  • There is a larger and larger number of people paying for 131 motor builds while 124 and 128s have been built for a number of years. Is the 131 a better motor build or crate motor for the rider or are people just wasting cash?

    Anyone that's doing a 124, 128, or a 131 should already have put in the research to fully understand that it's not just a motor build that power transfers many other places, it's the risk you take when riding hard is your style, just built my S&S 124 and there's not one Harley built motor including the SE 131 that can touch me low or high end. Knowledge with research hours is the key Brother ride safe and nice scooter

      I'm doing a 128 with 550 cam this month..do you think that's better than SE 131? And why? Thanks

    If you decide to use a 131 crate engine your going to have the same issues with clutch and compensator as a 124 or a 128. I used all S&S parts including cam, oil pump, pistons and lifters so I feel the bike will be more reliable than stock H.D. Parts.

    are the 131 crate motors worth the hype? I put 10,000 trouble free miles on mine last year. I'd say yes

      Personally I think they are a great platform just the same as 124,128s etc. All about who builds them and how you ride em

    Ive seen some great 114 cam swap, tuner, and exhaust builds. One set up did 122hp and 134 tq

    2 year warranty is nice, but 2 years go by quick. Ill stick with stage 2 114", plenty of powah

      Agreed. You put a cam in then it's even more of a beast

    My 124 makes 150ft pounds and 130hp and was much cheaper than Harley's 131. The extra power is a game changer on a touring bike in my opinion.

      What elevation are you seeing that at? And do you have head work done. I have the fuel moto 124 kit and at 8,000 elevation i saw 115hp and 132ft tq

    Great video. I’m in the middle of that 131 build you are talking about. I went with the a la carte option though. Yup, brakes are next. Nice bike by the way. 👍🏾👊🏾

    They get sponsored. That helps a lot. You can get a stage 2 with an S&S cam that can get serious torque numbers. I'm not sure tif he expense of the 131ci build it's worth it.

    • @MeathedMoto
      @MeathedMoto  4 роки тому +2

      It does but still 120 hp on a base tune isn't bad. I agree you can do a cam and put out close to those numbers but there's nothing like saying I got a 124 or 131 instead of a 114 with a cam.

      @@MeathedMoto It's not the size of the motor that matters, it's the motion of the cam...Don't get a cubic inch complex. It's also super expensive.

    No matter what performance build it don’t start and end on the upper components. Your stock crank, compensator, clutch basket, clutch conversion kit etc need to be replaced to accommodate that additional torque and HP or those components will fail in due time.

    This video depressed me! New to Harley 2021 Ultra Limited. Just did a stage 3 122 kit, 462 Power cam and SE clutch and springs. $4300. !! I tried to stop the build and buy an SE 131 kit I had found the night before. They (so they say) already had the heads going back on when I got to the dealer. It would have cost me another $2k to do the 131 kit and me eat the installed 122 kit parts. I guess I came to my senses and had them finish the stage 3. I also have Rinehart DBX 4.5 slip ons, Fuel moto tuning inserts, SE Hi Flow air cleaner. Is it better yes definitely! Is it what I want NO! I am so pissed off that I did not know anything about the Harley warranty BS or potential sumping issues even with improved oil pump. With the 131 if you decided to abandon the warranty you can easily achieve 140hp with minimal upgrades or a tune. I am literally sitting here at the moment with a cart full at Fuel Moto ready to abandon the warranty that I wasted $2k trying to maintain. And buy a Woods-22xe cam kit, Jackpot header, fueling oil pump and cam plate, power vision tuner $2500. plus probably $800. labor to get 125-130 hp. Now at crate motor cost with a stage 3 aftermarket 122. I spoke to Moonshine prior to doing any work. $11,500. quoted to me by Aaron for one their hyped out motors. So I either ride out the season and do nothing and sell my motor with an SE 122 kit (at 2k miles) and Buy a prebuilt. Or drop another $3500.

    • @MeathedMoto
      @MeathedMoto  3 роки тому +1

      My point was more on the fact that you get a warranty with the 131 crate motor. If you're a guy that rides across the country a lot if you have a problem you can get it fixed at no expense. Yours makes more power, and may be more reliable but like all things mechanical they can fail. For 2 years you have a cushion for if something happens it's covered, in 2 years whose to say shit can't happen to your 128. More power to you man. You're talking to a guy who is happy with his 107 with a cam upgrade.

      Moonshine Harley Davidson in Nashville builds both 128 and 131 motors and they basically say the 128 is much better

      To each their own. They also back their work with a warranty too, matter which way you go though.

      @@MeathedMoto there are a lot of extended warranty companies that cover aftermarket big bore kits and other components as long as the cam isn’t over .550 lift, and the parts are installed and tuned by a licensed shop. Know someone who had a 124 and he kept snapping belts and broke a compensator and it was all covered by his aftermarket warranty. Paid 2100 for mine and it’s good for 7 years with wear and tear coverage.

    Your math is bad!!!! Lol
    8k miles last year, 20k now, that’s not 2 more thousand miles this year, that’s 4K more miles this year. 12k miles this year, vs 8k miles last year

    • @MeathedMoto
      @MeathedMoto  2 роки тому

      So I bought the bike with 5300 miles on it. First year few month of owning it since I bought it in July I had roughly 13k at the end. I ended that year with 24k. Last year (2021). I ended the year are 32k and now I just crossed 36k. My math isn't perfect because I don't always keep exact numbers. All I know is that in 3 years of owning it I've put on 31,000 miles.

    • @MeathedMoto

      Idk. I know places that do motor builds like Moonshine HD back their motor work with a warranty. I wouldn't be surprised if HD doesn't have a warranty on parts but the dealerships themselves probably back their work
