  • This is a belt driven iris designed and built by myself. The mechanism is made from laser cut aluminium for the frame, the gear paddles are 3d printed and the blades are 0.25mm lexan.

      Aaron Cook: LmDfAo, Thank you, your comment made my day 😂😂😂. I was just starting to look through the comments to figure out if anyone else had a problem with the whole "Mechanical iris window shade EXPLAINED" title, and low and behold, there you were, brightening my day with a well deserved chuckle.
      On a side note, that SG1 iris is spectacular. Awesome job, however, I would have loved a "Detailed Explanation" of how he made it........ and by that I mean "not" another video of him disassembling it further with 0 audio to actually "Explain" How it was made and what materials were used etc.

    • @VestedUTuber
      @VestedUTuber 5 років тому +13

      Nope. Trinium isn't a real mineral.
      But it can be pure titanium like the one they used back before they discovered trinium.

      I mean, it could exist. It doesn't, but it could. The properties of that stuff (extremely high density, usefulness as a capacitor, radioactivity) suggest that it's a superheavy element in the island of stability, with an atomic number in the 200s.
      Thought you might find that interesting to make up for my missing the point a year ago.

    Great design, really creative to use the gear drive instead of a traditional system. Looks like you get faster operation and less space required for the mechanics.

    to all you guys moaning about how he didnt explain anything
    its really simple he uses a drive belt to move cogs which have the iris parts attached to them
    and he added one more coq that has a round knob on it so when he turns the knob the drive belt turns all
    the other cogs which opens or closes the iris depending on the direction you turn
    if you want make something similar just google template for mechanical iris and you will find a lot of templates
