He's an Angel, he knows what's sup with him being faithful forever and knows forgiveness and loving everyone he sees and including a demon and a gift from god of him being a strong warrior, he knows that every words he finds offensive from anyone including Lucifer, he slides it down and doesn't react to what his brother says and points out that he's there for him
For me Amenadiel is the (only) character that evolve this much

I would love to see more of "this" Lucifer. Dark, honest, direct, hitting where it hurst the most. He was so devilish in this scene, even without he's face. I would love to see him change to this "style" more permanently.
This isn't really Lucifer though - it was hard for him to be so vicious I think, and he was quite upset by it. But he wanted to hurt his brother back, and you could see him make the decision to do it. Tom E and DB Woodside totally nailed this scene

This nasty side is as much part of Lucifer as is his loneliness, his glee, his charm and his wits. He has a mean side and it pops through when he feels cornered. I rather think he felt threatened by Amenadiels analysis of him having changed for the better and Amenadiels belief that the later possibly was sent to support/help Lucifer to become a better angel (another potental manipulation atempt by God). And he was painfully reminded that he wasn't there when Chloe was in danger (which obviously irritates him a lot). All of this together triggered a burst of unsettling emotions which made him want to hurt Amenadiel. Lucifer Morningstar is a lot, but not the pure harmless angel who is misunderstood by everybody. He didn't fall from heaven as a victim of a conspiracy after all.

I just for once want to see lucifer fully punish someone without being stopped either in hell if they die or he kills them and how that plays out.
Seleuce remind yourself also that Lucifer is very prideful, egotistical, narcissistic, vain..and it's these things that won't allow Lucifer to admit out loud that he cares deeply for Chloe and her daughter, and his caring for Chloe i think goes a lot deeper and again he can't admit it or say it out loud because of who he is, he thinks love will brand him as weak, soft and not the powerful Lord of Hell he became to be, then he comes to earth and meets a rather beautiful blue eyes detective her name Chloe Jane Decker who is a mom to an 8 year old daughter..that is another thing i have yet to find anything on Lucifer hating children because i have a feeling he doesn't hate them he doesn't understand them, he can sense how innocent and pure they are and that one day they will fall to the trappings of this planet and become consumed by the violence and hate..but yet in the pilot episode when Chloe goes to Trixie's school and Lucifer ends up defending her in the first ten minutes of meeting her.
That was a hard (but believable) watch. Only with family can people start off joking and laughing and then quickly descend into tears and insults. Excellent scene and as posted elsewhere easily the best scene of the series to date. I sat watching dumbstruck when Luci gave us a glimpse of how cruel he can be and when Amenadiel angelically took it and then just walked away I actually said "wow."

Amenadiel was an ass in this scene. He openly admitted he stands by Lucifer's side only because of dad's test, then takes a noral high ground.

It’s a very interesting clash of philosophical approaches to faith, too. Amenadiel submits himself to the idea of God’s plan, regardless of the pain it causes him, and follows it to the end. It spares him the agony of questioning purpose. Lucifer rages against God’s plan because the only way he knows how to define himself now is through the contradiction of it. The thought of submission brings him no peace.
One of the best scenes of Lucifer, Tom Ellis plays the role in absolute perfection. I still remember when i was binge watching and heard the line, "to remind you of the time you once mattered" Gave me literal goosebumps. His brother wasn't there for him when he was abandoned, but now he tries to be there to get "Attaboy" from his father and not because of love for his brother. it's the pain of a broken man we can feel in the genius writing and the brilliant production.

It's ironic how Amenadiel turned the tables on Lucifer in this scene. Despite having his wings, his powers, money and a different woman ever night, it is Amenadiel that has all he wants in life as he now knows his purpose for existence while it is Lucifer that must go out of his way to define who he is. The one with nothing has all he needs yet the one with everything can not be satisfied...

I mean tbh that’s literally how real life works anyway. If you keep chasing materialistic superficial irrelevant things to gain popularity, or to fit in... you will never be satisfied because there will always be something else you need.
The character development for amenadiel is amazing. Now that he’s wiser he realized those hateful words Lucifer says to him is just another test designed to hurt him. to test him to see if he stays strong enough to still watch Lucifer’s back despite his hateful words

Luci responded the way he did because Amenadiel spoke the truth- and Luci wanted to ‘show’ or ‘prove’ to him he hadn’t changed, and that he is just as cruel and merciless as he has always been. Instead, he revealed his own self-hatred. I’d say his attempt backfired spectacularly.

I love how Amenidiel has changed. Strong enough to hold his own after some incredibly hurtful words from his brother.
Lucifer is still having trouble accepting the fact he has as well, that he has become this caring person. But regardless, we see how much he is hurting here; that he is still broken inside.

Lucifer has a lot of pain inside, probably he's the most tortured soul in existence. And it all stems from his family, so when Amenadiel gets too close for comfort Lucifer lashes out, desperately trying to drive his brother and the feelings away.
Amenadiel was crueler, though. He basically told him that he was willing to care JUST because God ordered so. Notice the tone of the word NOW that you're evolving. As if before, he wouldn't have bothered. That's why Lucifer lashed out.
Both wanted to help each other, but they used a completely wrong path to do so.

@@chemicalpoisons yep, let's not forget that Lucifer thinks of himself as the bad son and. the ultimate root of all evil, so if his bro comes and tells him, "now that you are evolving", its implied that he agreed with that vision of him as failed and bad.
If my big brother came and talked to me like that, from that high horse, high roading me all the way to the end, I would probably make him regret it.
Can Lucifer not accept the fact that there are many people in his life that love and care for him deeply? And the fact that he himself is caring so much also.
he's the devil. no one is suppose to love and care for him and for someone, and more than one to, just doesn't happen in his beliefs.
Lucifer has spent most of existence, having people hate and despise him and look down on him and seeing him solely as the embodyment of evil. He just can't understand people seeing him differently, he is so full of self-loathing that the idea of having people care for him and him caring for them, scares him, since its not something he use to and is probably afraid that if he let people get to close to him, if he lets them in, he'll been seen as weak and fragile and get hurt, and that is something he can't handle.
He does not want to be close to anyone. They get too close he blows it up. Just who he is. No blame or anything.
I hope the show goes for several more seasons, but I've begun to try and figure how it can end. Either Lucifer stays as he was when they met and Chloe moves on. Or they get together and he becomes human so when he dies his soul is judged on the life he has led. We can have a lot of good in between until then.

This truly shows how cruel Lucifer can be, and also how much hurt he has suffered. Only someone deeply hurt, will how how to hurt someone else the same way and know the power of each word. They know how deep they are sticking their knife into someone and how soul crushing it can be

I was floored how well Tom played a character with Borderline Personality Disorder.
Possibly the best dialogue in season 3 so far. Definitely in my opinion. Love the heavenly bros. This is the kind of Lucifer I signed up for.
It's actually really sad if you think about it, that the "soul" that Lucifer talks about that reminds him of Amenadiel, is actually more something that reminds of him of himself. He's just projecting it onto Amenadiel due to his own insecurities. Lucifer feels like he deserves to be punished, and that if things finally do go his way or the "punishment" stays away, he ricochets back into anger and sadness because he cannot for the life of him understand why one would offer him such kindness, in this case the kindness that Amenadiel is showing him.
Lucifer is the genuine example of a self-saboteur.

What a good ending, Lucifer hearing that his father still controls his life and forced him to change. The anger, hate and his breakdown is all because he is frustrated after everything he does too keep away his dad and control his life his dad is still pulling him in the direction of love and car. And the broken glass illustrating who Lucifer is. Honestly this season will probably take on the theme of who Lucifer is and the pull f who he wants to be and who his father wants him to be. I hope we get to see the evil devil Lucifer with his true power in this season they can really go dark here
Johnnyblack3 Reviews Perhaps he can just be full tilt evil and go to war with humanity enabling all the criminals? At that point his former friends will realize he is not worth saving and they cannot stop him. Maybe God will directly intervene and eject him to Hell at that point. Would be a way to end the series.
This whole story is the story of the redemption of Lucifer, the most absolute evil. You understand that if he again becomes that Evil, as shown in culture, then all the pain he has experienced, all those feelings. What will they do for him?

This is the Lucifer scene I always rewatch the most, this scene tells up so much in only a few minutes and it works perfectly, the tone, the music, the acting, this scene even inspired some character trait to one of my original characters, can't wait to see what the future hold for each actor from this series. 🍹

This scene. I love this scene. Lucifers anecdote and his lashing out seemed so realistic, painful and full of venom.
I also love how even though Amenadiel knew what Lucifer was doing, it didn’t stop his words from hurting any less.
Thank you, LuciChloe, for posting these scenes. Down here in the states, we have to wait an extra day to see Lucifer. I love knowing what to expect and seeing these scenes ahead of time helps me get more out of the show. This is the most powerful scene I've seen all season. WOW.

I saw a post prior to this episode talking about the soul crushing ending.
The whole episode we were joking saying “oh this is not bad this is funny, and sweet and etc.”
THEN THIS SHIT PLOWS THROUGH AND NOW THE FLOOR IS WHERE I LIVE
If you ask me this is strikingly similar to some forms of depression. Someone acknowledges you, says you're not alone, yet your own personal bitter hatred of yourself/your life causes you to deflect and attempt to hurt them in response, maybe your subconscious trying to push away anyone you love so as to avoid hurting them more in the future.
But then they refuse to be pushed away, and you're still angry because now you know that you're truly in for a hard time. Because it's easy to be angry at the world for your own misgivings. But it's bloody hard to forgive yourself when the world refuses to give up on you.
I would hate Amenadiel if he was my brother, not much worse than having a brother who constantly reminds you that he is only helping you and having your back simply because a parent wants them to. I think that might have something to do with Lucifers anger. I'm a big brother, and I'm there for my little brothers simply because I love them, I would stand against anyone for them, including my parents.
Season 3 had its issues, but the relationship evolving between these two was one of the best parts. It’s important for Amenadiel to hear the truth of what his brother did in hell - a taste of just how being the devil is its own punishment. Makes him reconsider himself and where Lucifer’s coming from.
But it’s also an important counterweight to the argument over faith the series posits. It’s easy to take Lucifer’s words at face value, but Amenandiel’s faith does wind up paying off and leading him to a truth. That makes him a great foil to the devil, who no longer has faith in anything beyond the capability of our failings.
The end is the best when he peers into the broken reflection, how could he, all knowing all full of wisdom not know he is the cause of his own situation but he blames everyone around him. In this scene you see that his pride is his greatest weakness
No one seems to be talking about this bit so I will.the story Lucifer tells Amenadiel really shows why he is so annoyed by Amenadiel,lucie knows that he’s having a crisis of faith but he won’t own up to it. He’s so convinced that everything is in “gods plan” that he doesn’t allow himself to be honestly mad at their father.
After watching all the Lucifer episodes and the only things I felt that God is a very bad father ! 😯

Their family is so messed up...why does it take they're "fathers" demand for him to act like a decent brother...
That could be what angers Lucifer. It's possible he believes Amenadiel watches over him because he thinks that's what God wants of him, but if it wasn't for that, what reason would Amenadiel care otherwise? The only other possible reason is that they're brothers and all they've got is each other, but Lucifer can't bring it to himself to see it that way since that is the way he is from his experience.
Well it would help if their father would act like a half decent parent...
Lucifer in this scene reminds me of myself when I was a kid/teenager..hurt..angry at the world, scared..but happy when I felt the anger..it was like an old friend...you bite the heads off ppl who are just trying to help you..that want only what's best for you..because you figure it's one less person who'll leave when they figure out how unworthy you are of anyone's empathy. Sure,when you abuse them, they leave..but you think it'd be better, because you pushed them away on *your* terms...finally something in your life you *can* control. Only later do you realize that it's not them you hate..it's yourself. But by that time, you're all alone anyway..it's a self fulfilling prophecy.
Oh thank God at least one decent scene in the third season. I was beginning to think the writers had gone Full Three Stooges on us.

I feel disappointed that so much of the promise and deep themes of the first two seasons have been abandoned in favor of the comedic angle.
But i liked THIS scene very much, Tom Ellis gave a nice depth to Lucifer that we havent seen for a while.

Actually it is a pattern. Every single season the plot hits at episode 4 and further. The first 3 episodes are always full comedy or have little development.

Hard to put into words how deeply patronizing and hurtful Amenadiel was in this scene. For Lucifer to be used, as some sort of "test" for Amenadiel to regain his wings, must have crushed him. I'm quite amazed some commenters are defending Amenadiel in this scene.

He was in immense pain because Amenadiel just said very hurtful things that opened up some very serious old wounds.
Playing the piano would reveal his pain (his weakness) something he couldn't allow, so he fell back on the easiest emotion to fall back on.
Lucifer used his pain, to draw his anger. He then used those feelings to hurt Amenadiel and to push him away. Amenadiel got too close to Lucifer's most rawest vulnerability so Lucifer struck back. He hurt Amenadiel too push him away and thus 'protect' himself.

I'm seeing theories that the soul Lucifer talks about might actually be the Sinnerman, and I'm kind of pleasantly surprised and wondering if that's the case. Then again, another part of me agrees that he just uses this story of that soul to affect Amenadiel and that the mention of the soul has no further significance, but I could be wrong, we'll see.
And then it turned out to be Cain fromvtge bible I really would have liked to know who the soul was and if he was in any other material because his character sounded interesting
