I am so appreciative that you recognize all that happens on the production side of things. It takes me a lot less time to create a production if I do all parts myself, so that's what I did on this one, taking only a couple weeks. You are absolutely correct in saying that Tori naturally has a sound that is similar to the great Karen Carpenter. She is not trying to be her, but her beautiful pitch-perfect alto tone suits her performances of these great tunes. Tori Holub in her own naturel voice sounds the most identical on this one. This song has always been my favoorite Carpenter song from the Lovers and Other Strangers movie soundtrack. What a powerful tribute from James and Tori. In the seventies while in my teens, I was not really a Carpenters fan but Tori's smokey velvety smooth contralto and James brilliance have added a whole new dimension to these songs. They are faithful, neturel yet more upscale to the original causing me to go back and revisit the whole Carpenter catalogue. When Tori and Jim end up on Virgin Vinyl, I will be first in line. Frank you got it right! Tori makes you go back and look at or rediscover the music you may have let slide. For me it was Heart and Joni that she brought back to me. The ones that barely listen and immediately write her off, just are missing the boat. Their loss. Happy New Year! Joe
Maria, Wonderful reaction to Tori's and Jim's latest performance. I agree with you in that I love anything she sings, but something special hits me about the Carpenter songs. And to address any of the doubters, she does not try to sound like Karen. That is her natural voice. I'm sure all of us are eagerly awaiting what she is going to do in 2025! Happy New Year!
I agree, Tori has a wonderful voice and an sound like Karen. I do think when she performs a Carpenter song Tori does adjusts her voice to sound nearer to Karen's tone but also uses that characteristics crack in her voice that Karen used a lot. If you listen to Tori sing an Olivia Newton John song it sounds like Oliver and nothing like Karen. Tori is a very good mimic.

Every song she sings someone says she sounds like Karen, if it’s her lower register. She respects the music and honors the original whether male or female she’s covering. She’s covered a lot of Beatles music and doesn’t sound like John, Paul, George or even Ringo.

I heard it before I saw it and thought it was Karen. I had to go watch the original video to align my brain. Tori just nailed this one more than many, her velvet tones just wrap you in a warm blanket by the fire with a hot cocoa. Beautiful reaction and home review. I know what you mean. And PUPPY! It's actually a cover of a cover. ;-) Larry Meredith originally sang the Oscar-winning tune, then the Carpenters, and now Tori. (Of course, many others have covered this song, including Shirley Bassey back then.)
