When COD still had love and affection put into it. Now COD is going through an identity crisis. It doesn't know anymore what made it so successful and popular in the first place. THIS and COD4 is what made the series successful.
Hades Hellfire world at war was what made the series renowned for brutality early on. They held nothing back when making that game. They showed real dead bodies in the intro cutscenes before each mission, gore galore, and not a single censored flag. This game brought something super close to home though. With the war literally being on our door in this game, it really felt like we were at war and defending ourselves from an unstoppable force. This game and WaW are and will probably always be my favorite cod games. But they’ll likely never be remade for the brutality in them. Something incredible about this game however, is the radio chatter. There’s a mission where you provide sniper fire for a landing area escorting civilians out of the area and if you don’t help you can hear how the situation gets worse. The themes in this game were incredible too. They captured everything to do with this war amazingly. Just as the themes in WaW did.
At least Modern Warfare 2019 looks to be re-railing the series. I’m so glad they’ve done away with all the sci-fi nonsense and they’re getting back to basics while still keeping it feeling fresh.
