Turns out she was a little short and I had to put in some of my money. When I started smoking cigarettes was 55 cents a pack. And I could get a 32 ounce of beer for less than 3 quarters. It paid well to panhandled in the early 70's.

I like the old cigarette commercials they were straight to the product. I'm smoking a pack of Kool's now. 61yrs old and still healthy as a horse, I still go mountain biking rock climb, swimming, water ski, and run marathons in late fall. Cigs don't bother me. I really enjoy them after a good dinner.
I use to smoke regularly when I felt like it, I was never addicted to them. Cigarettes affect everyone differently. Many have health problems, but I've always enjoyed a cigarette now and then, no issues here.

Problem is, you can never ever get those effects again, even after long breaks so without knowing it, people are chasing the dragon. You may also want to consider smoking marijuana out of a bong as a less harmful, more pleasurable, better tasting alternative .
Tobacco companies were weird back in the day. The thing is, doctors actually DID have the evidence that smoking is harmful to your body and they gave the info to the companies. However, the companies hid it from their customers so they could get their money. In the early sevs, a miracle happened; the government sued the tobacco companies and told them “smoking is bad! Stop saying that it’s refreshing!” And the companies said “but these ones aren’t as bad” and the government replied “..you can’t say that either” Cigarette ads have been banned from tv since then thanks to the PHCSA (public health cigarette smoking act) but people continued to smoke later in the seventies and somehow forgot about the incident. It was very common for people to smoke back in the seventies. Mainly musicians. And before then, even more musicians smoked. What is wrong with people 😑
There is nothing wrong with these people. It's utterly wrong and shameful to try to stigmatize them. They have facts and based on facts make decisions. Despite the harmful effects of cigarettes, some people like them. I my self love a cigarette after a nice meal. It's "Refreshing" and "tastes" good. That's not false advertising. Fortunate for me, I am not a regular smoker and am not addicted. I can smoke when and where that I want. It's a very small population but, some folks don't get addicted to nicotine, I'm one of them. So on a special occasion, I may like to have a smoke.
