      It requires a tortured soul, and an appreciation for letting yourself get lost in the sauce… true artists are few and far between, and we can only be so lucky as to be exposed to them.

    I don't care how many notes Jason plays he is playing the shit out of them all with a ton of soul the entire time! So many haters! Go practice and learn something instead of ripping the guy to make yourselves feel better about yourselves! Best harp player I have ever seen period!

    What amazes me is all of those notes are in his mind. I think Little Walter would of been so amazed at this.

    INSANE including a pure Butterfield Woodstock quote - anyway this is beyond belief but Jim Zeller hit us about like this in 1974 - minus overblows (Ricci's are the most listenable I have yet heard) - Zeller had speed, vibrato, a Kalamazoo amp with a coat over it, harps soaked in a water pitcher, and he may already have been using tape delay (which fattened tone a bunch at all times) - also played 2 minor positions a lot - used the CBH as did Magic Dick when it came out; Zeller's record is Cartes Sur Table and he was a Michel Pagliaro band member

    @tenbarsteam I don't think music is about "doing the job". Music should be sometimes surprising and open, and it can't be if theres a "right way" to do it. Playing slow and playing fast are diferenft expressions that say different things, some may not like one or the other, but for me is what music is about.
    I think Jason does that, he just expressing himself in different ways, and I really enjoy it.
    (What is true is that some people just play fast to show off, but this is not the case).

  • @tenbarsteam
    @tenbarsteam 13 років тому

    Personally I don't get off on that fast technical stuff. I just can't see the point of doing thousands of triplets and scales for minute upon minute. It's like listening to a 5 minute drum solo. The slow bit at the beginning was excellent. Live music is about communication with the audience and most (apart from the harp players) will drop out if you go on too long. I appreciate that it's clever stuff though but just not my bag. Why play 10,000 notes when 3 will do the job?

  • @tenbarsteam
    @tenbarsteam 11 років тому

    A well constructed and thought provoking response jen riggs but the facts is after the fourth minute, this just gets boring. You've got to admit that. It's like wacthing and listening to someone doing their scales.

  • @ElizabethGS
    @ElizabethGS 12 років тому

    @surferpan Sorry - but you're SO offbase it's amazing. You obviously have never once been to a JR & NB show. Most of us commenting have and know JUST how the interaction between Jason, the band and the audience took place. You're blathering just to feel important and no doubt you've convinced yourself you're correct. You're not. You have absolutely NO knowledge of what went on between Jason and his audience and the band. Each played/interacted beautifully together. Clueless.

  • @dougmanification
    @dougmanification 12 років тому

    Buckethead is a very good good guitarist. You sound like you think your better than Buckethead on guitar....

  • @surferpan
    @surferpan 12 років тому

    Like to see him play with the band, instead of the band backing him and his antics up. But, since he is the draw I suppose the band does whatever Jason wants the band to do. They just let him go on his tangents. Up and down the scale and playing his overblows with a vengeance. He's got good technique, but the speed or adrenaline has taken over his performances. Solo artist. Doesn't need a regular band. They must be over it. Just travel town to town, side show and pay a local band to play chords

  • @surferpan
    @surferpan 12 років тому

    I didn't even hear the audience clap while he was in his lead riff, which was spectacular. He's got incredible abilities, but stage presence, interaction with the audience is non existent. I don't think he can identify with anyone. Everyone needs to be able to identify with Jason. Performing is an interaction with the audience. This is more like a circus act. Spectacle.

      Rick Miller why the hell would they be clapping while he’s playing

  • @surferpan
    @surferpan 12 років тому

    Jason needs to play music and stop being a spectacle. It's gone to his head, it's in his performance etc.. he's got talent, but it's overshadowed by his extreme abilities. If he could harness that power, energy and put it in a method performance that people can enjoy, dance to without feeling like they are in a circus I could dig it. Sure, it's good for the first hour or two, until you figure out his gig. He's about pushing the envelope with his abilities. like to see him sing, play and dance.

      Hey bro? You ever been to one of my shows? My guys play as much or more than me man... I let 'em GO!!! I got my show case tune once or twice a night (which are the ones people usually upload) as my boys get there's to...Check out some other videos. That being said my new band is much more into songs than even soloing these days. I normally don't reply to comments like this but you said a few kind things too so I thought you might actually dig it in context.

    • @nerenahd

      I am a harmonica player, and Jason is my favorite harp player ever. In a live context it's awesome to see such a performance. How many harp players could do something like that? Very few, if any. As the man himself said, once or twice a night is totally cool. I've seen so many of his performances with his band, those are awesome musicians, and they usually get plenty of time and opportunities to share the spotlight, but Jason is obviously the main attraction.
