  • Is Huguenot Park the best beach in Jacksonville Florida? I'm not sure, but if you like smooth, royalty free reggae beats and sunny days at the beach, then this video just might be right up your alley.
    Mrs. King Overland and I drove to a nearby beach we had never visited. Huguenot Memorial Park in Jacksonville FL, so named because French Huguenots landed there in 1562. There was a French fort in Jacksonville before the Spanish established St. Augustine, the oldest city in what is now the United States. Anyway, the French colony did not last, the Spanish took over and held sway for a couple hundred years. Then there were a few wars, a new nation was born, and well, as they say the rest is history.
    But I digress, if you like driving on the beach and seeing other cool vehicles and just people watching in general, check out Huguenot Park. The park is up against the Atlantic Ocean and the St. Johns River and is just across the river from Mayport Naval Base in Jacksonville. It even has camping, which I may partake of at a later date. ;-)
    Thanks for watching.

      It really is great, isn’t it? Even on tame beaches like this one.

    Nice video we used to camp out there a lot when we had a camper. It used to be first come first served. And they did no reservations . Now it's hard to get a site on the river I was told because you can reserve a site way in advance . It gets crazy out there on holiday weekends. You use to be able to drive on the inlet side at high tide it got very tricky to drive on iy you didn't have a 4x4. At night it's nice out there if you are camping out there it gets pretty deserted . When all the people go home . It's best to go out there during the week and after school starts back. Thanks for the video I have a lot of memories from out there.

      I’m going to have to try that time period. I tried to plan a Labor Day weekend trip but they were booked solid.

    Hey was great meeting you today at the Perth 4wd show. If I have 1 recommendation for you it’s to visit any beach while you’re here in Aus. Crystal clear waters. But if you can, go up north a bit.

    The beach was nice though a bit crowded for my likes. I guess its to be expected, so what can you do?

      Very good. Our original choice was a place called Singleton’s, but when we found out about the 1-2 hour wait we headed over to the Salt Life Food Shack. I had shrimp and chorizo tacos that were out of this world!

    This was nice, thanks for the tour! I looked it up because sadly, there was an article about a fight and the cops cleared the beach - looks like a huge beach to clear for a fight. So many disappointed people. I live close to Salt Life - when I saw you on 3rd St I just knew that's where y'all were headed! What was your first choice? I'm just hoping it wasn't Singleton's. Cheap tasting on styrofoam plates. Cheers!

      People can ruin a good thing, can’t they?
      Our first choice was Singletons! 😂 But I’m glad we ended up at Salt Life. The food there was excellent.

    Have you ever checked out Amelia Island State Park? It's not that far away from Huguenot, and it tends to be a little less crowded (and you can drive on it).

    • @NathanKingOverland
      @NathanKingOverland  Рік тому +1

      I have indeed! I like that place even better.
      And Peter’s Point used to be fun, but the last time I tried going there the deputy at the check-in point told me driving on the beach was no longer allowed for nonresidents of Nassau County.
