I had a mallet finger on my left pinky and hard to play guitar on it. One doctor told me I needed surgery but I decided to put it in the splint. Days later i went to another doctor and told me it needs to be in the splint for 3 weeks. Now my finger is healing well and never needed surgery after all. Soon I'll be able to play guitar but I've injured my finger about a month ago. A tip for you guitar players wrap white tape around your mallet finger you won't feel as much pain while playing guitar. I've tried that and it somewhat works.
Hi... im also a pro guitar player.. saw your comment 1 years from now... i am now on my 3rd day healing process.. the very hard challenge for me because i play music for a living i play guitar every night i have a mallet finger injury on mu pinky.... can you share your experience? Thanks
It was in a splint full time for 8 weeks, after that it was physio and excersises in between physio for another 6. I couldn't really play guitar with it till towards the end. Take it slow! You don't want to rush it or you're back at day 1 again.
I had the tendon cut by an industrial fan, i've had it in the splint for 2 months but finally get to do some therapy tomorrow! Been very careful with it.
@@orokusaki8291 It's normal now I can somewhat clench a fist with the finger it's in my picking hand, I didn't let my finger heal properly and thought my finger was jammed or something so I waited three weeks for the surgery, I was anxious after a month and a half of surgery to use my dominate hand again I did all the therapy I wanna get one of those hand exercisers I've heard of people getting rid of that tendon strain by using those after surgery and therapy.
@@Alex-pl6dq damn man! Yeah apparently the only way to fix the type you had was by wearing a splint for 8 weeks full time and doing therapy after. In my case the tendon was cut so they opened up the finger lengthwise and reattached it, but the recovery after that is the same. If it's still not 100% i'd say ask your doctor about splinting it again👍

How long until you could use the finger to play guitar again? I am on week 10 of my mallet finger and it is still very stiff
