The forced landings after jumps don’t only apply to Sky-High Sundae. In the collision model every trickable surface has a “high-gravity” option which is commonly used in 200cc to avoid the player leaving the lap path and getting accidentally picked up by Lakitu. However, it is especially noticeable in Sky-High Sundae because of the Underwater Gravity. The other 2 maps with underwater gravity (Mute City and Big Blue) don’t use the high-gravity feature much, which is why the large jump at the end of Mute City allows you to go really far. And about the gliding, yeah I agree. The glider path in Mushroom Gorge is specifically set to try and place you down right at the end of the cave. At least they edited the lap path to allow the gap jump
Also something they updated: physics for the flags in New York minute. In Tokyo drift they were just a still, not moving, object. I hope they go back and change some physics/ textures from wave 1
I'm not as much of a fan of what they did with Waluigi Pinball. There was so much potential with this track-a fan favorite from the series-that they could've made use of. The absence of anti-gravity is mind-boggling; it would have fit so perfectly. The lighting also seems quite off in certain places, and while the textures definitely look smooth and clean, they're not at the level of detail that the base game has made me come to expect. Also, the reuse of the Wario Stadium song just... hurts. It's a good rendition, sure, but it just wasn't built for this track at all. It's clear that the retro tracks in this DLC are REMASTERS, whereas the retro tracks in the base game were REMAKES, built from the ground-up with new mechanics and twists. That's a crucial distinction to make that I feel a lot of people overlook. This is just... the same Waluigi Pinball we all know very well by now. I really feel Nintendo took the easiest and laziest way out with this DLC.
From how much praise I keep seeing Waluigi Pinball getting, sometimes I feel like I'm in the minority when I think the lighting is off for a lot of the stage. Glad to see I'm not alone on that. The lack of a remix too is also just such a huge bummer. The sound team for the game even stated that MK8's Wario Stadium remix was arranged specifically to fit Wario, focusing on bombastic beats over emphasizing the melody. Yeah it still fits Waluigi Pinball to an extent, but it's not as great as it could be. I honestly think the unremixed DS & MK7 versions fit more. Wario Stadium has that extreme sports, stadium feel to it. While Waluigi Pinball should definitely have more of an arcade-y feel to it.
I agree about the lighting, Waluigi Pinball in DS used mainly blues and purples, with the lights being in the background. This new Waluigi Pinball now looks more like a Las Vegas casino and I don't like it. I also hate the new Waluigi cutout passionately. I don't like it being just 2D art, I like it being a 3D image turned into a cutout. The new one also just doesn't look like it belongs. Yeah, the blind love Waluigi Pinball (and most other tracks in the DLC) has been getting is embarrassing. People's standards are so low that a they'll accept what looks like a mobile phone game in their AAA console Nintendo game.
am genuinely glad that i'm not the only person that noticed the coconut mall cars doing donuts and the Sky High Sunday antigrav being a bit weird. the dumbest part is that on the Tour version, those rail walls are actually walls, making you have to consider what side you take lest you bump into it. like the first time i bumped into those rail walls, i literally was so confused and i fell off the track due to the boost. it's weird how they don't at least have a blue glow to them or something. the reason i think your reviews of these DLCs are pretty great so far is that you actually notice all of these important details which i heavily respect, as most people don't really do that.
I like sky high sundae's low gravity which allows for clutch saves if you fall of high up by holding back, similar to mute city only for its one shortcut
My favorite thing is that Tony instantly states the answer if that’s what the viewer cares about, but there’s the rest of the video if you want the depth
I thing people should stop complaining about Waluigi Pinball and Wario Stadium having the excact same theme in MK8DX. I mean come on. They also had the excact same theme in MKDS and no one complains about that. So please stop trying to find things to complain about.
There was probably little difference in the graphical textures between the packs, but I personally think that second pack looks way better! Also, I don’t see many people talking about this, but the color palettes of the tracks, which applies to both passes look way better than the originals! It’s looks way more colorful and vibrant than the original! And I like the tracks themselves!
Personally, I feel like the saturated colors of the booster course pass looks worse. It gives the tracks even more of a cartoony/plastic feel. That's just my opinion though.
1:11 fun fact: this "dynamic challenge" is almost non existing in Wii too. Only the first car can present a challenge as the secon and third car only move on half of the road: the second goes from right to middle and the third goes from left to middle (and viceversa for both of them), meaning that you can use the same strategy in both games. And if you say that the dash panels can give you a risk and reward challenge, you can just use them if the cars aren't there or, you know, not use them?
Only other shortcut as oddly unforgiving for an obvious shortcut is ice ice outpost which forces a strange line - but even that map is supposed to be tougher.
I wish the 2d sprites were modified to have brown edges and were thickened just slightly and had silver rods in their spine (a covid reference to when cardboard cutouts got out in stadiums)
LMAO I love the cold open cutting to the chase. Reminds me of Dunkey. I really wish people led videos with their honest opinions like that more! I can concede Skyhigh Sundae isn't perfect, but I largely enjoy it. I love the vibrant colors, the narrow paths, and how the gravity mechanic makes you feel like you're basically flying for half the time. I think an easy fix would be to make the first half regular track, but once you enter that death drop it goes gravity for the rest of the course. It would neatly fix the rail colliding issue and preserve that flying feel I'm talking about! Love how the wafer ramps and ice trays feel. Also idk if this is a humble brag but I've had no trouble with the final shortcut in Snow Land. No trouble that didn't seem to be just user error on my part lol.
Great video! My thoughts on the Booster Pass is similar to how I felt about Smash Ultimate DLC. The choices might be questionable and the quality might be mixed, but there is SO much fun content already in these games that more of it is only a good thing!
Honestly, at this point, having lots of “scrimblo bimblos” or whatever this type of character is probably not that viable for Smash DLC in general anyway because their animations and body structure are not as easily replicatable to future characters, which would have a much lower budget than the base game Ironically the booster course pass may have the opposite complaint, where the artstyle is the more simplified, pure “scrimblo bimblo” you’d expect from the main Mario series, as opposed to the more realistic style in 8, whereas in Smash, most of the newer characters, especially the DLC ones, are more realistic/anime than the other characters
Something I realized is that the tracks are not so much “REMADE” like Base 8 tracks (and to a less extent complete changes like the GBA tracks) as they’re more of REMASTERS, which means no matter what, NONE of the tracks will EVER look as good as Base 8. That’s not a bad thing, just something I tonight I’d point out.
Just to say about coconut Mall's new moving cars: The donuts, while they don't cover as much area as moving back and forth cars do, are generally larger and more unpredictable when actually playing If you're time trialing both hazards don't represent much of a challenge honestly, but during more casual/item based races both versions of the hazards can hit and cost you Basically what I'm saying is while they're done a different way it is functionally the same in actual play for the most part imo just my thoughts on it (also admittedly prefer the donuts makes it feel exciting and never was a fan of the back and forth they just always looked off and out of place to me)
I just wish they’d add anti-gravity to ANY of the returning tracks Waluigi Pinball would have been a GREAT opportunity for it I understand it wouldn’t work for every track but for none of them? Nah they’re just lazy
actually, the blue mushroom was in mario kart 7, and it is not a new addition. Also, Sky High Sundae Came out in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe before tour, so technically not a tour track...
I swear I've seen those audience textures from mario and sonic at the winter Olympics game from 2009 crazy to think that they are still using the same stuff or a simmilar variant
The funniest thing about the new DLC is every time a wave comes out everyone is talking about it non stop for like 3 days, and then everyone goes silent until the next one is announced. Well, apart from the people who went insane about no Pass 2 about a week before Pass 2 was announced, which was pretty convenient timing.
things i’ve learned from this video: this man can’t make the intended bridge shortcut and no one should tell him about the actual shortcut on that level he also apparently uses motion controls to trick i agree with most of the points but for me it’s the snow land and mushroom gorge mega shortcuts that make this pass
What I liked about Mario Kart 7 was that with sufficient skill/mushrooms, you could stay in the air while gliding for FAR longer than you'd think. Gliding in Mario Kart 8 feels entirely scripted. "THE GLIDING SECTION HAS FINISHED, BACK TO YOUR WHEELS, PEASANT!"
Is bad to say I enjoyed mario circuit 3? Dont get me wrong, it definitely pales in comparison to the other tracks in the game and booster course pass with its lack of threatening hazards and more basic layouts, but it’s definitely more fun than toads circuit ever will be. The layouts still somewhat enjoyable too. Especially on 200cc.
I don't think it's a good track online mainly because the shortcuts are really broken and it's definitely a track where whoever has the power items at the end can pull ahead really easily but it's a really simple track (not in a bad way, simple tracks need to exist in this game to balance out the other tracks) and it's fun to do time trials on, just feels very smooth the entire way.
The reason the waluigi pinball texture is wool is because it’s a re-used texture from ribbon road. Instead of having no textures like pass one, now we get this, still incredibly lazy.
They should spin more often. Since they cover the middle and are quite large, if they spun more often it would make the challenge of having to stay at the edge of the wall which isn't so easy
One thing I really don't like is the lazy port of the wario stadium sound track for waluigi pinball. It just doesn't fit since the remix is meant to fit wario stadium (which it does very well).
Regarding Coconut Mall's cars, Barin Ruins and Android Alley from Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled did the left-right obstacles better. Sure, they're not as challenging as Wii's original (you can skin Android Alley's cleaning robots), but at least it was an obstacle.
Overall this is a massive improvement, but the Music definitely took a hit. Waluigi Pinball just uses the Wario Stadium song and the remixes for SNES Mario Circuit 3 and Mushroom Gorge are pretty much the original songs. There are still bangers like Sydney Sprint, but nothing here even comes close to Shroom Ridge
As cool as it was for Waluigi Pinball to be there, it would've been cool to have its remix from Super Smash Bros Brawl be used/updated as to differentiate it from Wario Stadium Also would be willing to pay for additional characters, karts, bikes, and gliders too. Seriously, Mario Kart 8's rosters is only slightly better than Mario Kart 7's roster IMO. Another thing is that I'm bummed that we aren't getting tracks from the Arcade games even if Namco made them since Nintendo and Bandai Namco do work together. Would've been down to have had Kingdom Way from GP DX in place of Toad Circuit or Mario Circuit 3
If we're bringing up the "Anti-gravity levels ought to be going upside-down and all that," then might I point out Baby Park? I personally have never been a huge fan of that level ("It's just a circle!"), but I've seen the counterarguments, and I think they are valid criticisms. However, if we're gonna compare Baby Park and Sky-High Sundae as *the* anti-gravity Mario Kart 8 tracks without upside-down moments, I personally prefer the artstyle of Baby Park, but the gameplay of Sky-High Sundae.
I don't know what game is Sky High Sundae supposed to belong to, the visuals on Switch are downgraded to be like it's a Tour track but Booster Course 2 came out earlier than the tour.
I find pretty weird how much people use Donut Plain as an example of how a SNES MK8 track should look like because it's probably the base 8 track I have seen beeing called ugly looking the most.
That booser pass was a complete waste of money. Almost every time a new track comes up in the lobby, at least one or two losers vote some old track and that's what gets chosen. I never get to play the new ones. There should be a separate lobby for these people who didn't buy that Pass.
@@WritingCountingOriginal I said absolutely nothing about how they played and I never said they looked awful, I simply hate the art style of MKTour in comparison to base MK8.

at 4:30 those models look like they were from the Mario and sonic games on the wii. they also don't look the the models in 8
Great video! Honestly I just think it's weird Sky high Sundae has underwater physics
Ikr
I thing people should stop complaining about Waluigi Pinball and Wario Stadium having the excact same theme in MK8DX. I mean come on. They also had the excact same theme in MKDS and no one complains about that. So please stop trying to find things to complain about.
No
Ikr. People (especially young people in gen z) just want to complain
The grass patches in Kalimari Desert are from cheese land in the base game.
I actually love Mario Circuit 3, it's hella fun to make those turns on 200cc!
Agreed! Time trials is surprisingly enjoyable. I’m at 1:08.9
MC3: Fun to drive on, but _really_ not a fan of the color choices.
bro just called the SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE an AUDITORIUM
There was probably little difference in the graphical textures between the packs, but I personally think that second pack looks way better! Also, I don’t see many people talking about this, but the color palettes of the tracks, which applies to both passes look way better than the originals! It’s looks way more colorful and vibrant than the original! And I like the tracks themselves!
Personally, I feel like the saturated colors of the booster course pass looks worse. It gives the tracks even more of a cartoony/plastic feel. That's just my opinion though.
Fun fact: the nitro tracks are originally in 8, thereafter they're put into tour
I like how you are forced down on Sky High Sunday. Feels like a roller coaster.
Only other shortcut as oddly unforgiving for an obvious shortcut is ice ice outpost which forces a strange line - but even that map is supposed to be tougher.
I’ve never heard someone call the Sydney Opera House as an ‘Auditorium’ let along not know WHAT the Sydney Opera House is
silok is going to endlessly be mocked by his aussie audience for that one.
by the way, as an aussie i am pissed off.
Bro forgot the Sydney opera house 💀
Really surprised when you answered the question in the first 5 seconds
Actually, Sky-High Sundae is a MK8D original, it isn't originally from Tour, but it is or will be (sorry, I don't play Tour.)
Wow until you made the comparisons between the SNES circuits I did not realize how bad the one in the Booster Pass looks
Great video! My thoughts on the Booster Pass is similar to how I felt about Smash Ultimate DLC. The choices might be questionable and the quality might be mixed, but there is SO much fun content already in these games that more of it is only a good thing!
Honestly, at this point, having lots of “scrimblo bimblos” or whatever this type of character is probably not that viable for Smash DLC in general anyway because their animations and body structure are not as easily replicatable to future characters, which would have a much lower budget than the base game
Ironically the booster course pass may have the opposite complaint, where the artstyle is the more simplified, pure “scrimblo bimblo” you’d expect from the main Mario series, as opposed to the more realistic style in 8, whereas in Smash, most of the newer characters, especially the DLC ones, are more realistic/anime than the other characters
4:57 bro they be looking like f*cking Mr game and watch
Something I realized is that the tracks are not so much “REMADE” like Base 8 tracks (and to a less extent complete changes like the GBA tracks) as they’re more of REMASTERS, which means no matter what, NONE of the tracks will EVER look as good as Base 8. That’s not a bad thing, just something I tonight I’d point out.
hehe, auto-correct from "thought" to "tonight" :)))))
@@CarMedicine ahhh good’ol annoying autocorrect, never ceases to make me laugh XD
Yep your observations are correct.
i got stuck in a slope on waluigi pinball once. that never happened to me before.
Can we appreciate the fact that he got straight to the point
honestly im just glad its preserving tour tracks, and where basically getting a "mario kart all-stars"
Just to say about coconut Mall's new moving cars:
The donuts, while they don't cover as much area as moving back and forth cars do, are generally larger and more unpredictable when actually playing
If you're time trialing both hazards don't represent much of a challenge honestly, but during more casual/item based races both versions of the hazards can hit and cost you
Basically what I'm saying is while they're done a different way it is functionally the same in actual play for the most part imo just my thoughts on it (also admittedly prefer the donuts makes it feel exciting and never was a fan of the back and forth they just always looked off and out of place to me)
8:36
I think he just predicted the release date perfectly.
Am I the only one who loves the cartoony artstyle of the booster course pass?
No. I like it too
Be careful. You may trigger jealous adult kids who enjoy games for their graphics 😂
I have no idea how anyone sees any problem with these. They all look great
for some reason the wii tracks looks smaller, at least for me it feels that way
I just wish they’d add anti-gravity to ANY of the returning tracks
Waluigi Pinball would have been a GREAT opportunity for it
I understand it wouldn’t work for every track but for none of them? Nah they’re just lazy
4:35 Immersion killed, but two packs earlier. But then again you don't really notice this on your first run through the course.
actually, the blue mushroom was in mario kart 7, and it is not a new addition. Also, Sky High Sundae Came out in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe before tour, so technically not a tour track...
Look at the graphics though, the track was clearly based from Tour made for it to be on Tour
I swear I've seen those audience textures from mario and sonic at the winter Olympics game from 2009 crazy to think that they are still using the same stuff or a simmilar variant
I'm glad to hear that you're doing well. I still think about when you said you lost your job after a car accident... I was curious about you
4:38 thought I was the only one who had an issue with this
The blue glider mushroom is from the mario kart 7 mushroom gouger
The funniest thing about the new DLC is every time a wave comes out everyone is talking about it non stop for like 3 days, and then everyone goes silent until the next one is announced. Well, apart from the people who went insane about no Pass 2 about a week before Pass 2 was announced, which was pretty convenient timing.
things i’ve learned from this video:
this man can’t make the intended bridge shortcut and no one should tell him about the actual shortcut on that level
he also apparently uses motion controls to trick
i agree with most of the points but for me it’s the snow land and mushroom gorge mega shortcuts that make this pass
This madlad defied clickbait by requiring the viewer to watch until 0:00 to get the title's answer
I don't think it's a good track online mainly because the shortcuts are really broken and it's definitely a track where whoever has the power items at the end can pull ahead really easily but it's a really simple track (not in a bad way, simple tracks need to exist in this game to balance out the other tracks) and it's fun to do time trials on, just feels very smooth the entire way.
the gap jump can still be done in mushroom gorge same with that shortcut with those 2 mushrooms
The reason the waluigi pinball texture is wool is because it’s a re-used texture from ribbon road. Instead of having no textures like pass one, now we get this, still incredibly lazy.
I’m just grateful we have Waluigi pinball in general.
One day they'll hopefully update the game to give the option to remove the timer for balloon battle and make balloon battle mode actually fun
Nintendo should make a track based on bourbon street in New Orleans
Huh, handled that question in 2 seconds flat
6:35 this was actually from Mario Kart 7
Basically, Wave 2 gets a ‘You tried.’ medal.
They need to fix the scaling of the glider section in coconut mall, still. It’s too tight
That was definitely a way to get to the point at the start
I have never failed the bridge ramp
The fabric reminds me of trampoline material, in which case boing!
I love it when this guy uploads
6:30 Why is there a question mark there?
As cool as it was for Waluigi Pinball to be there, it would've been cool to have its remix from Super Smash Bros Brawl be used/updated as to differentiate it from Wario Stadium
Also would be willing to pay for additional characters, karts, bikes, and gliders too.
Rest in peace Snow Panic and Bananan Ruins
If we're bringing up the "Anti-gravity levels ought to be going upside-down and all that," then might I point out Baby Park? I personally have never been a huge fan of that level ("It's just a circle!"), but I've seen the counterarguments, and I think they are valid criticisms. However, if we're gonna compare Baby Park and Sky-High Sundae as *the* anti-gravity Mario Kart 8 tracks without upside-down moments, I personally prefer the artstyle of Baby Park, but the gameplay of Sky-High Sundae.
Really excited to see the future of the DLC packs!
Oh man I wish they would have worked the graphics up to MK8 basegame level. The new maps have so comic looking textures and geometry...
6:40 didn’t think it
Loved the fact I got the answer on the 1st second of the video xD
They didn't add the blue glider it existed in the 3DS
I... Never failed the snow land shortcut?
Listen, at least the cars are moving in Connut Mall, not completely corectly, but stil are moving
I don't know what game is Sky High Sundae supposed to belong to, the visuals on Switch are downgraded to be like it's a Tour track but Booster Course 2 came out earlier than the tour.
You can’t go through the poles in Tour, which is weird.
I find pretty weird how much people use Donut Plain as an example of how a SNES MK8 track should look like because it's probably the base 8 track I have seen beeing called ugly looking the most.
Wasn't the blue mushroom in MK7's Mushroom Gorge?
6:35 their is a blue Mushroom in Mario kart 7
That booser pass was a complete waste of money. Almost every time a new track comes up in the lobby, at least one or two losers vote some old track and that's what gets chosen. I never get to play the new ones. There should be a separate lobby for these people who didn't buy that Pass.
7:28 I don’t think they wanted to do that
Hope your move goes OK. Good luck.
Wait, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Sky-High Sundae a brand new track and not from Mario Kart Tour?
It was clearly made for Tour, it just was in MK8DX first. So imo its from tour. It came into tour a few days after MK8DX.
@@octarian2697 Ah, yeah I see what you mean, okay thanks.
I still hate the booster pass more MKTour art style, the game looked much better on base MK8
So what? The dlc tracks look good anyways, they don’t look awful.
Be grateful the tracks play well.
@@WritingCountingOriginal I said absolutely nothing about how they played and I never said they looked awful, I simply hate the art style of MKTour in comparison to base MK8.
@@reddemon_6408 if it’s not so big a deal then there was no point in you typing your comment in the first place :p
@@WritingCountingOriginal Never said it was a big deal but hey some people don’t know how to make an argument without assumptions. And about my comment not being necessary well your reply even less so, and I’m really sorry about whatever it is you lack in life that you feel the need to be an online troll just but hey you do you.
sky high sundae isn't a tour map, its original to the booster pack
It’s made for Tour obviously.
I want your opinion on wave 3 I think they tried even harder but still not enough
Its weird that no one's talking about the actual looks of sky high sundae, its just ice cream floating in the middle of nowhere. i wish they did some theming around an ice cream shop or something rather than just putting random models in the sky.
Sky high sundae was original to 8 deluxe and was added to tour after
Like a week after, courses don't get made in a week. It was already going to be added to both versions from the beginning, yet Tour's textures are being used in 8 DX
@@livinlikeeli6785 oh yeah I’m aware of that I’m just saying it came out first on deluxe
@@ryancoombs3677 I don't think it's wrong to consider it a Tour track even despite the release timing because it was clearly made and planned for Tour with that basis being what got ported to 8 DX
I love you. You are a true reviewer. Everyone is pretending to be so excited and satisfied by this piece of crap ( the dlc). Only you are pointing out how lazy and bad it is.
No one is prenteding to be excited and satisfied by the dlc, they actually are. People just rather not be nitpicky crybabies like you about it’s problem. If you think a “true reviewer” is complaining and criticizing things you don’t personally like than go to a different channel because this isn’t it.
@@quangamershyguyyz7166 so you mean he is really anylitic I love the second wave but i can say it still doesnt look as good as the base game p.s. you can still do the gap jump and double mushroom cut
@@quangamershyguyyz7166 sorry but fans have created far better DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe than Nintendo, it's called CTGP Deluxe, which is a collection of custom tracks made by fans, and these fanmade tracks look far better than the Booster Pass tracks, fans do what Nintendon't, FANGAME MASTERRACE for the win.
@@quangamershyguyyz7166 woah calm down mate, don't get too angry being a nintendo braindead fan. Stop liking your own comment btw🤣
@Quangamer ShyGuyyz a true reviewer is someone who thinks critically, not people who see flaws and downgrades as nothing. If you see people pointing out things Nintendo should improve to be nit-picking maybe you should leave this channel instead since this channel is not known to be a fanboy of Nintendo but a channel that provide independent critics.
You can jump over the gap in 200 just like normal not with the glider tho
straight to the answer i love this so much
