- Mr. Cast Iron tours the long-awaited Lodge Museum of Cast Iron. The museum's location is inside the Lodge Cast Iron Outlet Store in South Pittsburg, Tennesee. A hammered cast iron skillet is available for purchase to museum guests only at this time.
The museum opened to the general public on October 8th, 2022. Not only is it about the history of cast iron manufacturing, but there are also kiosks demonstrating how to care for your cast iron pan and ways dutch oven cooking is done. There are so many things to enjoy in this new Lodge Cast Iron Museum that I think you will be well pleased that you took the tour. I know we sure did!

Good morning Mike. Congratulations on getting the Museum open That's an amazing curated collection of Cast Iron Skillets. As I'm sure you're probably aware, the oldest cast iron artifacts date from early 5th century B.C. China, in the Jiangsu province, and were widely used in the region by the 3rd century B.C. Cast iron slowly then made its way to Western Europe, likely via the Silk Road, and wasn't an important material until the 14th century A.D. That being said, have a great weekend.

Beyond Belief! That display wall when you first walk in, I have no words. That
would be an absolute Gold Mine if they sold a Jigsaw puzzle out of a picture
of that. Now, some would display the puzzle "Mint in Box" and others would
make the puzzle, frame it, and hang it on a wall. All proceeds to a charity.
Question of the day, How on earth does someone start a collection of
13,000 pieces of anything? "We should get more of these". And when does
one say to themselves, "That should do it." 😃
Lastly, what happens if you're counting the pieces in your collection and
lose track at 12,274.......... lol Oh the Horror!

If they do they better not cheap out on their tooling or else they’ll need to replace the cutting heads frequently
I bought off Amazon a couple of weeks ago two Lodge bread pans and they're of good quality.👍

I wasn't able to make it last weekend. So, I went yesterday. The museum was closed due to maintenance. They had a water pipe burst. Now, I wish I would have went last weekend. I did find some deals in the store though.
Yes, I was hoping we would see you guys there. I heard they have shut down for some repairs, too, but I doubt it will be for very long. I hate you didn’t get to check it out!
@@MrCastIron well it is only a 30 minute drive for me so I'll see it when they reopen. Plus in a few weeks the leaves will be at their peak color so will make a pretty drive. I didn't realize they were going to have a restaurant. That's awesome.

Thank you so much for this tour. I passed by there Friday on the way to Bridgeport to an estate sale but I didn't get to stop, I had another in Whitwell that started at 12:00 so I passed back by without time. I'm from Dayton so its about a 90 minute drive. Do they have any Blacklock skillets? I have a feeling what is called an initial skillet might be a Blacklock. Seeing those people with thousands of pieces makes me feel better, I'm still working on my first thousand. We don't have accents so I'm guessing you're close by as well. Most folks outside the south do have an accent. lol
A friend and his wife along with me run in to you guys opening morning. I think we were in line together to get in.

7:17 I noticed that even on opening day, moving those pans aside has rubbed some of the paint off the wall underneath. Lodge should consider putting something on the back side of the skillet so it doesn't keep doing that. Maybe fastening a little bit of padding on the back side, like a Command strip, will prevent it from rubbing directly against the wall.

Yes they do! I only noticed it as I was leaving because it was at the very top of the big opening wall.

@@MrCastIron Yea its easily missed as they have it flipped around so the inside of it faces the wall. All of the other baking pans are faced outward. Not to mention it is way above eye level. They knew what they were doing!

cool place. i have 7 pieces of cast iron i use all of them except my sauce pan. they are all over 110 years old. passed on from my great grandparents. i only have one lodge my 14 inch dutch oven. sadly i cant find the lid. everything else is wagner.
