380 is a solid choice, 9 is also. Modern ammo has come also leaps and bounds. I sometimes feel like when 9x19 vs 45acp debate fizzled out, it was replaced by 380acp vs 9x19. I would not volunteer my body to be hit by any round, including 22lr, 22 short, anything lol. Shot placement is always key.

Happy birthday. I recently turned 69, and now carry the M&P .380ez. A 9mm and larger have become too difficult for me to get very many rounds through. And the .380ez is actually easier to rack that first round. I can even fire it pretty well left handed.
About a year ago, a little more, I was in a sporting goods store with a large firearms department, looking at their handguns, nearby, a woman in a wheelchair and her female companion appeared to be shopping for a defensive tool, the salesperson seemed somewhat uninterested in showing them much, barely answering their questions but displaying a couple of 9mms, a Sig, a Smith and Wesson I think, they seemed to struggle with the mechanics of the guns, finally, I engaged them, asked a few questions and pointed them to a relatively (to me) new firearm, the Beretta 3032 Tomcat, yes, .32 is even smaller with less punch, but they immediately saw it as something they could handle, which seemed to them better than a larger caliber that they couldn't

In the 80's I carried a 357 magnum. In the 90's I carried a 40 caliber. In 2000 I switched to 9mm. Now, at the age of 70, my every day carry is a Glock 42 with Trijicon HD XR Night Sights and a 9 round ETS magazine fitted with an XGRIP for a full three-finger grip. I load the magazine with 8 rounds maximum, plus one in the chamber, to ensure 100% reliability. Ammo of choice is Underwood Extreme Penetrator 380+P. This combination has very little recoil, is very controllable and EXTREMELY accurate! I carry it 24/7 in a DeSantis Nemesis Pocket Holster and honestly it's so light and compact that I forget it's there. The best self-defense pistol is the one you never leave home without!
Hickok thanks for the kindness. Personally I think the Sig P365 380 is a perfect match of caliber and pew pew size. Kudos to Sig for it. Springfield needs to catch up, how about a Hellcat or Heckcat like Hickok says in 380acp.
I own a sig p238 for its small size and I usually carry it if I need a pocket pistol or something smaller than my G26 or my S&W 638. great pistol. never had any failures with it. and .380 is probably the smallest caliber I'd carry while in the city
Better? That may be subjective, although ballistic data speaks for itself. But, if that is what you "will" carry and carry daily, then carry that caliber. Protect yourself and your loved ones. Thx. H45.
Started shooting 1911s in 45acp at age 10. My first hand gun was a 44mag. I can't conceal either. Having been a auto mech most of my life and sports, the hands have taken a beating. So I'm one of those guys at 69 who carries an lcp sometimes, and looking to by a Kimber micro 9. Considered a S&W EZ but would rather not have a striker fired pistol. Carry what you can shoot. Carry what you have confidence in and works for you.
I live in Mesa, AZ; we're in tshirts, cargo shorts and flip-flops eight months out of the year. .380 is more than adequate in these conditions, in fact, you need to consider 9x19's penetration in these parts.
I understood that a 380 is a 9MM. In some circles it is called a "Browning 9MM" or "9MM Short." A 9MM bullet paired with a shorter case. In real life I wouldn't want to get shot with either!
We need the legend to the review the legendary HK MK23 - After all these years I don't we have ever seen you with that one. Would love to see your impressions of it

For sure the message is that not everyone has the hand or wrist strength for larger calibers. I have 2 P365’s and Wife has the Rose, we love them, but only have in 9MM. I thought about the 380 for Wife but she seems to be able to handle the 9MM okay, but for starting her out it would have been better I think.
In can't speak for all of them, but the new S&W Bodyguard 2.0 (.380) I bought is really hard to rack. So difficult I'm seriously thinking of trading it in. I've never felt this way about any gun I've owned or shot.
It's absolutely a stiff and tight gun from the factory in all aspects. The magazine is hard to load initially, the thumb safety was hard to toggle and the recoil spring was also very stiff. After putting a few hundred rounds through it, the gun is much much easier to use. It racks smoother and is easier to load. I sat and worked the thumb safety while watching TV like it was a fidget toy and now, it's what I would describe as "perfect". This gun definitely needs a break in period. Put a few hundred rounds through it before you decide anything. A cleaning/lubing cycle really helps too.
Ammo selection, which has come a long way, shot placement, reliability, all are important factors regardless of caliber. Choose the gun and caliber you can shoot well and afford.
With the advances being made in the .380 & 9mm as well as other rounds I could see a .380 Critical Defense round being quite useable but not better than a 9mm with the same type of ammo. JMHO
I consider 9mm to be marginal self defense round even though it was made for war fighting originally body armor and tactics have made these old reliable standard ammunition cartridges less than ideal in some circumstances also firing the 9mm out of a short barrelled semi-auto pistol doesn't get the same ballistics that the older carbines or longer barreled German luger pistols would probably get but against a normal person not high on drugs or wearing body armor then any caliber beats throwing a rock or risking a wrestling match or a fist kerfuffle even .22 LR .
I take the Sig p238 with me on hikes. My liberal friends asked what animal would I kill with that. I tell them it's not for animals, its for people. People get weird when no one is around.

I love your content....always entertaining and always with a social conscience. You are a gentleman.
.380 is more than more than capable enough for out of the house concealed carry. Hell, I'd like to be able to consider .32acp if more new offerings existed in it (or if I can convince myself that a Beretta Tomcat is a good play). I will never consider anything larger than .380 for concealed carry, I want something convenient enough that it always comes with. Subcompact single stack 9s are miserable, no way, and you need small hits more than big misses. I want something that ideally works well for pocket carry, I don't really have an interest in IWB/OWB. When you look at charts that show % incapacitated by caliber for collected shootings, .380, 9mm, .40, .45 all post relatively similar numbers.
Bodyguard 2.0 with the thumb safety is just a dang near perfect pocket pistol IMO. 10+1 or 12+1 in about the same size as a large cellphone that millions of people daily carry without fuss. I routinely forget I'm even carrying mine now unlike my previous compacts where I was always aware of their presence.
@Uhhh. He said “as a backup”. I know LEO’s that do that. My wife loves hers and is much more accurate than when shooting a larger caliber. I’m happy that she will carry it. I think that’s the point of the vlog - all shooters aren’t the same?
I guess a lotta folks don’t remember when .380 ammo was almost impossible to find … it can happen again … guess who controls the production ??? … now you’re thinking 🤔
I’ve been carrying and using .380 walther pp for over 40 years. As a backup and carry. When you’re in an urban area the 9mm has a real problem. Depending upon your ammo used, they will go through your target. I’ve seen 9mm go through 2-3 walls. .380 will not do that even with ball ammo. So if you don’t want to shoot anything but your target. Be aware of your surroundings and the caliber you’re using.
Crazy enough.380 takes less rounds to stop threats compared to a 9mm its like pullng the table cloth from under a dinner table and slowly pulling the table cloth the latter creates a mess the former is so swift all the dinner plates stay in placehope I made snselater.
Hickok45 two questions,1. How come theres no snow out that way, I'm in Arkansas and its 6-7 inches just in central Arkansas? And 2. Can you show us and talk about a Taurus in a 38cal? I've got one a week ago and would like to know a little more on it.
I think people should carry for their surroundings. Example- if you know you are going to be in a crowded event then carry a 380 because over penetration is not much of a concern with correct ammo. Smh...All I ever hear is penetration penetration but no one talks about over penetration. Seems they are ok with not only dropping the bad guy but the mom behind them!
I'm 72 and could loosely be described as "full growed" but in all that me is just a little bit of bad back and arthritus. I've found out an EZ 380 is just about the perfect pistol for me. The eight rounds are more than any revolver I've tried. The round recoils less, there is less noise, the gun is lighter and easier to rack, than even the 9mm EZ. An extra loaded mag weighs less. Less weight, even a few ounces can be felt in my back. And I shoot the 380 better. than anything but a 22. It'll do to ride the river with.
I remember when 9 was a joke as far as caliber until they overcompensated with overpowered loads. Its now loaded to wearing out handguns prematurely to have ballistics of larger calibers. Why not get a larger caliber instead. Like smaller turbocharged motors revved up to equate with larger horsepower motors at lower rpm.
Shot placement is better. Self defense scenarios can be trained for. You can carry 22WMR and be just as effective. I like 380, it’s just something I’d never carry. Unless it’s for better concealment of course. Or something else more practical.

Being a avid hunter ive found out caliber/bullet type/broadhead dont really matter.its more about what you personally are most accurate with and comfortable shooting.
@@shaneshonda You mean the deer don't laugh and run away after you hit them with a smaller caliber? 🤔
@BehindTheDerek 😆 🤣 hasn't happened yet.

Real Hunters hunts with .17 caliber
So animals can live

Thx. H45.

Great points

@maryhumphrey9568 yes.
Hi Tommy are you single
37? It reminded me of Jack Benny when he would always say, he’s 39.😂
I absolutely adored watching Jack Benny when I was a kid. He was 79 years old when he died. So he was 39 for 40 years.
There is also another point. The effective range is shorter with the 380 so proving self defense is easier.
If it's the one your carrying, That's the Ticket!
I Pocket Carry my 380 more often than my others
I understood that a 380 is a 9MM. In some circles it is called a "Browning 9MM" or "9MM Short." A 9MM bullet paired with a shorter case. In real life I wouldn't want to get shot with either!
You are correct sir
The projectile is the exact same, just a little shorter case and less powder so less velocity. Same as 30.06 and .308.
9mm is 9x19, .380 is 9x17. 9mm makarov is 9x18. thats my understanding of them
Usually a lighter bullet weight
We need the legend to the review the legendary HK MK23 - After all these years I don't we have ever seen you with that one. Would love to see your impressions of it
.380 has its place like any tool does. The advantage is a concealable firearm in a situation where deep concealment is necessary. I would never choose one over a 9mm if a 9mm could be carried.
"37"? Hickok lying about his age, Come on now, we all know you're a few months away from turning 40.
Hi aaron are you single
@maryhumphrey9568 At the moment, was married for 17 years have 4 kids, but I don't see how that's relevant to the video or my comment.
Jack Benny claimed to be 39 for 40 years. Died when he was actually 79 years old.
@@aarongreenfield9038 LOL!! 👍🏻 “Mary” is asking a lot of guys if they’re single. “She’s” probably a middle-aged man sitting in a computer-filled room with a bunch of other “Mary’s.”
@@Z7d3nR4 And when we're young we claim to be 25 years old when we're only like 19, And then We say we're 35 years old when we are 45. Funny how that works.
I sure wouldn't want to be hit by a 90gr JHP at around 1,000fps.
Love the p365 .380, the 9mm is too snappy imo for the original p365
Great content! Enjoyed it.
Good talk!
Got those grips on my gen5 glock 20...love em ,awesome!

Bodyguard 2.0 is good for deep concealment or pocket carry. Good carry gun in hot weather. If carrying .380, I prefer external hollow points.

JMHO
My wife carries this Sig 380. We use Underwood extreme defenders in it.
My old LCP has never malfunctioned in over 400 rounds of FMJ & HP self defense loads. It gets carried when a J Frame cannot be adequately concealed.
Thank you 😊
Hi Rick are you single
I take the Sig p238 with me on hikes. My liberal friends asked what animal would I kill with that. I tell them it's not for animals, its for people. People get weird when no one is around.
In West Virginia, we carry for animals. Not too many people around to worry about! lols
You have a sub 90 IQ.
@gordonditch2373 we hike all over the US
Why is it that all the haters that think they're smarter, come belittle Hickok45? Get your own blogs and post whatever you want with your friends, wait, you don't have any.
With the right ammo. Liberty Civil Defense
Well done sir!
Good enough for Bond, good enough for me
When it comes down to it, anything is better than harsh language. 💯
380 ez is a beautiful thing
I'd rather shoot a 380 than 9 in pocket carry size pistols. Smaller and less recoil makes my old age and health less important to my accuracy
The 380, like the 9mm Makarov, has the advantage that the spring-loaded bolt can be installed, which allows for a compact design.
I like both rounds ❤
God bless you Hickok...I had to re-look at my chart....the .380 acp and the 9mm... You really make me laugh, I love your sense of humour and your humility....you are always fair minded and well balanced.

Still alive, still making vids
It’s much better than a sharp wooden stick, no?
I'm 64 and disabled and the reason you gave is why I carry a .380. Also most cops I know carry a. 380 as a backup.
Uhhh…. I’m a cop. No cop I know carries a 380. It’s either a 38 special, 9 mil, or 45.
@Uhhh. He said “as a backup”. I know LEO’s that do that. My wife loves hers and is much more accurate than when shooting a larger caliber. I’m happy that she will carry it. I think that’s the point of the vlog - all shooters aren’t the same?
I've had my Glock 42 and never had any complaints. Compact and easy on the recoil.
as an ol fat guy, I carry the .380 owb it’s easier to conceal 🤷♂️imho
Great stuff.
Cool, now I can get a version of my LCP Max and Bodyguard 2.0 that might break!
Thank you 🙏 from Turkey 🇹🇷🙏
Luv your show. I only got kimber.

I guess a lotta folks don’t remember when .380 ammo was almost impossible to find … it can happen again … guess who controls the production ??? … now you’re thinking 🤔
Love the videos
Sir Bodyguard 2.0 not appearing in this film.
S&W Bodyguard 2.0 for the win!
38 TPC is the best carry cartridge
Underwood ammo, those fluted rounds are extremely amazing rounds proven in all different tests.
All about placement. A fallen Chicago police officer passed after taking a .22 in between the eyes.
Crazy enough.380 takes less rounds to stop threats compared to a 9mm its like pullng the table cloth from under a dinner table and slowly pulling the table cloth the latter creates a mess the former is so swift all the dinner plates stay in placehope I made snselater.
4:45 what about a .22? Just asking the question?
Any reliably-functioning gun is better than no gun at all.
Hickok45 two questions,1. How come theres no snow out that way, I'm in Arkansas and its 6-7 inches just in central Arkansas? And 2. Can you show us and talk about a Taurus in a 38cal? I've got one a week ago and would like to know a little more on it.
Update on canik 9X19 tpsf
What does tpsf stand for?
@papamarty6480 special forces
This size of gun is practically perfect for the .380 chambering
I think people should carry for their surroundings. Example- if you know you are going to be in a crowded event then carry a 380 because over penetration is not much of a concern with correct ammo.
Smh...All I ever hear is penetration penetration but no one talks about over penetration. Seems they are ok with not only dropping the bad guy but the mom behind them!
Amen, I think they have a John Wick complex
Had a miscreant threaten me from across the street. I said Let me open my glove compartment. He did NOT ask “Wgat caliber?” He about faced
Pros: Less recoil, easier to rack, lighter to carry
Cons: Ammo more expensive than 9mm, sufficient but fewer ammo options
A little Lehigh Defense ammo will take it up a notch, too.
I was wondering this the other day
Psa selling import beretta 84s 299.00..love mine
I remember when 9 was a joke as far as caliber until they overcompensated with overpowered loads. Its now loaded to wearing out handguns prematurely to have ballistics of larger calibers. Why not get a larger caliber instead. Like smaller turbocharged motors revved up to equate with larger horsepower motors at lower rpm.
Had no idea that I was older than Hickok45.
And he’s only 37!
Shot placement is better. Self defense scenarios can be trained for. You can carry 22WMR and be just as effective.
I like 380, it’s just something I’d never carry. Unless it’s for better concealment of course. Or something else more practical.
How are there leaves on the trees? :D
