- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Emotional intelligence expert Daniel Goleman explains why EQ is crucial for leadership success and how it can be developed at any age. In this talk, he covers the four domains of emotional intelligence-self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management-and their impact on leadership effectiveness and team dynamics.
Goleman emphasizes that while IQ may get you into leadership roles, emotional intelligence is what sets outstanding leaders apart. He shares practical examples illustrating how emotionally intelligent leaders inspire, motivate, and drive team performance.

About Daniel Goleman:
Daniel Goleman is a former science journalist for the New York Times and co-founder of the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning at the Yale University Child Studies Center (now at the University of Illinois, at Chicago). His 1995 book, Emotional Intelligence (Bantam Books) was on The New York Times bestseller list for a year and a half.
Goleman is also the author of Ecological Intelligence: How Knowing the Hidden Impacts of What We Buy Can Change Everything. The book argues that new information technologies will create “radical transparency,” allowing us to know the environmental, health, and social consequences of what we buy. As shoppers use point-of-purchase ecological comparisons to guide their purchases, market share will shift to support steady, incremental upgrades in how products are made - changing every thing for the better.
His other books include Optimal and Altered Traits.
I have just overcame an addiction and started therapy for the second time and rather than going on antidepressants again, I decided to start educating myself on emotional intelligence; i.e. the trans theoretical model, addictions, mental disorders, attachment styles, Shadow Work, and even philosophy beliefs such as the Ethics of Ambiguity. I cannot emphasize how insightful and understanding I feel now of myself and other people and why we do, say, act the way we do. With AI enhancing I’m sure it will be a matter of time before it takes over society, but having emotional intelligence will be one of the most valuable skillsets someone can have. Thank you so much for this video
Good for you ❤ the way out is through
The episode about bus driver Govan Brown made me tear up. Being a homebody with only a few friends to hang out with occasionally, I still feel that people are the biggest motivator and driver of one's cause in life. Generosity and kindness are ultimately the only gifts we can give each other to make the world brighter.
I hope this finds everyone well. This kind of thinking can save your life in desperate times. Let's all leave the world a little better than we found it.
I clicked on this video without realising is Daniel Goleman. His book Emotional Intelligence was right infront of me. Well, I've got a busy start of the year coming to complete his book. Happy Nee Year all.
Wow
This is a video that everyone in the world needs to watch. As a counselor for 12 years, I know if we can increase emotional intelligence we can make this world a better place. ❤❤❤
Dr. Goleman, this talk on "Emotional Intelligence" (EQ) lasted 11:55 minutes. Honestly, I could listen to your lectures for a duration of eleven (11) days and fifty-five (55) minutes and be totally ecstatic while taking mental and literal notes❣️ 😊 A standing ovation from me to you Dr. Daniel Goleman❣️ Much respect and appreciation for your shared expertise.👏
You have no idea how you have helped me on my dreams Mr. Daniel Goleman, thank you so much.
That story about the bus driver was wonderful and inspiring! Let’s all spread a little more emotional intelligence in the world :)
I read Emotional Intelligence 5 years ago and it has helped me a lot
He is a life changing human being ❤️
I clicked on this gem 💎im so amazed by this episode
I started a job as a first-time manager and I was struggling emotionally and professionally. But what made it tolerable and enlightening was my boss who, despite my MANY mistakes, continues to mentor me.
This video is right on point regarding EQ and my boss has all the points mentioned by Mr Goleman. I hope that in time, I also develop into the leader I want to be and be someone my own boss would be proud of.
Thank you, I’ve been a leader for 8years, emotional intelligence is a must. I learn this through the years it was not easy but having EI best part of it. Learn the cycle and begin a routine…
Don’t know how this came across my timeline today but I want to say a very big thank you to Big Think+ and Daniel Goleman. I’m looking forward to reading Daniel Goleman’s work on Emotional Intelligence
Excellent reminder to hone our Emotional Intelligence skills. With so many conflicts in our lives this key skill makes life easier.
After a very long exhausting and draining day, this is what I really needed to hear, sometimes you'd think that the problem is you ( I mean yourself) but Dr. Goleman has broken it down quite remarkably and if only people would acquire such intelligence, the world itself would be so much better.
Thank You Dr. Daniel Goleman & Much Appreciated to #BigThink+
Law of diminishing returns applies to IQ versus EQ. As you stated, once you've established and entered a world of high IQ processing, the ability to tune in to high EQ processing distinguishes subtle aspects of life that are crucially important to quality of life and work and which lay beneath the ken of distinction and engagement in those who lack a strong Emotional Quotient.
I find our early schooling to be misguided in its over emphasis on scholastic performance versus managing relational skills and understanding/empathy.
Thank you Daniel for sharing. And for emphasizing that this is a dynamic process as well, EQ, listening and processing which can always be improved no matter age or situation.
This seems a crucial topic for our culture of late, in my experience.
I truly believe that everyone on Earth should watch this right now!
We need more people like the bus driver ❤
A great master short of knowledge, Bravo what a day, what a life to live to love 🌹
I enjoyed watching this! I’ve been actively working on the four domains on emotional intelligence. Some days I’m great at it and some days not. But, I recognize when I fall short and I’m continuously striving to do better.😊
Three great forces that rule the world...
Thank you for all the wonderful knowledge 👍🏻
It would make a better world indeed, would be huge if it would make its way during childhood stage! Thank you for work! I believe most of emotional intelligence is drained out of children before school, with a great gap right when it needs to be shaped already!
This is amazing! I can’t wait to become an owner of my business to share my knowledge and practice my calling! Emotional intelligence is critical to understand life in another perspective
Love this topic. Thank you..🙏💖🕊️
Sends my appreciation for Daniel Goleman :)
Thank you Team Big Think for always presenting great topics and great mentors. For me this is the best UA-cam channel.
Thank you for this!
What an amazing perspective. People tend to focus on goals and results much more than actually connecting with others. Now I'm going to have to read Daniel Goleman's work :)
Me too
Needs to be seen by every business leader
Brilliant. This is soo much needed in all levels of society especially at schools where kids nowadays tend to have a great need of emotional management.

One of the best presentations on EI. Thank you!
Such wise words. Unfortunately majority of employers seek mainly fiscal reports and KPI that doesn't include emotional intelligence.
Excellent perspective on emotional intelligence, thank you for sharing.

Dividing intelligence into types' is debatable, and labeling one as 'emotional' can lead to misunderstandings. This has simplified complex concepts and distorted practices in areas like human resources. It's important to use the term precisely to avoid biases.
What a great video very inspiring thanks

The sad part is that the people with low emotional intelligence are not willing to even acknowledge their shortcomings. How then can you get to making them aware that their behavior is messing everything up?
