1928-2016 RIP Being the same age, I heard Bobby sing on radio and in the movies. Didn't know until I read his 19 Sept. 2016 obituary that he was born in Canada. Bobby Breen, was born Isadore Borsuk in Montreal, the son of Hyman and Rebecca, poor Jewish immigrants from Ukraine, on 4 Nov. 1928. Soon after, the family, including his three older sisters, moved to Toronto. His sister Susan, a music student, noticed the boy’s singing talent as early as the age of three. After lessons with her music teacher, he began to sing in public, winning prizes at competitions. By the age of six, little Isadore, who had become Bobby Breen, was singing in shows around the US. In New York, he enrolled in the Professional Children’s School and got the part of Bob Hope’s newsboy son in the Broadway musical Say When (1934). Finally landing in Hollywood, he appeared regularly on Eddie Cantor’s weekly radio show. This led to the film producer Sol Lesser offering him the starring role in Let’s Sing Again (1936).

I'm sorry, the math doesn't work if Breen's birthyear was 1928 and this movie was 1936, then he would have been only 8yrs old. Otherwise, thanks for the background info. Beautiful voice and tender story.

boy, did Henry Armetta sound just like my grand papa. The only time grandpa ever got mad at me was when I was imitating him, not making fun, but just talking like him and he asked. You makin a fun ah dah way a speak?

Where is the song Bobby Breen sang called Happy As A Lark? I saw the movie but forgot the name of it.
