You get off of expensive/older guys to save money, get draft capital if possible, and make your roster more balanced elsewhere. Smart move by the Chiefs though. Hill wanted to get paid, knew that they couldn't let go of that money because the AFC West has gotten so much stronger and defensive contracts needed to be sorted and got a boatload of picks so that they can strengthen the defense with young talent and manage money.
    You don't need a Tyreek Hill level WR if you can
    A) Mitigate the damage these AFC offenses are able to do with improved defensive play
    B) Find an effective receiver that fits the scheme and still helps you put up points.
    C) Um...have Patrick Mahomes as your QB.
    I doubt Chiefs fans will lose any sleep over this if the picks are used intelligently.

    • @bobfttw
      @bobfttw 2 роки тому +3

      @@cptty3203 With proper scouting and grooming you can mitigate the random variables involved in signing some of these players to a certain extent.
      What we do know though is that in the AFC championship game the Chiefs lost to the Bengals in what ended up being a coin toss of offensive fire power because neither of them could stop one another.
      The team with the best defense in this division will win this division. Now you mitigate some of the damage done by losing Hill on offense by getting a good scheme fit to go along with the best TE, QB and one of the better offensive lines in football and you are the best equipped to get out of AFC that you possibly can be.
      You're not wrong in your points and it may not work out, but, I think you're taking quite a gamble by leaving the cabinet bare defensively.

    Chiefs are going to get one of the top 4 WR in this years draft and maybe 2 of the top 10 because of how many draft picks they have. At some point the money just runs out and what has killed us the last few years is the inability to spend any money on the secondary. This is the reason we still have Sorenson playing at Safety and he cost us on two TD plays for Cincinnati a chance at the super bowl. In 2023 we will be able to resign alot of our best defensive players that are all ready on the roster with the money Hill wanted. Now he's all about being as over the top as humanly possible, and being genuine and knowledgeable has taken a back seat to the character he now plays on TV and radio. That works fine for pandering to the lowest common denominator crowd out there, but fans with a more pragmatic approach are left wondering what happened to the guy we used to know. Lucky for him there are no shortage of idiots who just want to be entertained, but I sure do miss the guy that once upon a time was so balanced.

    Stephen A got it all wrong about the salary cap, he looks at it as keeping contracts down for rich owners but it helps keep all the teams competitive. It could be like the English premier league where big teams pay up and nobody else can compete in nearly 30 years only 7 different teams have ever won the league and 3 of those are one time winners or Scotland where only 2 teams ever win the league. When thinking of it all European sports there are only 2 or 3 teams who can win. The salary cap....It's a good thing.

      @JoseRodrigues016 2 роки тому +1

      Even with a salary cap in european football the same teams would still win, the players would just get paid less on the big teams. Unlike in US Sports small teams in europe can't generate enough revenue to pay high salaries and they're not owned by Billionaires to fund them. That's why US investors like the Glazers bought big teams in England, you need to put in less money or none at all and own a historic asset that keeps going up in value.

    • @tomrachellesfirstdance7843

      @JoseRodrigues016 2 роки тому

      @@tomrachellesfirstdance7843 It works in the US because even a team like the Jaguars can afford to spend 200M in salaries if necessary. You've teams in the 1st division in Spain, France,etc that are based in cities with 100k inhabitants. Their revenue is basically just the TV money that they use to break even and keep the club going.

    People are talking like the chiefs were actively shopping hill and trying to get rid of him, when they offered him a deal to make him one of the highest paid receivers and unfortunately the way the receiver market developed he was in line to ask for a lot more and the chiefs couldn’t do that with the holes and players contract coming up soon. Hill deserved to get paid and asked to go where he could and it’s not necessarily a straight forward win/win for both sides but the chiefs are getting something out of nothing

    Can they replace T Hill production in the draft (especially this one), NO. BUT can they, over a couple of rounds of that amnt of picks and cash, recover 1/2-3/4 of his production, maybe! If you cover that much, plus now can focus on many other positions, plus free agency this and next year, then ya can still contend. They are definitely missing that IT factor now. But still. Cover the substantial production mostly, and he strong in many other areas. Ya still have something.
    They need Mecole to start being what they picked him for though. That could help.

Chiefs use some of the draft capital to take Trent McDuffie, who quickly becomes a lockdown corner and helped lead the Chief's historic defense through an epic playoff run against four of the top six offenses for the season. Dolphins, Bills, Ravens, Niners. Most difficult playoff run in history.

    We'll come back to this in a couple years after KC cleans house in this upcoming couple of drafts and build a much better overall team. Meanwhile, Tyreek Hill will be yesterday's news. Yeah he'll still make some great plays for Miami, if he's even still playing for Miami at that point, and he'll probably be wishing he had taken a bit less money to stay in KC. In the short term, the Chiefs Super Bowl odds barely went down at all, and that's before the draft and free agency.
