A huge thank you Mr. averagejoe.. I installed mine without a glitch using your video instructions. All the tips were hugely well thought of. As far as the theft situation for the brackets that attach to the locks, you can basically permanently disable the bolts by applying a dab of epoxy putty to the heads of bolts. It will harden to rock consistency and be impossible to remove, whether you want to or not.
You are quite welcome! If you haven’t already, please give it a like and subscribe. I plan to post more updates on this rack in the future. I also agree that the included directions are horrible.
This is awesome, thank you so much for making this! I also had wait 6 months to get mine. Ordered in March and just got it last week. Excited to finally use it a bit before summer ends
Great video, made the job very enjoyable. The instructions Thule gives you are absolutely terrible. It's like the IKEA of the bike rack world. Thanks for your very instructive video.
This video was quite helpful in prepping for assembling the rack with a friend. We need a maul to get the cradles on, and for that reason didn't worry about securing the end caps, since the cradles aren't going anywhere - or probably not the caps either! You don't demonstrate how the rack with bikes on can hinge down to allow access to the tail gate or trunk - another asset of the Pro XT. We found to do so we needed to lift the rack up to get the lever to release, then let the whole rack hinge down. Also, we fastened the whole plastic cover over the button before putting the large mast piece into the hinged receiver as Thule suggests in the directions, though you can certainly do it as above. Socket wrench was a great suggestion.
Great review! If I saw correctly, I believe the two hooked locking bars are reversed in your video. They are two different lengths with the longer bar installed in the lower lock housing. Short bar on the top. Just assembled mine and can’t wait to use.
Thank you so much for this! Just used your video to put my rack together. I had the exact same issue with the end caps and the holes not quite lining up on the tube so you’re not the only one.
Hi, in the first step of attaching the Thule hitch mount area to the existing hitch, what is the threaded bolt threading thru in the existing hitch? Neither my hitch receiver nor the Thule rack hitch end has threads. So my bolt with washers that would attach to the lock is loose. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance.
What vehicle do you have? The reason why I ask is because I had a similar problem when trying to attach the rack to my Tundra. After speaking with Thule support, it turns out that the bolt was just a hair too short to catch the captive nut insert inside of the rack stem. This is due to the thickness of the steel on the receiver of the vehicle. Thule has an updated part to correct this issue. It is simply a bolt that is maybe a half an inch longer. They will send it to you at no charge if you give them a call. So, to answer your question, the bolt is screwing into the captive nut insert inside of the rack stem. Thule told me this is an issue with my truck and with all late model Subaru’s. I hope this helps. Please consider giving this video a like and subscribing to my channel.
@@averagejoevideo9556 it’s a 2011 Volvo xc60. What I think the issue is that the captive nut is non-existent in the bike hitch housing. Thank you for the feed back.
It should work with that style of bike as long as you have the adaptor bar. In my opinion, a better but more expensive Thule option would be the the Thule T2 Pro XTR. That particular unit uses a wheel clamp instead of a frame clamp. However, it’s almost double the price.
@@averagejoevideo9556 Thanks for the answer. You're right, my concern with XTR it's the price. What's your opinion about Thule Helium Pro?, some posts said bikes hit each other. I hope to choose the right rack.
@@averagejoevideo9556 thank you! I just bought one and didn’t see anyone demonstrate it in the videos I had been watching, so I was worried it didn’t! Thanks for the quick response!
I wish I found this prior to the step about the Thule logo facing down! I will need to correct!! Their pictures aren’t good and must use same company as IKEA….lol

Stevew29 is right about the long bracket going in the front and the shorter one goes in the back,.. thanks Stevew29
Your video really helped me put this rack together; the instructions were awful! Thanks for posting and sharing!!

Does this works with double suspension carbon bikes where the top tube is not straight, adding adaptor bar to the bike?

Did your bike rack come with the locks?
yes, 2 for the wheel cradles and 1 for the hex bolt
Does it tilt away with the bikes on?
Yes, it tilts away with the bikes on.
