  • Lots of obstacles overcome, many more to go. It all comes with building things from scratch.

    Solid mounts is probably a real good idea. Takes out a lot of variables. I found rubber mounts don't last long on the strip or off road anyway.

    You are literally the coolest dude on the internet. Who would have thought to use a Subaru boxer and Subaru transaxle on a buggy. Shame you are having so much trouble with the cv axles. Would making a longer lower control arm and pushing the wheels back a bit help that crazy angle? Also dumb question but entertain my thought of longer lower arms on the back and stay with me swap the direction of the engine and trans axle where the weight evens out. Those lowers seem way too short in my opinion. Faacck seeing the smile on your face shredding it in your backyard is bliss. Keep up the good work man.

    one reason it could be in limp mode is the oil pressure switch as well if its not wired up will put the cruze into engine power reduced

    I think you are going to continue to have problems with those axles at such a drastic angle. I have built a few buggies in the past 50+ years and I haven't seen one with that much angle built in. You do really good work you just need to rethink that setup... just my opinion. If you do work for people you might consider making a few of those trans adapters, I believe you will be very surprised at how many you would sell. None of the makers of that type adapter make them. The 1.4T is a great little engine that makes very decent power. My last build for myself has a 1.4T.

      just have to use the right parts, I have a bus trans , micro stub 3x3 , 930 cv's and I get 18" travel, running a 10" king coilover 12" king bypass been pounding on it full throttle for a decade , in desert, people run too long of a shock and have it mounted right at the axel , but ay long shock look cool have to be valved like a feather moving 1:1 with the wheel
      the only mod I done to the cv's is where the balls come together on the outer cv part, I grind It open so the balls can move out further and they can get more angle.. I don't do it like the sand guys open the entire notch and have them floppy.
      someone I knew made cv's for race cars F1 and others said the strength is in all the ball touching at the same time , On my cv for extreme angle I just mod where the problem Occurs

    I know you said those are high angle CVs, but man, seeing how far forward they angle at ride height in order to have the engine and trans as far back as they are certainly looks weird!

    the cage is what typically breaks first in high load/angle applications and we all know it's instantly downhill from there. 🤣

    Have a good trip! When I first bought my 4 seat car the 1st time the back tires came off the ground I blew apart 930 cvs on both sides. Couple twists in the limiter straps got me through the trip with new CVs

      I think I will incorporate a VSS on my next axle and trailing arm build. Combined with a 6-speed tune I think we will be all good, plus having speedo would be nice for road riding anyway.

    When the Engine and transaxle torque in the direction of the rotating Mass... that's why only the one axle velocity joint bearing cage is breaking...More solid mounting maybe polyurethane biscuits...

    Cv must run true at normal operating too much angle for a cv, extend trailing arms, lower engine gearbox. CVs won't last running at full extent at all times, causing load on cage at all times, will never last and spit cages. Due too constant side load, any more than 2 inches of angle variation, failed CV.

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  5 місяців тому

      Sand cars with 24" of travel are doing it. CVs can take constant angle it just shortens life. While the geometry here is not good for CV's, a beefier CV will solve a lot of the problems. I am going to extend the trailing arms and use larger CVs.

    Ecu boost cut?

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  Рік тому

      It closes the throttle body and blows off the boost to manage torque. So much so that it only makes 20whp at 5000rpms. Amazing how much these ecus fight the standalone use, but I will get it figured out
