Depends if you have a chase vehicle to carry all your belongings then something to get about in once you get there, I suppose.
Oh and if you don't mind spending time in a disease ridden cattle truck while paying multiple times the cost for the experience.
Its hardly a win for the train, is it?
I took a pizza out of the bottom of my freezer today and as my fingers started to freeze whilst holding it, all the wonderful memories of "the hottest May on record" came flooding back. It's so cold because it's hotter, apparently.
Ha ha! It's almost like "no symptoms....is a symptom"
Diesel estates rock. All of 'em.
If the WEF have their way the 24 hour race will need to have articulated EV lorries going flat out for 24 hours with 40 tonne batteries.
Plus 3 ton diesel generators to keep each one charged.
It's a great business
I used to drive, a 40 ton articulated truck around Europe, regularly doing 24 hour non stop drives,
as for "flat out" I did once drove my Scania, 143, 450, at 100 mph, at 40 tons up,
on a Spanish motorway, near Zaragoza, at 3 am, "fully loaded 40 ton articulated truck racing,
would be the ultimate motor sport", nowadays, I drive a Mini Cooper Electric,
(the Scania 143, 450, and the Mini Cooper Electric are the 2, best ever vehicles I've driven),
@@organickevinlondon @organickevinlondon I thought the Mini-E was quite poor, after driving behind one in the New Galloway forest. It really struggled on damp corners. Must be its high weight.
I looked at its specs when I got home and found its range was less than I get from my motorbike
@@chrisbarron5861 I take my Mini Cooper Electric for a spin around a forest about 30 miles from my home, at least once per week, and find, it handles far better than my old Mini Cooper ICE, its a bit heavier than its ICE counterpart, BUT, it has a lower centre of gravity, which as you know is a key factor for cornering, its also got as near as possible 50/50 front rear axle weight distribution too, so it really does handle far better than I imagined, and it gets incredibly wet in that forest too, I once drove it around there after some decent snowfall too, seeing lots of abandoned ICE's on the unploughed roads, the only other cars I saw driving around there, were ones from the local 4x4 club,
As for the manufacturers stated range of 145 miles, I usually get between 120 and 170 miles out of mine, BUT, I am an ex international HGV1 driver, (Scania 143, {that's for 14 point 3 litre engine} 450 {that's its BHP} V8, turbo, with a 16 speed box) that knows a thing or two about driving and I got the Mini Cooper Electric as I'm into the Environment and always owned Minis, 3 Issigonis ones, a BMW petrol and now the Mini Cooper Electric, its range doesn't bother me at all, as I live in London, so virtually everywhere I need to go, is within 50 miles of my home, (its 33 miles to my local forest and 20 miles around it, plus the 33 miles to get back home, makes 86 miles) my local public charging point, about 500 meters from my home, is FREE to use too, so that 86 mile round trip to, around and from my local forest costs me ZERO in fuel, my old Mini Cooper ICE,
used to cost me, 20 p per mile to fuel, IF I charged my Mini Cooper Electric up at a public charger, I would use a 56 p per kWh one, thjat would cost me 14p per mile, I could charge at home, that would cost me 7p per mile, but hey, only a FOOL charges at home, when yer can charge up for FREE, oh, and its tyres last the same miles than my old Mini Cooper ICE's did too, servicing over 30,000 miles, "120 quid".
It can easily handle, going outside of its so called comfort zone or range, as I regularly do, London to Lands End and back, "just for the hell of it", at 72 mph, even in mid winter, with the lights, wipers and heater on, I can get a 120 mile range out of it, I usually just do 100 miles, on 70 mph roads, then stop to charge, which takes 30 mins, so on a London to Lands End journey, of about 300 miles, it only takes 1 hour longer, than by driving non stop, so its no skin off my nose at all, on these longer trips, I work out my journey time as 100 miles every 2 hours, (that's 1 and 1/2 hours driving at 72 mph, then 30 mins charging up), so "there you have it" some genuine information about the Mini Cooper Electric, instead of "just assuming stuff about it, because you got stuck behind one on yer motorbike".
@@chrisbarron5861 I take my Mini Cooper Electric for a spin around my local forest at least ONCE per week, and the amount of surface water there, can be incredible, and find it handles far better than the Mini Cooper petrol it replaced, yep its a bit heavier than the petrol version, BUT, its got a lower centre of gravity, plus, virtually 50/50 front rear axle weight distribution, so its far better at cornering than the old Mini Cooper petrol, (getting stuck behind ONE for a few minutes is hardly detailed, real life driving experience of the vehicle, or detailed research at all is it).
As for its range, I get between 120 and 170 miles of range out of mine, (the manufacturers stated range is 145 miles, which is smack bang between 120 and 170)
which suits me just fine, as virtually everywhere I need to go on a weekly basis is within 50 miles from my home in London (my local forest is 33 miles away and its a 20 mile drive around it, then another 33 miles to get back home, that's 86 miles in total, so I don't need to charge up on that route), furthermore, my local public EV charging point, 500 meters from my home, is FREE to use, so as long as I do round trips, of less than say 120 miles, all year round, as that 120 mile range is my winter range, "I'm guaranteed FREE road fuel, for that driving", longer journeys are no big deal either, I do London to Lands End and back to London, on a regular basis, "just for the hell of it", as my Mini Cooper Electric, does 4 miles per kWh of battery, at 72 mph, with the lights, wipers and heater on in mid winter, I usually stop to charge it up, after 100 miles, as that makes the journey maths easier to work out, 100 miles @ 4 miles per kWh, means at worst, I've used 25 kWh of electricity, and to charging it up, at a 50 kW charger, will take 30 minutes, so on the about 300 mile trip from London to Lands End, it takes about 1 hour longer, than driving non stop, (which really is nothing to crow about in reality) as I would charge up at the 100 and 200 mile mark, for 30 minutes each time,.
Lee can always use his time waiting by counting his chins....gotta take at least an hour!
Electric traction makes sense but only when it's a train
Lee's trip was quicker but your trip was much better. Route wise we would do the Portsmouth to Caine route, longer ferry crossing but shorter distance to Le Man.
'Rabbit and the Hare..' 😂 Poor old Tortoise gets excluded 🐢
When the MacMaster got into your car from where you picked him up outside that bar, you could tell he’d had a litre of strong French beer 😄😄🤪🤪🤪. Great video, bringing back lots of memories driving that route to the south west of France.
lovely HAAP enhanced skies at the end .... smashing 👍🏽
Currently experiencing the hottest June this year - we are on holiday in Gran
Canaria and it was 26C earlier, but down to a pleasant 20C now at 10pm.
It never fails to amaze me the fuel prices out here. Diesel is €1.23 and E5 petrol is €1.28, just over £1 per litre! Let’s not mention the price of beer and eating out compared to the U.K.
Thank You Geoffrey, nice video and ferry crossing. Keep the vids rolling 👍 Au
The toll tags aren’t bothered about registration plate.
Great videos Geoff this and the prep along with the Benidorm ones too..
Great Video Geoff , Lee in a tent come on LOL
"Leave the ev at home, and take the train".....😂😂😂😂👍👍👍👍👍
Great video love the impression of Lee arriving at the bar stating he is an important UA-camr 😂
Good consumer advice about the ferry crossing and the Club Lounge Geoff. Something I'll look in to when using the ferry next time. Thanks 👍
Great stuff Geoff 👍 .. now off to watch Lee 🙂
How can Mac claim a win when he needed a lift from you to get to the Circuit... puzzled
Great video Geoff, very entertaining 😊
£64 for the crossing! I just paid £290 (return) to get from Dublin to Holyhead last weekend for a car meet in England. It was around the same price if going Larne/Cairnryan. Love these driving videos, and the separate 'rant' ones you did on the same journey. Geoff for PM.
The good old Sony beeping😂
Bloody hell Geoff, the Ferrari stopped for a coffee... :)
Nice one, Geoff 👍
Good video Geoff, enjoyed the ride, but dont think its equal you driving ferry driving, to Lee going on the eurostar train, with faster speeds and no hold ups, along with the other trains he went on, but a very different challenge 😊
You appear to drive similar to me , let the desperate drivers go and just keep plenty of distance .
House rental market in Melbourne Australia is so bad. Love to hear your thoughts on home rentals. Great travel video . Thanks.
If it wasn’t a challenge, why didn’t he just go in the car with you?😂😂😂
If you bought the club class for £12 when buying the ticket you would get free priority boarding and speedy exit thrown in for free!
Club Class at £12 is good value if your planning on eating or drinking anything onboard which your not bringing with you.
Loved 🥰 you video a few weeks ago with Lee the macmaster regarding that really crappy hot breakfast for near €20 each on the exact same ferry. Fat fried sausage 😂 for that price too 😊
Do more food reviews plus do something with Lee’s Irish ☘️ friend the Craicmaster, love 💕 to see more of him on UA-cam he is great fun 🤩
I may do more food stuff 👍
The guy in the Ferrari pulled a couple of birds by virtue of his prancing horse and had to give them a length hence the delay!
… Not that you couldn’t pull a bird in a green Volvo diesel with a dodgy headlining and a shaggy rug on the rear seat if you wanted to … 💭 😂😂
Why the ferry and not the Chunnel?By the time you got your food and coffee you would be in France via the tunnel, just curious.
On the prep video he said the Chunnel was £320, against £64 on the ferry.
Had Geoff taken Le Shuttle, would he have got there as quickly as Lee?
Love the sound of that 5 pot diesel Geoff.
(Audi) quattro sounds far better !
You said 1.63 euros per litre! for diesel and in English that is £1.38 which is what I pay this week with a fuel card.
geoff the toll tags are not linked to any car just your bank account i lend mine out all the time and get the money off who i lend it to try going for the T 30 ones you can go through at 30 kph without slowing down too much
Was Lees taxi driver Joel?
Vanessa paradoxes pal! Hehe.
Cost 1 person in a train versus a car. Now, 2 people, train would have cost twuce as much, less the taxis, in a car, almost identical less the ferry prices! 3 ir mire people, car becomes even more economical
7 seats in my wagon! Be a squeeze in the boot for adults though and
Go, Geoff!
Question.... Was the Uber Lee took... EV or ICE ??? 🤣
Tesla!
@@GeoffBuysCars😂😂
Hope you don't get a fine through fo the reg no. that's on your car
Hey Up Geoff! 👍🏻
Brilliant ❤
in the future, when diesel is £10 a litre, your car will be worth a fortune...
Thought you would have bought a house Geoff. At least in a way you'd own the place and in many ways cheaper than renting also you not giving your money to someone else to build their pension pot.
For the YT channel that has the most wonderful fade out music, your background driving music is SHITE!
Nostalgia, isn't what it used to be. Geoff, if you were older you wouldn't want to go to X or Y in 1995, it would be 1985. Older still 1975. It's a different telling of the ex American GI story. About the brothels, the whores and the fun that could have been had with and in them in different wars. Your kids will want to do a 2020s road trip. As for anything else, it depends on what you tell them about your brothel experiences! 😇
I did Hungary, Romania, Yugoslavia and East Berlin 39 years ago. Similar, two and four years later. Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the land corridor through Russia twenty-five years ago. The tales of those who were there ten or fifteen years earlier are always better!
I would take the Volvo of course! 🙂
❤️🤩❤️😊
Haha it’s connected to your Bank account 😂.
You’ve borrowed that music from the MacMaster again! Stop it. 😂
Don’t tell anyone but I had no internet when editing this - couldn’t download any fresh music so has to work with what I had
Why would you take the train to Le Mans? Driving there is the fun of the trip!
im just a nice classic car guy had many classics ,2.8 granadas, BMWE38 loads and mercs to many to list ,Mrs geoffs Butt was funny over 3 million veiws . .
"He's very small but he's definitely there".
Story of my life 🤣
Disturbing for Geoff on a number of levels what does she know that we dont😂😂😂😂
@@kevinmott6205Why do you think he loves Volvo Estates? 🪱 😂
@@DMAEmmeryJohn now I'm with you😂😂😂😂😂
@kevinmott6205 Geoff loves Volvos because of his love of Jonathan Creek. Another Debunker of the Magical Illusion
I'm sure he's packing in the trousers department. He's been seen plenty of times lately hanging out with a massive 'Dick' 😆
geoff future tip lad , if you are liberating cans of pop from the ship , you should of made a pack up lunch too , moneys worth and that , jams are also good for pilfering :)
Hi Geoff, great video but I couldn't help notice how much black smoke the ferry was producing. That'll be an mot fail.😂
Must be one of those EGR deletes
Great video again Geoff. I'm so glad you put those bloody mad skies on the video at the end. I kept watching them during your journey and shouting at the screen 🤣
No tent, no sleeping bag … who’s the winner ???
Brlliant video Geoff very funny and entertaining as always thanks mate 😂😂😂❤
Good price and choice in the club class, Geoff. 🎉
Good to see you doing some scenic roads instead of all motorway. And wasn't it good to see a happy and relaxed Macman. No longer being chased by the gohst of range anxiety. Good video.
Yeah it was nice to see a happier Lee!
why the ferrari ended up behind you? because he had to stop for fuel. "just 5 mins to refuel" are 10 in reality with slowing down and speeding back up.
To get a 10 mins gap on google maps' ETA means driving 180 kph for an hour on the german autobahn vs. the recommended speed of 130 kph that google calculates with.
Car and ferry for me the £12 upgrade was money well spent and the ferry still was cheaper than Lee getting to London 😂
4:26 love the tune! Had to be a Swedish band for the Swedish car! ❤
Hi Geoff when you go home take Lee with you from Le Mans and you have some one to talk to on ways home.👍👍
Sans tolls. It would have taken just an hour longer.
Turnoff to Boulogne to avoid the Toll Section towards Roune on the A16 is what the locals do
The Eurostar's an experience on 2 wheels...watching your bikes, all in a row, swaying from side to side with the movement of the train, isn't good for the nerves!! 😂
Geoff did you actually meant that "the hottest Summer on record" because I think is the other way around mate.
I living in the UK for 34 years and this is the coldest Summer on record, actually 2024 is the coldest year on record so far and yet the criminals in Westminster parliament are keeping hammering about global warming bools.
That was brilliant! Mad that you saw a m8 at the ferry port.
What was hilarious was that Lee fell in love with a cab driver. PMSL
19:24 the Ferrari must have stopped for fuel in a service station 😂
I'd love a "What would Geoff do" t-shirt. I bet it felt strange Lee winning for a change. 👍😃
Geoff just wondering why you didn't go on the Portsmouth to Caen ferry and save yourself a lot of miles?
I think it was a lot more expensive
@@GeoffBuysCars 3 times ish for the ferry but saves on tolls and miles, wait to see your costings !
the end of this one was really funny :D
Another good one Geoff👏👍
You certainly have kissed the Blarney Stone!
Your name sake keeping tabs on you🤗‼️
Love the sound of that 5 pot Diesel!! Great Vid Geoff.
In France, your toll tag will work what ever vehicle you are in, it will know whether you are a car, van or truck and just charge you accordingly. I use ''BipandGo, and it saves so much time at the tolls
It is still sort of a win for the EVangelists as the Eurostar/TGV are EVs 😜 OTSOT inline-5 engines have way more character than any milk float.
you both should try doing an edit where you put both vids together to form 1.... would be fun
the Ferrari thing is like the Rabbit and the Turtle where the Ferrari would just be lazy
Couldn’t you have put a flask up and some home made sandwiches to save money?
I wonder if the point of electric cars is to make it better to use public transport or stay at home?
I always go in club class or the truckers lounge if i go freight well worth it
good video geoff, the mac moanmaster was happy to see you
Anyone else getting Range Rover ads on all of these videos lol
That Ferrari was first registered the same month as my Dacia stepway thats where the similarities end
Nah mate. They both have 4 wheels as well. Don't exaggerate! 😜
Good old Dacia.Quality car.Does it have the cool 1.5 dci in it?
Well you tried too by using the EU govt paid for Toll Roads & Subsidised chargers instead of at least using the A Roads one way which is the roads the locals from france too Portugal use, which would of given a fairer view that EVs arent as great as new infrastructure built for an agenda tried to give!
Good point
Who would get the train to Le Mans?
Could have taken a takeaway package of food from the ferry for that price Geoff. Another great non whinging video until the last 4 minutes😂😂🇦🇺🦘🪃🇦🇺🦘🪃
I had a Saab 900i, Geoff. It was a company car. took the wife to Norway for 3 weeks holiday in 1991. Great car. Un-nickable, cos you had to put it in reverse before taking the keys out. It was nicked twice!
I'd love to go back to lemans. The last time I was there was 2009. We drove down to Mont Ventoux, did the hillclimb and rally, then drove back up to lemans and did a support race after changing the diff in a chicken shed to get more top speed.
Is that 19.00hrs European or UK? 🤔😆.
Got the notification on, no worries....
kenwood face off, old skool :))))
Sony but yes!
@@GeoffBuysCars I was close, but no cigar:) Best Wishes
Great to see your vid coincidence or fait ?......Tomorrow we are starting our road trip from the Highlands of Ecosse to south west France. Were going to hire a van, but just blew it out as it was turning out to be a nightmare at enterprise. Now we are taking the 940 estate 2.4TDCI 170K on the clock ....;-)
Great car for the trip so keep me posted on your fuel economy…? Did you buy it for this trip..?
@@GeoffBuysCars We bought it two yrs ago down in Epsom after searching for 6 months. We intended to hire a car for the trip, but the company is run by numpties and I had to back out last minute due to their incompetence. The volvo is always ready to go as I look after it myself. It's the big heavy straight six vw so not as good on fuel as yours, but will gladly keep you posted. Not seen part two yet still getting ready .....;-)
Just got to Dover from north of Inverness 756 miles with one overnight stop, looking like 35mpg. Will be heading to the Dordogne, booked a place just last night at a huge last minute discount
