hats off to you mate its a massive undertaking for one man in his garage but after seeing what you've managed to do before im sure its gonna be fantastic when its done 👍
Shared this with a few Mates that have the 6 cylinder Australian Marinas over here in OZ. Going to be an interesting build I'm thinking. Cheers for sharing, Billy J.... Queensland, Australia.
As a diy’er I remember gas welding my 1.8 marina just to keep it on the road, that was 40yrs ago, I’m in total awe, well done, look forward to seeing the future 👍
Had a coupé in 1983. Bought it so I could drive me and my flat mates to a party! Nearly rolled it before I realised the front dampers were shot. Scrapped it a few weeks later. Epic project you're doing. Good luck 👍😀
You-Tubes algorithm thought I'd like your channel. I love these home brewed conversions of BL cars. Many years ago I mated a Maxi shell to an Audi 100 engine/box and front suspension for circuit racing. Wot a flyer. TR7 to TR8 was a money earner for me when Sd1's and Trumpers were 2 a penny in the papers.. Best of luck with your build from a new subscriber.
With most 60's /70's cars it was easy( ish) with no HP fuel and "brains" to cobble together.. just good old fashioned measuring and a heap of CDF.. commondogf@@k
Fascinating Marina deconstruction and reverse engineering. Looking forward to watching progress - certain that with the quality of your project, it will be worthy of display at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon. Hats off!
Ahh the Marina Coupe, the first car I was in during a crash with my mate back in ‘88, a total write-off but we walked away. Never see them anymore, I shall enjoy the series👍Subbed.
So, not looking to battle anyone, but what's the difference between drawing the design and finalising the engineering? I'm guessing both cars had a team involved to engineer post design, some team members likely to be common to both cars, both of which were built within the company ethos of that time?
They may well have shared teams, but I had head that internal politics between marks sometimes got in the way. Having cut out the front chassis rails I'd say the construction was similar between the two cars but no different to any other monocoque chassis of the time i.e. central cross brace, forward running rails etc.
Interested to see what this does to the handling. My old saloon handled great with Spax adjustable telescopic dampers on a late Ital van mounting conversion so McPherson struts should improve on that
It should give a little bit of balance with the steering rack now under the engine and the motor a little further backwards. Saying that, my turbo saloon handles like it is on rails with torsion bars, but is quite harsh with stiff rear springs and tighter telescopic dampers on the front.
When you're finished with this one, that'll shut up the trio I should think. One crud thing about acid though, rockers, sills, plate & seam joints & framerails, are now stripped of what little protection they got from factory. ... Good luck with that 🤣
I think it will. The shell needs approx. 25-30 panels plus new chassis rails, most of that is areas where the seams would be stripped as you say. Once completed the shell is being dipped and e-coated. Thanks for watching.
Yes it was WOK 107J an ex press car they modified. Then they built the V8 rally car for the '74 UDT rally along with a V8 pickup for custom car magazine. The trick was to use block hugger headers on the RV8 to clear the chassis rails and a manual gearbox from a P6 iirc? The valance bulge changed to a complete centre removal on the UDT car so the radiator could be placed in.
Regrettably sad that the Q plate situation has to be accepted, but that's the law, if you want to stay on the safe side. But what about the biva test before that? Not insurmountable as I understand it, but not a walk in the park. Appropriately marked glass is I gather a usual issue, but nothing that ££££££'s doesn't fix.
My dad had one, in burgundy with a plum velvet interior, looked great constantly broke down, foot well and boot filed up with water every time it rained, first time I heard my dad swear because it would not start on a cold day again, mum got on to him so swapped it for a 4 door cortina

Hi, I heard you mention the instalation of a TR7 front on to a Marina and that this was not BL's intention. I am not here to say your wrong, however back in 1977 I was under training on The E. I. T. B. training scheme. Towards the end of my course I was shown round the Cowley works with a view to becoming a tool maker. I visited many departments at Cowley including paint and trim departments and corrosion assessment on the SD1. I was show a vehicle which was something to do with safety assessment. It had things like automatic seat belts and I think a camera rear view mirror. I have always described the car as looking like a Marina with a TR7 nose. Apparently the low nose was a pedestrian safety feature. So in conclusion your statement may have some credance. 👍Cheers
That would have been the SRV project cars. SRV2 is at Gaydon Motor Museum and is a saloon. There was a coupe as well I think, but it hasn't survived. The front end does look very TR7, so yes, some credance.
