    Any time you get a lot of round parts to weld, a turntable is a huge help...not only do the parts look better but it takes less time to weld the parts.
    In this video, I am just using a Tig Finger to lightly rest my hand next to the weld.
    In a future video, I will show these parts being welded on a welding lathe with a air actuated tail stock and torch holder.
    I was using an air cooled 17 style torch that is rated at 150 amps and man did it get hot after about a few welds because I was pushing it hard at 170-190 amps.

    Been using Tig finger XL for about a year now, started using it on my left hand for Mig too and it is a real life saver especially if you are doing long continuous welds.

    Thanks as always Jody, your videos have help many of us through time. I am about ready to step up to the plate and try an inverter machine but my tried and true Syncrowave 200 and my Syncrowave 500 have been bullet proof dependable machines. I can't count the number of torches I have smoked with the 500 even water cooled ones but what a beast. Now that I have closed shop and don't need them I still have both in my garage (put the wife's new suburban out) and do smaller jobs with my limited power supply. Thanks for showing us the CK line as I have a water cooled 250 amp flex-loc torch on it for small use now.

    You make TIG welding look so easy. I really wanna thank you for sharing your knowledge about welding to all of us.
    Keep up the good work.

    Cool setup. Reminds me of an auto tig I used to run back around 2003. We hard faced oil rig parts with Inconel. Filler was fed from a spool through a piece of copper tubing mounted to the end of the torch. Pretty much like those tip-tig torches.

    I have been doing some research, looking to get my first tig welder and the APH alpha tig 200x has been coming up a lot.....I have found that this machine is probably going to be my introduction to tig welding. Good video.

      I've had the AHP for a couple years. I'm very impressed. I've pushed it pretty hard for a homeowner. Aluminum, stainless, aluminum on a 120V extension cord, etc. It has never let me down. I bought it on Amazon for their very liberal return policies. I haven't needed to return it though......

    I've got ahold of an old Southbend 9 " turning lathe recently. I'm going to convert it to use a DC treadmill motor cause that has variable speed control. And that's got me thinking what i can do to REALLY slow it down. And what else i need to do to be able to weld on it. :)

    Great video Jody. Here's a question I posted in the comments for your video on the Lincoln Square Wave 200: If it was your money, which of these two machines would you buy? The Lincoln Square Wave 200 or the AHP AlphaTig 200X?

    Jody, you featured a brass hammer you made during one of your videos. It seemed like you brazed each of the faces of it and stick welded the beads on the handle. what did you use on the face of it?

    When "walking the cup" is not allowed, is that only on ceramic cups and only due to the effects on surface finish? If glass or other material is used that won't effect surface finish would it then be allowed?

    • @TXHeat1776
      @TXHeat1776 8 років тому +2

      I've heard of people having serious problems trying to walk a Pyrex cup - as in, the glass melted on them.

    • @Bespoke-metal-fabrications
      @Bespoke-metal-fabrications 8 років тому +1

      +Joseph Dunn I gotta agree on this, walking the cup with pyrex cups is also, I find, way more difficult because the pyrex has very little surface friction and it just tends to wiggle in the same place without moving forwards.

    • @AlamarianJ
      @AlamarianJ 8 років тому

      If you aren't allowed to walk the cup because it would scratch the material and you can find a way to do it without scratching, that would probably be fine. It's something you would want to clear with your customer, boss, test supervisor or whatever.
      Sometimes you aren't allowed to walk the cup because an employer is testing your ability to freehand. There are times when you don't have room for "chicken-wingin'", as some old timers would say. You can't get around this one.

    • @swedesruleallothers
      @swedesruleallothers 8 років тому

      There are mainly two reasons walking the cup is not allowed. Surface finish as you have already stated and an increased HAZ (heat affected zone). When you walk the cup you usually end up with a big HAZ value becasue of the slow travel speed. Stringer's on the other hand are much faster thus giving you a lower HAZ. The reason it is a problem with having a large HAZ is because when welding, if you give the material enough heat the crystal structure can change making the material pretty much useless. If the structure changes you are going to lose the properties of the metal, and you more than likely chose the material you are welding for those specific properties. Just follow the WPS and you'll be fine. If there is a maximum weave width specified you may not be allowed to walk the cup.
