FINDING GEM OPAL ALL DAY at this mine in Nevada | Royal Peacock Opal Mine

- We are on a rockhounding road trip in the Western part of the USA and in this video we visit the Royal Peacock Opal Mine. This mine is located in the Virgin Valley in the state of Nevada. Join Dominik as he digs through untouched earth to find precious and valuable Opal gems. At this mine, you can also find ancient wood that is really neat.
Finding the Opals was easy yet it was challenging to extract them correctly and intact. We only had a limited time here and were not able to be as patient as maybe necessary. If you come to visit this mine, I would recommend to bring some sort of precision tools and chisels to extract the Opals patiently and carefully. Good luck!

"The most spectacular black opals in the world come from the Royal Peacock mines in Virgin Valley, Nevada. Virgin Valley opals are found in layers of clay that were formed when volcanic ash filled an ancient lake millions of years ago. The surrounding forests were also choked with the ash. The lake had twigs and limbs and rotting wood collected in its coves. The buried wood decayed and left lifelike cavities as mementos of their presence.
Heat and pressure formed a silica gel that percolated through the ash and filled the cavities. It gradually hardened into opal. In a small percentage of the opals the cells aligned to create opals with a fiery soul -- precious black opals -- the most beautiful gemstones in the known universe.
Of course, not all Virgin Valley opals are "black." We also produce moss opal, lemon opal, crystal opal, and white opal. Additionally, we are the only known source for fluorescent opal, which fluoresces green when illuminated with black light."

hello Congratulation on your success in digging for Gems and Opals from 🇹🇭 fans page Thailand🇹🇭
It was great meeting you at Wegner and now you make me want to go to Nevada. Great video
You should go. I find excellent stuff every year there.
Lindas !
Always wanted to go there (I;m on Cape Cod) but a screwed up hip replacement has made any mineral collecting a thing of the past. You found some really nice specimens.....so are you going to have them cut into gems?????? There were some really nice pieces with great color and I'll bet they would look great in a ring.
Very nice pieces!!
Thank you!
Lapidadas são maravilhosas.
oOo what FUN!
You did well
I was super surprised
It’s a great location and the mine owners are wonderful
Highly recommend it
While you are in Lake county Oregon looking for sunstones you should check out the red october fire opal mine. Search youtube for terrapin rocks.
❤
🤗🍀
👍
Are you going back this season?
No, it will be a while before I head back.
$190 a day per person, but if you can find some good specimens it might be worth it.
Ouch!
75 for tailings/the big rock piles
Soak in water. Then dry it out slowly. It will craze and be not cutting grade, or even polish grade. Worthless right? Nope. Virgin valley opal can be stable for cutting. If you find one that stays intact. Then polish that bad boy.
If it cracks and falls apart, sift out the dust and use the colorful chips for inlay work 😉.
Awesome video. Subscriber here.
Thanks for the insight and thanks for the support!
This year at the royal peacock alot of people were calling that wood mummified wood and i think thats a perfect name for it lol. Whats crazy is... That wood is upwards of 14 million years old and you can legit burn it in a fire still. Ive been keeping alot of that wood to burn as incense. 14 million year old incense. It smells dusty but i like it.
Dang that’s crazy. I’ll have to try that
That’s hilarious, dusty incense! Haha
My quartz wall just opened.. jackpot.
It's today i am 250 km away .hoping no-one jumps in.jumper tarp and water botles in hole

Nice finds, to quote the crystal collector WWHHAATT ?
Hello! I am soon going to the Opal mine. does anyone have possible tips?
Be careful and take your time once you uncover one
That’s my best advice
Buy these rough gems from miners & have it cut from gem cutters and get it made into beautiful jewelries.
We could help you if you need assistant.
What's your wish? You could tell us what the pieces are worth, or a good estim
pls more emerald hollow mine
Yes one day again.
John Siefke is digging good stuff up there almost daily. He is on Facebook and shares his finds. 💎

OK helo
Hi!
It's not petrified because it's not millions of years old, the earth is flat and not much older than a few thousand years.
Your video says gem opal, then you immediately say specimen!!! Big difference and very misleading
Not sure that I am aware of the difference. No harm intended.
