- Seems to be just a tankier Kirin. Drops a lot of streamstones though from what I can tell or maybe I was just lucky on my first run. This thing's probably going to be a bitch to speedrun mostly because you're more likely to have to deal with it limping away thanks to it being tankier than regular & tempered Kirin

lol @ the few people in the comments thinking that this run was too good to be a first attempt when I posted a screenshot of this hunt's kill screen just ~10 minutes after the quest was released.

IDK how they couldnt believe it was your first attempt. Shoot I think you could have done it in 2 minutes or less. You played it so safe and missed some hits too, easily believable it was your first attempt.

Canta I just wanted to say thank you. I was always interested in the mh franchise but you're the one that got me playing. The way you dominate capcom's creations has to be considered a form of art

It has a decent amount of slots and level 5 thunder atk 2 marathon runner and 3 blight res and 3 free elem/ammo up
edit: and you can get the spring blossom set as layered armour for 2 kirin tickets
My first encounter went VERY differently
Bruh, I've killed him twice with insect glaive. 20-25 minutes both times, died once both time. If not for temporal mantle this would be impossible for me..
Having said that: I watched your strategy very closely, hit face and roll, hit face and roll... I've never had an easier time fighting Kirin since watching this. Thank you, sir, for this video!
The roll is an animation cancel and a dodge
Slow and hard hitting weapons are best for fighting kirin. Weapons that need to stay on the target most of the time are the hardest to kill kirin with. Ive had best results with GS, HM and i think HH would also be really good for this. GS is definitly easiest because you need to hit once but hard and you have more range than hammer. Hammer has KO damage to the head (you should be hitting kirin only in the head to be honest) so its slightly better for speedruns or if you just want to kill him faster. Draw crit build for GS is preety easy to use on kirin so i reccomend that.
Anyone else still bothered by the fact that you have to sharpen your hammer

After seeing my character fish out a Plesioth I accepted the logic and carried on. :)
Think of it as brushing off stuck chunks of monster flesh that are softening the blows. At least, that's how i think about it because why else would one "sharpen" a blunt weapon?

I'm just passing by here to say thank you. This was the very first MHW video I ever watched (I was reading a SAO Fanfiction that mentioned Kirin, so it got me interested), and today I was finally able to beat AT Kirin (on my first try! though it did take me 18 minutes, and I did die once). I don't use hammer (bow 4 laifu), but still, I would never ever have played this amazing game if I had not watched this very video.

Arch-tempered Kirin seems to be just another event mon that's just overall buffed and shiny (like golden pickle), the AI and attacks didn't seem different to me.
Apart from taking longer to kill, I don't believe A.T mons will pose much of threat to hunters familiar with their move patterns as well as environmental exploits, oh well at least the gamma armour sets are more than worth it (especially for those who've gotten lucky with decor RNG).
Andre Stewart So true almost beat on my first try with my sleep US build. How I died was I got paralyzed then stunned then one shot. Yeah but otherwise pretty easy.
I dk bounce Easyer harder to brake faster.. May use his killer move more often... Get use to flash pods and other blight.. There are diferences
This was an awesome run. My favorite weapon, a sick build, and you completed destroyed Kirin. I had to look back and make sure the title said "Arch Tempered".

It’s me Canta, Joey (the one mistook your emotes as tohou ones yesterday) my first hammer run was 12 minuets with three cart, very painful, so praise the palico insurance XD
What I think is the most impressive is the way Canta mastered the game and dominate it, he know what is going on in every situation and how to deal whith it

As a hammer main, I like your hammer play. Charge attack level 2 and 3 are always useful. Excellent play.
I must say I’m not really that impressed with these arch tempered monsters. While the gear may be great the monsters themselves barley offer anything new besides buffed attacks and HP? Thought the hunts would be radically different in a way.
PuNanii Senpai i figured he would have at least one or two new moves (like socks said) but its just Kirin given the T.Jho treatment.
Ray Blade Yeah thats very disappointing. Capcom should at least beef the AI and multiply their movesets. Because as it stands we’re essentially hunting the exact same monsters but now their HP sponges.
PuNanii Senpai im not sure if this is new but he did a long jump backwards and he absolutely refuses to stop trying to impale with his horn. Im patrolling on reddit and someone said he has a new attack in multiplayer but im not bothered enough to check since everyone will die anyways.
Ray Blade lol Yeah I use lance so I tried soloing him while steadily blocking his attacks to see whats new and so far all I’ve come to notice is that he summons a few more lightning bolts and they cover more area? As far as the back hop I haven’t noticed anything significantly different about it other than its buffed attack. But he seems to be the exact same tbh. But Ill check reddit as well.

Like a wise man once said "it doesn't matter how physically powerful you become, it means nothing if you can't hit your opponent and that said opponent already knows all your attacks".

It's ridiculous how skilled you are with all the weapons. Distance judgement on all the hammer attacks is perfect and the wake up @7:40 I have never seen before. Most people do the level 3 charge attack.

They could have re-colored rathalos and adapt the Dreadking moveset, along with the dreadking armor... but no, they made kirin shinier and made it more hyper.
Silver Rathalos would make more sense
Elliepopcorn if you think the dreadkng rathalos is ‘just a recolor’ but tankier, then you’ve not fought it. My point is that this arch-tempered monster is the laziest thing they could have done.

I totally agree that they should stop with the asenine 'upgrades...' MH4 and MHX survived just fine without constant 'upgrades' before their respective G-versions and did just fine... It makes me wonder why the devs think that event quests and bleh difficulty adjustments are good ideas to make the games last longer... The game took over 5 years to develop and yet MHW looks like the devs cut corners wherever they could, including the post-release support (armors, weapons and music taking most cuts). The deviant system from MHG/X has its issues, but at least there was a good enough reason to hunt the endgame monsters over and over again... I think bringing the dreadking, or the silver, rathalos in would be better 'lazy' additions than this 'arch-tempered' concept they've introduced now. Different movesets and better rewards would go a long way. :D
If you look at the leaks back a few months ago, we knew about lunastra and kulve taroth (aka treasure dragon). One thing that wasn't there was arch tempered monsters. Something tells me this is something to add more content and keep players happy while they work on something bigger. Exactly what? I'm sure we will find out next week.

Yeah, hypers were interesting at least, while (arch-)Tempered just have better attack and hp...
Hypers had :
- attacks changing of rythm
- strong special charged attacks
- do not get tired
this on top of the "traditional" stats boost, and at least, all stats are buffed, not just one or two...

Quick minitip for climbing: doing the dash up with A or X, then letting your character do the little lunge from holding sprint, then the dash again, and repeating that is the fastest way to climb
What is the difference with arch tempered kirin so far it looks like normal kirin to me I heard she was meant to have new attacks maybe I heard wrong?

Kirin is by far the most satisfying monster to kill with a hammer.
He's just like regular Kirin with a larger health pool.
He hits a lot harder too but I rarely get hit by him anyway so that part doesn't effect me much. The extra damage needed to take him down does though.

Were there actually new attacks with this Kirin because I was killing him earlier and didn’t notice new attacks at all. I thought arch tempered monsters were supposed to have new attacks, patterns etc. Isnt that what they said on the dev stream.

Wait, does the third/fourth hit (the upswing) of the hammer's combo do more damage than the end of charged brutal big bang? Curious because Canta used it to wake up Kirin which I've never seen.
it does, only by a small margin though, I tested it in the training area a while ago

I did saw a couple new set of patterns and moves. Not enough to make a huge difference but he does have them.

Kirin has aprox 14k health
At 9.6k of damage taken drops the first pod
And about 1.5k more is goes to its nest and we all now its pretty easy doing 4k of damage
So now y'all know
It has more health than the original tempered Kirin and obviously more attack

I noticed you use the golf swing for the wake up. Does the golf swing do higher damage than the third hit of Brutal Big Bang?
It does slightly more damage but the difference is so small that it doesn't really matter which option you choose, I just did it for the style points
tempered and arch monster is same / not? if not , what difference?
What a letdown that it's just a tankier Kirin with more attack, similar to normal tempered monsters.. I wish these things would have multiplayer hp like past game monsters so there would be incentive to go tag with people to take these out. Oh well, got my 5 tickets and I'm not playing for a week or two again lol

Arch Tempered monsters have more HP and higher flinch thresholds and in some cases (not this one) new moves as well.

Is crit boost lvl 3 even worth going for since it's just a meager 10% increase from the lvl 1?
Each level only boosts the critical damage bonus by 5%. So Level 1 ups it from 25% to 30%, Level 2 from 30% to 35%, and Level 3 from 35% to 40%. 1 point is fine if you're lacking in decos but once you're able to you should get it up to Level 3.
crit boost is good on greatsword. 10% extra damage on a greatsword charge is a lot

nah, TA rules allow sporepuffs so this is technically a run with TA rules (if you ignore the fact that TAs don't allow event quests at all) but this wasn't supposed to be a speedrun anyway, just showing my first time fighting Arch Tempered Kirin
