I've always found her performance of this incredibly moving. How Nina transformed a song from a play by British singer/songwriter Anthony Newman into a statement about civil rights, overcoming racism, and the black struggle in America is the best example of the magic of music. Try her doing "Mississippi Goddamn", "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", "My Baby Just Cares For Me", and "Sinnerman".
Finally you guys reacted to the greatest of all time !!!!! Strong, powerful, vulnerable, sensitive, human, black, smart, artistically gifted, brave, committed….. What else we can say about about this overwhelming human been? Now you can go trough a Nina’s rabbit hole.
Nina simone is a legend checkout her songs four women, blackbird, and sinnerman, great reaction enjoying the all of these great songs
sinnerman awesome song
💖💖💖 this is the BEST VERSION of this Song, ...She had A Beautiful Voice and A strong Character [A Strong Woman].
Three of my favorites are, "I WISH I KNEW (HOW IT WOULD FEEL TO BE FREE)," I PUT A SPELL ON YOU" and "MY BABY CARES FOR ME". This song was cover by Sammy Davis jr and Michael Bublé
I love that y'all reacted to Nina Simone. She's so good. She is absolutely an under-appreciated artist. Willow Weep For Me, Porgy and Bess, and Mississippi Goddam are great songs by her too.
Nina Simone was a fantastic performer, did movies...
Civil Rights Activist, she was still using back doors in clubs she was performing.
Goddam Mississippi was a powerful song...watch live
Sinnermam was a popular song. Used in many movies.
This song always gave me sentiments of death. Sleep in peace when day is done that's what I mean and this old world is a new world and a bold world for me. Lines like that accompanied by others in the song spoke to me of the end of life and the rebirth into a new world. Now I can't say that this is the basis of the song, just one man's opinion. I always felt this was a song I want sung at my funeral.
" to whom the Son sets free is free indeed." We are a free generation thanks to songs such as this.
Nina is an icon. I feel good when she feels good
Icon! The great Nina.
Her voice is like 🍯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
“Sleep in peace when day is done” that line has always stuck with me. It’s like just to be able to lay your head down and sleep in peace with no fear is a gift. This song gives me goosies from beginning to end. Miss Nina is a treasure!!!!!
Oh man, chills!
Wild is the Wind all time most fav song
I saw y’all on my TikTok fyp, and have been scrolling back hoping y’all had reacted to Nina Simone. She’s such a powerful artist with such a deep catalog. Mississippi Goddamn, Four Women, To Be Young Gifted & Black, all classics
One of the all time best and one of my favourites ❤️
The Empress of Soul 🙌🙌 & a huge Advocate and Leader during the Civil Rights Fights of the 1960s. She was a World Class Pianist (Classically Trained & a Phenom).
The 1 Song that Introduced me to her Voice was , WILD IS THE WIND. You can hear the Heartbreak and Sorrow in her voice.
Love love me some Nina Simone!! So glad you did this reaction. She has her own one of kind sound, no one sounds anything like her
I sometimes played this song during 'savasana' at the end of a yoga class while the students were relaxing, there is such power and positivity in her message and voice, an incredible moment in the history of popular music from Nina
There's nothing else to to but to surrender to the passion of this African Ruby. Stirring, inspirational stuff.
Ms Nina Simone..wow.she would sing about the injustices of African American people and her displeasure to whites during that time directly to them and they loved her anyway.
Ms Nina is a QUEEN end of statement
Her voice, and this song, it fills me with hope and encouragement - like, don't give up, don't let the bastards get you down. I love this song so much.
Incredible songstress and singer and an all time favourite of mine. Beautiful, enlightening lyrics
Musical genius. I think that her piano skills that prompted her escalating into stardom is only second to that beautiful soleful excellence in emotional conveyance
Great reaction! I love to see the young generation discovering great artists from the past. I’ve been in love with this great lady since the early’80’s and was lucky to have seen her live twice, before she left us. Her autobiography is well worth reading, if you want a deeper insight into her life and spirit.
Still one of my favorite voices. I've taken a deep dive into Jazz over the last 10 years. Check out Ella Fitzgerald sometime.
So many good ones! Hope you know about Sarah Vaughan too, if not, I hope you enjoy
One of my faves from Nina Simone is “Wild is the Wind”. She’s also a classically trained pianist
My favourite singer . Love Nina !!!!
Great playlist today - really enjoying it
One Of My Favorite Songs, I Love That You Both Understand What "Reaction Videos" Should Be. Lol The Dang Song
Oh you're gonna love this, Nina is incomparable.
The song was written by British actor/singer/songwriter Anthony Newley and songwriter Leslie Bricusse for the stage musical 'The Roar of the Greasepaint - The Smell of the Crowd' in 1964. Nina Simone gave it a whole new intensity and meaning for the Civil Right's Movement of the time.
You should read about her, amazing lady ☮️💜
Legend, Pioneer, unmatched - Niña. 🙏❤️
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 had just passed. There was a lot of hope for a better, more Just America circulating. Also Nina spent a lot of time in France where she was treated much better than she was here. I think this song celebrates all that and more. This song grabs you from the opening note and allows your soul to soar along with Nina’s to the very last powerful declaration of joy. Genius Goddess. Thank you for your thoughtful, careful listening.
Love love me some Nina Simone!! So glad you did this reaction.
not many people can sing unaccompanied and be as smooth as silk.
One of the most powerful voices to be raised during the civil right movement. Please check out her live performance of “Mississippi Goddamn”. Even if you don’t post a reaction, it’s worth a listen.
She didn’t write the song but she brings so much emotion to the song along with her unique and unrivaled power of her voice it transformed the song and became hers.
Love love love this song and my mother played blues when I was a child, gospel songs and rock. Tina Turner was her favorite female singer and my grandfather always talk about them legs she still has.lol I like that her taste to music wasn't singular because I grew up love a vast variety of music genres.
"Feeling Good" (also known as "Feelin' Good") is a song written by English composers Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for the musical The Roar of the Greasepaint - The Smell of the Crowd. It was first performed on stage in 1964 by Cy Grant on the UK tour.
Nina Simone recorded "Feeling Good" for her 1965 album I Put a Spell on You.
Nina MADE THIS SONG hers!!!
Who is here because of The Trelegy Commercial? 😀
So good I wish it was about 20 minutes longer!
BJ, that is exactly how I felt the first time I heard this! 🤯
Rhiannon Giddens is Someone yall need to check out.Not sure what song tho She sings everything from Blue Grass to opera
Super song by a stellar artist ❤
1965 black woman, singing this kind of songs damn i’m so proud 🙌🏻
Amazing performance
Audra Mae did a great cover of this. It's amazing.
"Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" is a vibe!
One of fav ppl that walked the earth is Nina Simone and her version on this song is the absolute best, with that said 2 white men wrote this song their names are Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse.
Her version of Bod Dylan's song Ballad Of Hollis Brown is incredible.
One of my favorites...
Best pregame song. It centers you, reminds you it's a new day (forget past games), and when the horns and strings come in - perfect badass swagger beat. Yeah, you may have beaten me before but I'm feeling good today.
As a white English boy in the 60s and 70s Nina and a few other artists played a major role in my questioning, and complete rejection, of the casual racism that permeated far too much of my society.
I was born in the 60s
Try Shirley Temple she is an actor, a tape dancer & a singer she started singing an actor at the age of 5 from 1935
Late 50's. I love this singer.
This is the only version of Feeling Good that I listen to - others have covered it and there are different arrangements, but this right here is all there is.
Mississippi God damn, should be your next Nina Simone reaction!!!🇨🇦💖🇺🇸😷🙏
No one evokes emotion outta me like Nina 💗 Sinnerman is epic… also check out Billie Holiday.
it's like a million years worth of experience would sound like.
You guys should check out her song "sinnerman" it is hypnotic magic
choose the one with the lyrics because the one with the video will distract you from the power of the song♥️
Love you both ❤️ but still team Asia 😆
there's a great cover by CROWN LANDS
Recommendation for more Nina Simone: Pirate Jenny. Originally from the play The Threepenny Opera by Berthold Brecht and Kurt Weill, which also was the origin of the song Mack the Knife. Just her and a piano, live - iconic.
In this context I like how her t shirt says "back like we never left"
Nina is a legend , but , I like the way young Angelina Jorden sings this song .
Love Angelina but there is no way to compare her with Nina.
@@gerardocls amen!
Love Nina simone!!!! Please check out Dinah Washington she is also as amazing!!!!! Love your reaction ♥ ❤

You definitely need to listen to sinnerman by nina,
When I was a young girl in Boston MA my grandmother told me how right in that city where both my grandparents were born some time in the 1900s. They met and married in the mid1930s. One thing she recalled to me was that she and my grandfather were not allowed to dance together in public. Because my grandmother looked white they were forbidden to be seen dancing. This was in Boston MA the so called seat of liberalism. Same city Io was born in also in. 1966 and was classified as Colored on my birth certificate. My parents and older brother were all classified as Negro. Hmmm???
