Later on in the manga a lady named Azumabito from Hizuru, an Asian Nation which I think is just the equivalent of Japan in the world of AOT, comes to claim Mikasa as she was believed to be the direct descendant of a Royal bloodline in Hizuru.
Technically, it's just that their story is being told in Japanese. We don't know the actual language they're speaking since it was never specified.
