  • Creating successful mock scrapes involves choosing a strategic location, usually near deer trails, food sources, or between bedding and feeding areas, and timing their setup a few weeks prior to the peak of the rut. Gathering tools such as scent attractants (buck urine and doe estrous scent), a scrape dripper or scent dispenser, scrape tools (gloves, rake, licking branch), and a trail camera is essential. To create the mock scrape, find a low-hanging branch to serve as the licking branch, clear the ground below it with a rake to create a bare patch of earth, and make a shallow hoof-sized depression as the "scrape." Applying scent attractants to the scrape and licking branch, and setting up a scent dispenser, helps mimic natural scent-marking behavior. Regularly maintaining the mock scrape, refreshing scents every week, and monitoring deer activity with a trail camera are crucial. Adjust your hunting strategy based on consistent buck activity around the mock scrape, positioning your tree stand or blind downwind from the scrape to increase your chances of encountering bucks. Remember, combining mock scrape tactics with other hunting strategies provides a more comprehensive approach to deer hunting success.

Natural vines 3/4 to 1” work the best where I am at. It’s natural and you don’t have to put any sent on it the deer will do it for you! Just sharing something I have learned through the years. Good luck this year
