Fun fact, EVA is estimated to be about 60 meters, which makes this, the first ever model kit, closest to being scale 1/144, so pose away this kit with your 1/144 models
Yes like in 18:20 . But actually, EVAs height in the old TV ver is inconsistent, the lower estimate is around 40m while the higher estimate is around 100m. So for the old TV ver, 1/100 scale Gundam would look good. But in the new rebuild (remake) version EVAs are actually around 70-80 meter, but yeah still 1/144 is around the right scale altho 1/200 HCM Pro and 1/200 Speed Grade Gundam would look okay too.
@@insansiregar6158 I do understand that which is why I used "estimated", also, you won't find bigger model kit at the current time, so why not enjoy what we have? 1/200 probably would be overkill since this one is almost 50cm in height :D
I'm really hoping they'd consider making an accessory set, like the positron rifle, the shield and the N2 missile (in one set). MENG also made a stand that can be used for the EVA kits (it is also huge), but it is a clamp type and the EVA kinda just sits loosely in the clamp so you can do more dynamic poses but kinda risky. Edit: Commented before finishing the video, so yea, the stand could be better. I drilled though the hole where umbilical cable connects to so the peg of the stand could fit - the part would fall off sometimes but it made for a tidier look.
The stand is pretty terrible, in my opinion. Better than nothing as the kit struggles under its own weight, but only barely. I've been meaning to try and put a matte coat on it to see if adding some texture will help it out. Out of box it is too smooth and the feet slip and slide all over the place.
Was always curious about Meng as a manufacturer and how well their kits are I saw a Meng USS Enterprise at a local hobby shop and was surprised it was colour separated
I built the Unit-01 last year and was super happy with how it was made. The only problem with the first run was the hands had those numbs on them so it left a spot with no paint in the end. I can't wait to pick up Unit-02
I really wish they make a model with optional tv version of Unit 02's head. Preferrably with the sliding mechanism on the eyes like the old hg kit but with lights up.
Just something minor... i think they gave this 02 the 01's prog knife. I seem to recall eva 02's knife looked like a box cutter. I could be wrong and even with this, overall this kit looks awesome and the size reminds me of gundam mega size.
These are brand new molds for Eva 02, and are unique and different designs from what came with Unit 01. However, while they are unique, they are based on the rebuild design, while you are thinking of the original tv design, as the other commenter pointed out.
While this is quite an amazing model kit (finally a huge EVA model kit that looks exactly like in the new anime), I can't help but think it looks so bland detail wise. It's like looking at an oversized Robot Damashii. Also we need light-up features on the forearms, shoulders and eyes.
Dynaction is smaller, but only slightly. The Spear of Cassius from Meng is actually smaller than the Dynaction one, though. The proportions are also much better on the Dynaction, in my opinion. But the Meng is fun to build and all the pre-painting is very impressive.
Meng is slightly bigger and offers more in gimmicks and accessories, Dynaction is something that’s easier to mess around with by nature of it being a figure and not a model kit.
Ver 1.5 is just a rerelease of the original kit with fewer accessories and without pre-painting. No Mini-gun, No Spear of Cassius, fewer hands, The Original release is the way to go if you can find it.
Do you have any comparison shots? I don't see anything on the Meng site indicating that, and it uses the same runners. The only thing it seems to say is the multi-injection runners were improved for better stability. Possible they modified them or replaced them with new/modified runners with the same label. I thought they were different but when I saw the 1.5 in person (unbuilt) it looked the same to me.@@entropy553

Best served with 8-9 spears inside it!

ngl that makes it a good addition to your background.
Looking at that huge size, it made me think of an old EVA 01 Papercraft (Printed, cut and glued) but bigger than the kit. 😁
Eva-02 was always my favorite. Looks fantastic as a model.
Was always curious about Meng as a manufacturer and how well their kits are

The little worldwartoon tanks are fun, nice quality

Great kit!! The banner on the website is so huge I can't see any of the products even using my TV as a monitor for my PC! And in full page mode.
Thanks for another great review.
Looks like Meng improved from Eva 01 to 02. Unit 01 has these really huge ugly gate marks on the hands that you can’t avoid.
What a fantastic looking kit. Dhelf presence indeed! 😁

is version 1.5^
Big Box 😮
Wow, that is a big boy and the part separations is awesome. It's too bad there is not a alternate head with a open mouth.

I think the box cutter prog knife is what they looked like in the original Eva anime. This is the rebuild design

@@jordan901 I see. Thank you for clearing it out.
@@polskiwyrob7650 i see. thank you!
The head just looks so goofy imo, the horn is massive and they made it look like the crimson chin lmao
That's what it looks like in the Rebuild movies.
I mean that’s accurate to the rebuild design. I don’t like it either but Meng didn’t invent it

Does it not have a bicep/upper arm pivot? I don't wanna cut the plastic to put one in, just wanna be sure if it has a full range of movement. 🙏
Hey super quick question. Did the screws come with the base? I’ve just received my base and it came without screws or springs
Oh finally, been looking for some eva models!!!! So is this like a perfect grade scale size-wise? It looks bigger than MG 1/100?
It's huge. It'll dwarf PGs. It's like 1.5ft tall.
its bigger than a Perfect Grade Gundam, but i did some calculations and this is pretty close to 1/144 scale for the eva lol
I want a mecha musume kit this size! XD
same!
Curious if you can panel line it due to the pre-painting - Pour or pen type. It does look pretty great just on its own though.
whats the difference between this and the 1.5?
What kind of batteries are used for the thunder spear?
Lol looks like a giant RG eva...
What is the height of this unit?
so anyone here has a DynAction Eva figure? how does the MENG kit compared to the DynAction figure version's size?
Dynaction is smaller, but only slightly. The Spear of Cassius from Meng is actually smaller than the Dynaction one, though. The proportions are also much better on the Dynaction, in my opinion. But the Meng is fun to build and all the pre-painting is very impressive.

Any problems with nubs? Cause its pre painted it will show the base colour right?
It’s all undergated (except parts which could not be undergated)
Damn I’m first 😮
Nope
@@muning9577 nah uh

@@jordan901great knowing!!! Thanks for the info.
@jordan901 it's not the same. The sculpt was corrected e.g. head not as big and limbs not as skinny.
