Softube's Drawmer 1973 plugin locks the three channel knobs together while holding "shift". I can't remember if it locks them proportionally or synced. I have the 1973 hardware and have to say the Softube emulation is unbelievably close so I'm looking forward to taking the SMC for a spin!
Great as always David! This is also Bill Schnee's favorite on mix bus. Marc Daniel nelson uses it often too. Al, Bill, Marc and tons of others use it I can't wait to try it out 🤘
Wow. I was totally like you checking the hardware and deciding whether to go with that or not, like for years. But currently use the cl1b (hardware) through midside(fusion insert) in my analog chain and like that sound. But now with this plugin, I can go for that Multiband setup without burning the bank (mastering version is like 7k). Thanks for the review.
Hold down Shift and you can move all the bands at once! btw I always check with you when it comes down to the reviews!! thanks a lot for your content!!🙌
I think multiband compressor is a necessary processor that many are missing from their mix bus and it can add a LOT of energy and polish up a lot of turd too imo, not tried this yet but can't go wrong with Softube, that's pretty much a guarantee.
David always manages to be inspiring and exciting no matter what plugin or hardware the video is about. He is God's gift to the audio world. And this plugin is really good, hard not to buy.
This is soo cool! great review thanks :)) btw, hold shift to do that all at once moving for the threshold - I watched Dom Sigalas review and he mentioned that, but he's on Mac. so on pc I think its still shift.
Unit of subtlety and class ... Sounds about right. It makes the whole mix more expensive, glued together just enough so it isn't too much and it doesn't destroy the high end with anoying high frequencies. I think this would be the nice tool to have on a mix bus before going to mastering. Just a little spice. Maybe this unit can be used also on EDM music like some kind of mild transformer. :)
I really would love to hear your thoughts on the shadow hills dual vandergraph. For a high end 500 series with an iconic name it gets surprisingly little by way of reviews
Damn! I watched this on my phone, listening via my basic earbuds and it sounded amazing. How must this thing sound through your studio monitors? 🤯 I think I need this! 😁
I'm enjoying the demo right now! I think it sounds great on vocals, as you mentioned, but one of the ways that I used it already was to mix rap vocals over a 2-track beat. When you put it on the beat once you get the vocal sounding good with the level right, it gives you the best way to adjust the beat around the vocal to clean up any masking w/o sucking the life out of your track to make room for the vocal. I think Softube's sounds better, but Audio Acustica's Titanium has a version of this I've used before and liked the results.
What’s really crazy is none of these plug ins matter if the song is not a hit. You could have recorded PURPLE RAIN in Garage Band using stock plugs and it still would have been a hit.
That goes without saying, but purple rain would not have sold as many copies as it did if it didn't go through quality plugins as opposed to what comes with garage band.
@@couldnt_find_good_name2546 I can guarantee you Purple Rain didn't go through ANY Plugins !! .. over 40 years ago 😮 and certainly did't need them to sell 13 Million+ copies 🙄
I Love most Softube Plugins. I too have this actual hardware in mind for a future purchase in a hybrid situation. I just tried it and liked it a lot…sounds great. But then I thought lemme see if the PSP Oldtimer MB sounds better than this and…it won! Hands down. Therefore I am not gonna spend $200 on this plugin because I already have an even better Tube Multi-Band compressor in the digital realm. You can’t go wrong with PSP in the box. That $200 will be better saved for a real Tube-Tech SMC 2B…at least for me.
Smooth. That's what I've always thought about the CL1B and the SMC2B. Great plugin. The guitar is probably my favorite just a tiny bit more than the vocals. A friend of mine loved to send his mixes through this unit with a small bit of compression. I know I don't have the time to set this up for all the dialogue I mix, but you never know. It's pretty neat.
Impressive! I was saving for a FET multiband from Drawmer but this is so round and polished, I’m tempted…BTW a friend of mine is selling the hardware TubeTech for 3500€ if you’re interested. It never left his studio where he only mixed a few projects before retiring after a few unfortunate setbacks… I can’t afford the hardware, how close is the plug-in in your opinion? Having heard both (with months between the comparison), I have to say that I am much more impressed by the plug-in after a first audition 😳. Maybe I was trying to convince myself not to buy a 3500€ compressor but I wasn’t blown away by the hardware as I was impressed by your demo 😅
Alright David ” something for the EDM guys” I was wondering when you were going to branch out into the world of EDM. Hopefully you can do some Techno, Melodic Techno & Deep House Music mix, masters and demos!! That would be incredible man!! ❤️🔥❤️
My question is : why use the CL1b MK2 anymore on a vocal track if I own the SMC-2B ? 🤔U have more control with SMC-2B isnt it ? I know everything is situationnal but I am wondering
I compare it with Acustica Audio Titanium. Sorry, but the AA sounds more realistic and what I expect from. But is not bad. I use it sometimes in the Softube Flow.
Excellent review David - many thanks. Also, a really great and varied selection of tunes for demonstration purposes - fantastic stuff :) Ps, It's not a problem because I'll definitely buy this Softube software anyway... but my goodness we've got some amazing tools out on the market now and fighting for our attention (eg AA's SALT and Tone Projects' Michelangelo). Cheers :)
Big error on my part and got my Bond themes mixed up. But Bella's 'Goodbye' sounds just like Alicia Keys in 'Another Way to Die' from Quantum of Solace. Please accept my apologies David.
it's great from my experience. I like to use it on drums that were not recorded through the eq to make a starting point sounding way nicer (less mids, more colour, density, treble and bass)
Kind of apples vs oranges. TT is sweet and colored (altho' subtle) and an opto, MB is transparent but very broad and not really that precise. If you want the first kind then obviously the TT, if you want clean, precision and control then TC Electronic MD4 or Ozone Dynamics
This is a very good plugin by softube but i don’t think i need it considering i own titanium by acustica (want them to update it to hypertech so bad tho!) Also compared it to Psp oldtimerMB and they’re just different beast!
What’s even crazier if they can get the plug in that close hoe come they can’t get it exact? They can get it exact to the hardware but if they did that who would by the hardware? Everything is good. EVERYTHING! if you can’t get a hit out of stock plugs then the song not a hit.
I disagree. Purple rain could have been recorded in a bathroom Prince would have made it work why because it’s a great song but I do agree that when a hit song is recorded right it just sounds and feels better. But no more of a hit if it was not recorded correctly because it that was the case then every song recorded the right way with top equipment would be a hit
No you don't disagree. You just missed the point altogether and assumed anyone said that a song will be a hit if recorded and mixed well. Or that having a good song to begin with is not more important, which in fact, not just assumed but a platitude to even reiterate that idea. And lastly, you have no idea how many great songs have been ruined by a bad recording or mixing, you know why? Because they were ruined and never became known as great songs.
You miss understood what I am saying. What I am saying that if the song is not a hit and has the greatest mix on planet earth nobody cares. But if the song is a hit it can have the worst mix on the planet and it’s still a hot.

Softube + David, instant purchase. This is probably my favorite so far. Best review videos as always mate!
O wow beautiful! Softube is just killing it! Totally looking forward to the console 1 mk3. Thanks again MixbusTV.
The low end on the song Goodbye was so amazing.
The Acustica Audio is so spot on for the TubeTec compressor and equalizer too

Subtle changes that makes a BIG difference....Bravo Softube!!!

I bought it right when Softube opened it for sale, not even thinking lol
A shootout between this and AA Titanium would be nice:)
Al Schmitt's favourite compressor
Knocked it out of the park! Instant buy

Not for Halloween, my studio is all Hellraiser themed
What a sound! So smooth and rich. Happy Halloween David and Bella!! (BTW, that song is so fire!)
Thank you!
Nice one.
I’m sure this plugin is going to be very popular in no time.

Noth worth the money, most SH stuff is overpriced nothing iconic really
@@mixbustv appreciate the straightforward answer. I have one. What do you recommend to replace that slot for mastering applications

I wonder how it will stack up against Acustica Audio Titanium. If they are close I'm not paying the (non-sale) €299 (!!!!) for a blue UI.
Hi David, great review, this things seems to be a great tool. What is the artist at @9:17 ?
Syndey Valette
Softube never misses
Yeah. Especially with the Curve Bender Mastering EQ, they didn’t miss a beat. It’s not at all similar with the hardware
