Beautiful scene, except there are a few changes that would be required to make it more fitting for today's audience. Cornell is going to have to dump the suit and tie for a t-shirt and shorts and sneakers. Tatoos are a must. Let the hair grow long and of course hip men paint their nails today. Gene Tierney needs to put on some pants with holes in it. Dresses are such a legacy of our patriarchal past... And maybe add some combat boots. Got to replace the book and magazine with cell phones. And of course the dialogue needs to be changed. No one talks in complete sentences any more. We are way more expressive today. You need not exaggerate it, but how can any one carry on a conversation without using the f-word at least 2 or 3 times. Otherwise, it's a good scene.
I've gotta tell you, I've seen ALL of her movies, and her beauty is so great that it actually transcends mere color v. black-and-white. Yes, you miss the blue, but the sheer radiance of her facial features makes that nearly inconsequential.
@@janetlieb2507 What a tragic personal life, though. I have this crazy theory that when God grants you such physical beauty, it also has a very high price tag...
If Gene was alive and young at this time, she would have been known as the most beautiful woman alive no doubt. She had such a classic, timeless beauty with perfect symmetry and facial harmony.
She is perfection.I have seen men that don't like Angelina Jolie or Marilyn Monroe(I have yet to figure out why though) but I don't know a single guy who doesn't like Gene.
PERFECTION is absolutely the word. Neither of the above mentioned do anything much for me. But Gene OMG she drives me crazy and I will admit I've got it bad for her. Give me a time machine and I know where I'd go..
I will never understand Angelinas appeal? Especially with those giant lips :/ Not appealing. Marilyn while stunning is overrated. Neither hold a candle to Gene.
@@youandwhosearmy6339 I have it bad for Cornel Wilde!!!! He had to be extraordinarily handsome for gorgeous Tierney to go after him and he sure was and a great actor, too. They were a gorgeous couple.
Well, I love and adore Cornel Wilde and I have a group for him on Facebook. He was so gorgeous and such a great actor! And I also love and adore Gene Tierney and she was also so gorgeous and a great actor. This script is very excellent and LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN is one of the best films ever made. Jeanne Crain is excellent, too , and very beautiful and a terrific actor as well. All the supporting actors were just superb. I love this scene especially on the train!!!!
goodness gracious, gene tierney is absolutely lovely. she’s got very delicate features - almost like a painting - but not fragile. and she has a very nice speaking voice, too.
To this day the most beautiful woman in the history of Hollywood, and a very good actress! Dana Andrews might have been the luckiest actor in "The Golden Age". Scenes with Gene Tierney, Linda Darnell, Jeanne Crain.
Sonny Dave: also she was in a pretty good mystery called "Laura" with Dana Andrews as the police detective Gene Tierney played Laura something or other. and again Clifton Webb is in this one too. an excellent who dunnit.
Yes , that guy is Cornel Wilde and Gene Tierney's expression upon seeing him would be exactly mine !!! I would be blown away!!! Because Cornel Wilde was sooo handsome and charming and beautifully dressed
@stitchgrl777 The female of the species is more deadly than the male, Gene proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt with such a stunning masterclass of a performance....
I think I would've made this movie in black and white instead of Technicolor--would've suited the haunting nature of the story better, in my opinion. Still, it's a great film and a brilliant performance from the beautiful Gene Tierney. To me, she epitomizes the glamour of Old Hollywood.
@ghostlysea Where can I get the DVD you are refering to I would love to hear Hickmans comments, the DVD I have at the moment is part of a compilation, not the restored version, set of Genes movies which includes Laura, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir,Thunderbirds and Tobacco Road. The Laura DVD has some great info on the making of the movie, would appreciate your help.
@ghostlysea Thanks do you think the exact same DVD set is available on on line to purchase that is..I wonder why there was so much disquite making the movie
Ok, yes, she is so stunning it's hard to believe *she's* pursuing *him*. Seriously. But I know that's not the point. She's the main character of this story.
It isn't hard for me to believe that she is pursuing him at all. I would be pursuing Cornel Wilde, too, and I never pursue men as they always pursue me !!!
hi, the song is called "it was in a night in June"...don't know if it was ever recorded, but the same tune is heard in the background of fox films Apartment for Peggy and With a Song in my Heart as well as Dodsworth (not a Fox film, but scored by Alfred Newman)
TheLastProzacNation I know I’m to late to reply if you’re reading this it’s because today’s Hollywood has a liberal agenda that they love to shove up our throat
I consider Gene Tierney one of the most beautiful women ever!

Gene Tierney was a very great actor!!! And incredibly beautiful, too

This movie is beautifully filmed. The colours, the richness. So stylish. Everything.
They sure did have some stunningly gorgeous women back then.
I agree. 1940s fashion sometimes didn’t look good, but when it did work, women never looked more beautiful, ever.
💙💙💙💙💙
Imagine walking into an incredible railroad lounge car like the one here and finding Gene Tierney sitting there. That would be a real experience.
Well , quite frankly I would be blown away if I found Cornel Wilde sitting there on the train!!! That would be the chance of a lifetime!!
As much as I have been looking for someone like her on the Amtrak, alas, no luck so far.

The eyes of gene as cool and deep and blue as the lake she drowns Danny in.

Frankly, I think that the hottest actor was Cornel Wilde seen here in this scene on the train with Gene Tierney in LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN!!!
Lmao I knew she was crazy the minute she started staring his soul down like that.
Ellen was a psychopath and a killer. Tierney struggled with mental illness for real.
Not crazy. He looks like her fathet!

The fact that she said, "You look like my Father(stares lovingly.)"

The film was aiming for hyper reality and not the typical grit of noir. This more of a fairy tale noir.
I couldn't disagree more! Color was needed to capture the beauty of the outdoors scenes.
Yes , and so does Cornel Wilde. Really I can't see this film being as successful in black and white because the scenery is so stunningly beautiful!
