BethINI would have been a perfect addition to this tutorial as it is another essential tool for the ease of ini tweaks without having to actually open the .ini. Regardless of adding it or not this is a great video.
Quick tip that I just found out you need to actually load the game up for the first time in steam if you want to the game to appear in your global instance so just open it once get on the main menu and close out. If it still doesn't appear just power your pc on and off again it should appear. Hope this helps someone :)
Thank you. I was having real problems understanding why some Mods would throw up errors or show the RED warning text in Manual section. I do personally prefer the Manual Install feature though obviously that will be avoided with FOMOD Installers, which then just means a few right choices of what I want as it goes through each specified section. Understanding the FO4 Load Order, in comparison to my previous experience with Skyrim SE, was a bit problematic in the beginning. But I did watch one of your recent videos detailing that. So thanks for that one too. Very Helpful Channel.
I believe with Mod Organizer 2, the left-side list of mods is where you can sort it to choose conflict winners as well. If two mods accidentally edit the same texture, for example, place the one lower that you want to have its texture used in place of the one higher up. This is useful if you want 2 sets of texture mods, where one retextures stone and dirt, and the other just stone. You want mod 1's dirt but mod 2's stone. So you let mod 2 win the conflict/overwrite mod 1, and you will have mod 1's dirt and mod 2's stone. Simple hypothetical used as an example.
I've been playing FO4 for 9 years but only got a PC a few years ago. This is my first time modding any game. Every other tutorial sucks in comparison. I know very little...okay probably closer to nothing about computers, and your assumption that the viewer doesn't know anything about computers saved me. Everyone else needs to use this as a template. Great work and thank you so much, man. Even able to navigate it through these stupid meaningless f4se breaking updates Bethesda is doing.
Please don't simply say don't use loot and not give a reason. In MO2, under 'plugins', I have the option to allow LOOT to do the sorting, so that's what I've been doing. How many mods do you consider "alot"? You say "don't use loot to sort your load order"; Is that the same as using the mo2 'sort plugins using loot'' feature? IOW is sorting a load order the same as 'sorting plugins'?
Just a note, the list on the left is used for organizing as well as overwriting different mods. It's very important for solving conflicts between mods. Great video though!
Thank yo so much! I got the mods working for me! Using the Vortex is a pain in my ass because my Vortex launcher refuse to download ANY mods at all every time I use it and I have to manually download the mods the hard way. Thank you so much!
A Very, Valuable Tuturial! I will be keeping, this as a go- too for when I set up my Rig. You made it, as easy to understand as possible. A great job! with this Vid Dak. And it's, Much appreciated my friend. Cheers - Jass.
I've only ever used Vortex (and NMM before that). I guess I've gotten comfortable with it. LOOT built in. But I've noticed I have to compromise what mods I want to use, Vortex never seems to get load order right and it's a pain to manually reorder your plug-ins. Vortex has a "I know best, trust me" problem it seems. Thank you very much for this 🙏 I think I'll be moving to MO2 for my next playthrough. Oh, and use SSD people!
Playing Fallout 4 for the first time. I think we should normalize playing games however you want for the first time. As long as you have fun, that's all that should matter.
Appreciate the video for MO2 as I was considering switching to it when I reinstall FO4 next. Vortex has always been fine for me but the load order organizer is just frustrating and tedious, even when you properly know how to use it. One note though, LOOT is pretty much useless with FO4. It won't even detect basic level conflicts in many cases, you can see this as soon as you open FO4Edit and apply filter by conflicts. I'm assuming you check everything with FO4Edit since you know your stuff but you didn't mention that in that last section which might give people the impression that LOOT is the only tool needed for conflict resolution.
LOOT definitely isn't the only solution lol, but assuming that most people looking up a tutorial are pretty new to modding it can be a useful tool in their arsenal. If it's their first time modding on pc I wouldn't want to send them straight into FO4edit. I may look into more advanced tutorials in the future though, thanks!

Ive never been this lost before. Ive modded this game for years. Took a couple months off. Came back today. Added a few performance mods and weapons. Booted up game with f4se. Instant ctd before loading game. I notice there's a new f4se version. Install it the way I always have/this video says. Boot it up. Nothing. I erase all my saves. Boot up vanilla Fallout 4. Make character. Save. Exit. Go back to M02/F4SE loader. Same constant crashes. I have no idea what's wrong at all! EDIT: I dont know why or how, but its the mod Simplified Sorting. I wanted to swap to it over ACKWR or whatever it is since it always seemed jank with handling modded gear. Removed everything appropriate. No conflicts. Been through Hell with figuring it out, but once I disable Simplified Sorting "it just works".
tip : never copy data folder from f4se to your game folder , it will mess things up for updates . just create a zip file of it and install it as a new mod

This is awesome as I'm going to transition from xbox to pc thanks bro
Even after 4 years, this is still so helpfull and has helped me multiple times! best modding guide!!
Very informative. Thank you! and yes, A stabilization video would be great!
Not a bad video for beginners. I'll have to remember this one for people I know that may have issues with MO2.
Thanks, I was trying to figure out an issue with Vortex before finally giving up. Thanks for the concise and simple tutorial.
Same, vortex really depends on the user so if you are a new it’s difficult to get started since it automatically manages everything so you can’t really change easily some files locations or things like that
Hey Dak,
this video is so helpful. I'm completely new on pc an F4 ist my favorite game so I thought I start modding. Ur video made it actually possible for me. Thanks a lot and greetings from Germany.
thank you very much i can never wrap my head around this kinda stuff i appreciate your soul
8:30 earned my like. Such a good tutorial. I wasnt sure if i should do it, and thought maybe i should chance it with the space i have, since my C drive is small as you said, then you mention it right after lol. great tutorial
Thanks a billion mate, getting Fallout reloaded preparing for Fallout London getting released. Back into the rabbit hole
BethINI would have been a perfect addition to this tutorial as it is another essential tool for the ease of ini tweaks without having to actually open the .ini. Regardless of adding it or not this is a great video.
haven't used that one, that being said I should've mentioned that mo2 has its own ini editor that stores it as a separate copy as a backup
@@DegenerateDak it does have its own ini tweaks ability but bethINI does so much more
Quick tip that I just found out you need to actually load the game up for the first time in steam if you want to the game to appear in your global instance so just open it once get on the main menu and close out. If it still doesn't appear just power your pc on and off again it should appear. Hope this helps someone :)
thanx dude you helped me so much i followed another tutorial on skyrim and missed something and found it here by you ! thanx man
Thank you for the step by step help. I'm jumping back into the game years after beating it. Putting some quality of life mods to my new run 👍
i cant get it to work? my f4se folder wont open HELP!!
amazing video, just watched the show and wanted to get back into this game and this video was a great start, thank you!
Very excellent tutorial! Clear and concise. I, for one, would love to see a tutorial for LOOT as well.
If you have alot of mods installed, then dont use loot to sort your load order! :)
@@myusername00 WTFNOT?
Please don't simply say don't use loot and not give a reason.
In MO2, under 'plugins', I have the option to allow LOOT to do the sorting, so that's what I've been doing.
How many mods do you consider "alot"?
You say "don't use loot to sort your load order"; Is that the same as using the mo2 'sort plugins using loot'' feature?
IOW is sorting a load order the same as 'sorting plugins'?
Just a note, the list on the left is used for organizing as well as overwriting different mods. It's very important for solving conflicts between mods. Great video though!
Valdacil's Item Sorting mod wasn't working for me but setting the data directory saved me some headaches, thanks Dak
Oh, and use SSD people!
really good guide, very well presented, clear and straight to the point. keep up the awesome work m8
Yeah 20 minutes of talking is definitely to the point....
@@HU1212ICAN3 16 minutes actually
great video thanks for all the help this gave returning to Fallout 4 and modding
THANK YOU SO MUCH i was having sm issues and this helped me do a complete reinstall of everythng fresh and properly and it worked!!!
Thorough and detailed guide, thank you so much, helps people who are dumb like me.
I was ready to give up modding... then I found this video
Thank you
I used to use Vortex but the organization is terrible and this one is perfect. Thank you.
Playing Fallout 4 for the first time. I think we should normalize playing games however you want for the first time. As long as you have fun, that's all that should matter.
Thanks man I'm new to all the modding stuff this sure helped me a lot with what to do now
Thank you for this well informed and easy to follow video
I may look into more advanced tutorials in the future though, thanks!
sweet intro lol i just started a new game for the first time in years so that tripped me out
Amazing step by step, you deserve some gamer supps!
This was the tutorial that helped me finally FUCKING finish trying to set up MO2 and Fallout VR after 3 hours and 12 other videos. Thanks a lot bud, very helpful video. Just a little bit pissed that UA-cam decided to show me every video other than yours Lmaooo only way I found it was through FRIK's reddit page
Thank you for your work, this is one of the eaiser to understand Tutorials for a console peasant like I. Didnt know there was so mush admin when it came to PC mods. On PS5 you only get acces to whats on the ingame mode menu
I'd Like to see that Extended Stabilization guide!
Thank you for a nice updated mo2 tut!
Was doing ok downloading and using mods..... until F4SE ..... I never ever would have gotten it installed correctly if not for this vid.... thank you!!
Hey thanks for the tutorial
Hope it’s helpful!
Thanks for the tutorial. really need a video on this topic. Cheers!
Best, most complete, most user friendly MO tute I have come across, and the first to make the transition from Vort doable for tech-inept me. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much I thought it was gonna be complicated but nah this helped so much.
Excellent video - really well explained. Thank you!
tip : never copy data folder from f4se to your game folder , it will mess things up for updates . just create a zip file of it and install it as a new mod
Thanks! I noticed that Dak does this as well (as seen from his load order. He calls it "F4SE Data").
Thanks man big help when I get my pc
Another amazing vid from Dak
this was actually very helpful, thank you
This was a very well made tutorial, very thorough and easy to follow! You get a sub from me for that! Channels that make tutorials easy to follow are a God send honestly!
Thanks for the tutorial Dak, very easy to follow and super usefull!
Great vid, very helpful. If you havent already, I would like to see a LOOT video. Also...if you have FO4VR, I would really look forward to a video focused on that. Still need to get mods working for VR...most especially CHEAT TERMINAL. A tutorial for installing THAT would be GOLD.
This helped me get into modding - Thanks man
Man if only this was available when i started modding
thank you i mod fnv before but with F4 its really different so keep up the good work
Your tutorial, while really detailed and I do thank you for that, has a very misleading title. I was looking for how to create mods for fallout 4 and your title led me to think that's what the video was about. was a little disappointed to find out it wasn't. Still, that aside, awesome job with the step by step instructions. We need more good tutorials like this.
