare would have happened if he had received such a confession from Will without morality changing.

You're 100% right! Even Marion despised him when he was younger. Yet as an adult he had gone thru a lot during the crusades, and was prisoner for a long time. That kind of changes a person. I'm just glad Will, despite his anger, believed in Robin. And the fact that Robin loved and acknowledged that he had a half brother.

One of the best scenes in the movie. Will is so full of emotions when he tells the truth about Robin and himself. That's why I love Will Scarlett. He may be full of piss and wind, he may hate Robin, but he loves him too in the same time. He wanted to love and be loved, because he was always alone.

@@chrismaccool9097 Well, lack of knowledge does not exempt from responsibility. Besides, judging by his confession to Marion, he kind of realized when he was doing bad things, but in those years he just didn't care.
And to be honest, even after the Crusade, he sometimes behaved like a jerk. For example, he really used the people of the forest under the pretext of fighting tyranny and in fact just covered up his desire for revenge for one particular sheriff.
And also this sad moment when he shot Will's hand when he accused him of this, which Robin did not like because it dropped his authority for self-admiration and revealed the shameful truth. Yes, I kind of know that the main excuse was that Will was going to throw a knife at him, but it always seemed to me in this scene that he was just going to scare Rob and not really kill him. Well, at least it seems that everyone eventually understood this, because if this was a real attempt, it is unlikely that Will would have been allowed to stay in the camp during the next months as though nothing untoward.

For the entire film we see Robin as this almighty hero who could do no wrong, and we see will as the shitty kid that doesn't like him. Here, we see their true colours. The blindness of Robin, and the heartbreak of Will. It's so honest and really shows the true nature of their characters. Great job on Slater's part here. Awesome stuff.

from the short conversation Robin and Marion had on the subject and this conversation between Robin and Will I came to the conclusion, Will's mother must have been pregnant or barely given birth when he gave her up. Robin says for a SHORT time his father found comfort in the arms of another woman, a peasant. suggesting they weren't together very long... and Robin can't remember Will because he probably wasn't born yet when he gave her up. and Robin was 12 when he gave her up. that age gap looks about right for Robin and Will....but from this conversation Will suggests their father did at least know about him saying he loved Robin more than him...I'm sure Will grew up hearing everything from his mother. I bet she was very bitter too. to be a single mom in those days would be so hard and knowing the father of your son was a rich nobleman refusing to acknowledge you and only Will probably listened and believed her. I'm sure nobody believed Lord Locksley was Will's father and considered her to be just a whore & to only be thought of as the son of a peasant wench as little john called him and never recognized as the son of Lord Locksley. To never be loved by his father, I'm glad Robin was able to patch up some of the damage that his spoiled 12 year old self had caused...

I’m certain Will didn’t like that their father was murdered by Nottingham because he was falsely accused of being a heretic.

The revelation that Robin and Will are brothers, the anger in Will's voice as he accuses Robin of driving Will's mother away, the sheer contempt in his scream "YOU RUINED MY LIFE!" and finally all that pain as Will concludes he has more reason to hate Robin after what he'd done yet still pleads for him to stay and finish what he started, Christian Slater did a remarkable job conveying it all.

Will is bitter cause he felt lost and envy that his brother was fortunate and he was poor. They were all poor and to have someone of high praise and nobility gave them some hope. Will wanted to know whether he was going to stay with them during their darkest times if they do lose the war.

Will wasn’t just bitter he was scared of what Robin might do him onice he knew that Will was his illegitimate half brother as sadly in king Richard the lion hearts time and for a long while after his reign. It was common practice among noble families to kill any illegitimate children and often it was the legitimate heirs like Robin who would kill their illegitimate half siblings if they saw them as threat to Fortune and family honour. So Will took a dangerous risk in telling Robin who he is as Robin could have had him killed simply for being born in to the locksley family outside of marriage. Luckily the trauma of fighting in crusades and returning to find that was too late too make amends with his dad taught Robin some hard lessons about himself and forced him to grow up and stop acting like a spoiled brat. Robin’s acceptance of Will is actually not the norm among noble people in the time of King Richard the first. Plus Robin’s friendship Azeem shows how much Robin had matured and changed from the selfish, spoiled little noble boy who bullied his best friends little sister and who’s temper tantrum ruined 4 lives.

Although Christian Slater's delivery is obviously key here, it's important to note the brief shots and reactions of Azeem, and Little John especially, around these two as well. They convey this is not something to be interrupted by anybody: all need to listen here. That whatever this moment will be, it has been building between Robin and Will for a long time, and needs to be respected.
It's subtle, but adds to the dramatic impact of the scene hugely. Especially considering that Little John has been mocking or dismissive of Will before. And Azeem's nobility is also evident on the look on his face, that he must honour this moment.
Whatever you think of this film, this was a terrific scene.

The reaction of the forest people and Azeem is quite justified, because now everyone understands the reason why Will was angry at Robin all this time. This is a deeply personal reason that really has weight, because in those days being a bastard was a stigma, a church sin, and it didn't matter if the child of only peasants and/or notable people. A child out of wedlock is a broken life and nobody have a words to refute it. Especially friar Tuck, who understood exactly how much this is a weighty accusation.

Even though it didn’t follow the mainstream legends, I love this part of the movie! Will has understandable hatred and his confession was emotional.
Robin admitted that before joining the Crusades, he was a jerk. However being part of that war made him realize what piece of crap he was at home, to Marion, his father, and the common people. He acknowledged that in the beginning of the film and wanted to make things right. Finding out Will’s truth made Robin feel even more guilty of his past, that he unknowingly ruined his brother’s life. Both know he can’t change the past, but this moment allowed him and Will the chance to forgive each other, because Robin showed he’s not the same person he was in the past

In the meantime, I remembered something else. William Shakespeare ... Great writer undoubtedly, I sometimes do not understand, though I'm not in his time, but most of the subjects we feel as very close to this day. That's why it is eternal.
But ... Romeo and Juliet, is not Italians? Hamlet also spoke incredible English accent, but on the Danish, Othello, The Merchant of Venice, The Taming of the Shrew, Troilus and Cressida, oh yes they said in perfect English with an unusual accent, because Troy is very close to the England :) Obeisance and admiration to great writer, who in the 16th century understand something that seems to me, we will never.
I see that you write the АЗБУКА :), I recommend movie August of 1996 with a masterful Anthony Hopkins, the actor who can do everything. The film is an adaptation of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya and is perfect, is not important that the language in which the film was made in English. The same depression, the same misfortune of a wasted life, the same sadness torment eternal characters.
A similar impression (speaking of Hopkins) I experienced watching and reading The Remains of the Day (1993), you know that the author is Japanese? Etc etc.

Let’s be honest : Will had every right to hate and blame Robin. Because yes, Robin’s selfishness not only ruined his father’s happiness but also ruined the life of an innocent young boy.
We saw him as the big hero but he definitely had made mistakes in the past.
And what I loved most about Will is that even though he hated Robin, with good reasons, and had every reason to ask for revenge, he surprisingly evolved and was able to slowly cast away his anger and grant Robin not only forgiveness but also belief and brotherly love. Because he was mature enough to see that the Robin he had in front of him was more than the spoiled, selfish, immature lord Robin he always imagined and who had ruined his life out of selfishness

Besides, the English accents that we know today were not what they were during the time period this was set. The upper class in England, around the 1800s, wanted a way to distinguish themselves from the lower class, and started using a soft 'r' as opposed to the harder 'r' we use in America. Over time, it slowly worked its way into common use by everyone there. America has done the same thing. I'm sure if someone looked, it could probably be found in a lot of countries that are concerned with class standing. So if they had used an English accent, it would actually be incorrect.

Robin knew that his father had a mistress, but neither he nor Lord Loxley knew that this mistress could be pregnant. Therefore, when Robin hears this, he may consider it a lie, because you never know who else could have known about his father's affair in the past.
Besides, there could still be guilt involved. After all, if this words were true, he would have to face the fact that he deprived the boy of a normal life. This is clearly seen in his reaction. When Will starts talking about their father and his lover, Robin gets angry and accuses him of lying, trying to subconsciously deny what he heard, but when Will shouted in his heart that his older bro had ruined his life, he retreated, because such personal anger cannot be faked.
