    Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for. Very simply, yet clearly explained. One of those rare and delightful UA-cams that are done with a volition to make the process clear and easily understood. I have a long and irregular curved garden ramp. Now understand how it can be done section by section. Appreciate your effort 🙏🏻

    Hi, it gives very fare idea about all aspects of curved ramps. I have a question regarding vehicular circular ramps (4.0 mts wide) which goes upto 3.6 to 4.5 mt height (from one floor to another floor) with circular ramps.
    Need to know whether there is a need to provide banking on the outer edge of the ramp as provided in curved roads or the ramps. ?
    Just let me know if there is any reference available for studying this.
    Thank You

    Thanks for the video, do you have a formula to calculate the curved ramp length for a given rise and radius

    • @randomarchitecturenotes-na809
      @randomarchitecturenotes-na809  2 роки тому

      2 pi R will give you the perimeter of the circle for a given radius. Decide the size of the segment size and then calculate. So for a quarter of the curve, divide perimeter by 4. This will give you the total horizontal distance to be travelled as a curve for the desired rise.

    Wonderfully explained. What should be the minimum slope leading to the basement and also the maximum slope in terms of ratio?

    • @randomarchitecturenotes-na809
      @randomarchitecturenotes-na809  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry for the late reply. 1 in 8 is the maximum for a motorable ramp. Less slope, say 1 in 12 or more is comfortable. But less the slope, more horizontal distance is required.

      It should have curve in more than one direction since on the two edges we are rising the same dimensions but with different run (horizontal movement). An exaggerated similar condition can be the soffit of a curved staircase.
      Thanks a lot for appreciating.

    Hi, brilliant tutorial, quick question, my ramp is curved at different angles (a wavy line), how do I find a central point? Would I use the same principle?

    • @randomarchitecturenotes-na809
      @randomarchitecturenotes-na809  3 роки тому +3

      Hi, Thanks.
      Yes. Even if you have a very organic shape, try to give it a geometry using segments of circles (no matter if they have different radius. Also ensure that you get a mid landing where you have the meeting of two different wavy curves.

      When there is a curve, super elevation to be provided against skidding

    • @randomarchitecturenotes-na809
      @randomarchitecturenotes-na809  2 роки тому +1

      @@amitdas7604 Super elevation is, mostly, provided for roads with relatively fast moving vehicular traffic, where the vehicle may have a tendency to skid and get thrown out.
      Here we are dealing with pedestrian traffic on a relatively smaller length of movement.
      Ramps have been an important source of movement keeping in mind accessibility for specially abled user who may be moving up or down either on foot or using a wheel chair. The rise is also taken accordingly. So the ramp needs to be designed accordingly.
      In this video, my main intent was understand the geometric construction of a curved ramp. With these basics in mind, additional needs may also be incorporated as per design.

    I want a ramp at a height of 3 metre..so .should we divide the lines as 3 m by 12 and give risers for each.?!....and how to determine the thickness of the ramp..?!

    • @randomarchitecturenotes-na809
      @randomarchitecturenotes-na809  3 роки тому

      Is it a curved ramp?
      As per the slope of the ramp (1 in 12 is the maximum slope for pedestrian ramp), find the total run (check video for What is total run).
      Make the line of total run and then get the heights of rise for each division (check the video for this)
      What do you mean by thickness of ramp? Do you mean the thickness of ramp slab? Send a sketch to random1notes@gmail.com

    how do you calculate R?

    • @randomarchitecturenotes-na809
      @randomarchitecturenotes-na809  3 роки тому

      "R" is dependent on the space that you have in the design. The constant part is the height that we need to negotiate. I would be happy if the R is as large as possible. The comfortable gradient (say 1 in 20) will give me the run (i.e. the length of the central arc); this in turn can give me the radius. Hope this helps.
