60 grams is 60 grams, whether it's 4,5, 6, or 7 inch. A 7inch is not gonna perform better than a smaller canister. All a 7inch canister has is a cardboard sleeve inside to make it 7inches.
Wrong some 5,6,7” shells have tails and unique effects such as rings.
@@CHICAGOFIREWORKS actually he is 100% correct. There is a push for these larger cans because there is more profit to be made labeling it a 7" shell instead of a 4" even though the total comp will fit in a 4" or 7" can.
Not only do the 7 inch canisters not perform better, they're going to cost more because a lot of the cost of fireworks is the shipping cost from china and the 7 inch shells take up more space in the shipping containers.
That’s wrong, there are 7 inch shells with 120 grams instead of the normal 60 and the 120 grams ones are louder and have a nicer effect
@@2011bluemanI had 7 inch shells with 120 grams instead of the normal 60 and the 7 inch are much better than like a 5 inch
You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistlin' bungholes, no spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker don'ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistlin' kitty chaser?
Snakes and Sparklers are the only ones I like.
They do have porch Pounders though 😅
Party store owner made a smart move by getting extra exposure having both businesses peak interests bringing in customers that normally would not swing by.
Steve and Kathy are awesome! Definitely stop by if you're looking for great fireworks in the Grand Rapids area.
I always go the late afternoon of July 4th, can’t beat those prices
These two are way better and knowledgeable than the young teenagers who are useless at all the shops
If you are celebrating the 4th this year stop by Crazy Kathy's Fireworks!
Funny how quickly they tense up and can't give an answer when you start asking about money... "How much was your initial investment?"- "Ah, um, well, it's kinda hard to say. Um, we bought racks, and a tent, ah, um (nervous looks)." It's a simple question and any business owner would know the answer right off the bat. Example- "My initial startup cost was $15/k." See how easy that was! Our culture around money is so weird sometimes. Maybe it's the IRS that has everyone nervous... Can't say I blame em. Honestly they look like great people and I love the business though. No shade being thrown, just a funny observation. I hope they keep on making people happy while turning a profit at the same time!
The overhead for fireworks costs are hard to explain in a quick answer. There's fire extinguishers, store licenses, product costs, POS fees, card processing, labor, tent rentals, cost of bags, insurance on your location (not cheap), cost of a warehouse, container to store fireworks, fuel for transport, etc.
@@jamiem.362 Doesn't seem complex... Seems standard. Most businesses have many associated costs. That's what records (spreadsheets) are for. It literally keeps track of everything and the cute little line at the bottom will reveal the mysterious costs of doing business. Maybe I just don't understand? Anyways- still hope they do well with the business 👍
@hmmmmmmmm...5910 Yeah, I get it, but since the mark up on fireworks is so large lots of people assume that the owner is making TONS of money, but the reality is there are much higher costs when dealing with the overhead for fireworks sales! Shipping of fireworks, licenses, and insurance are MUCH more expensive than your basic retail business!
They were put on the spot and didn't want to reveal the actual cost. I've been asked these types of questions before and you have to be on your feet and use the right answer. It's a nice way of saying I know the actual numbers and it's none of your damn business.
@@jamiem.362 Markup on fireworks is not large. If you see high prices on items then your getting ripped off by greedy people. 100% profit can get the job done quite nicely.
Great work! Happy for you 🎉🎇
Really loved the video... might get me to open my own stand haha
Awesome how you both set up fireworks the QR codes are brilliant ❤ thank u
Looks like a 10k or less tent setup plus fireworks 🎆 and another 10k on security and insurance = 20K seasonal business investment!
I am surprised they didn't want to give us even a ballpark number on their cost and profit margin. He didn't even tell us how much fireworks he bought this year, or cost of the security per night, etc. I pay $700/year for $1M liability policy for my business. It would be nice to know these numbers to make an evaluation if its worth it in my area.
U just inspired me to quit my job!!
Great people! I dont know you and never have met you, but can tell with your interaction with each other and your statements. Best of luck to you!
I'm so glad we stopped price tagging all of our products!! We now use the Clover POS which enables us to scan items! This saves so much time on our inventory!!
Nice selections, nice tent, don’t be fooled by 7-inch canister shells, your paying for extra cardboard, 4 and 5 inch shells are the only shells I buy.
You got scammed cuz I had some 7 inch shells with 120 grams instead of 60
@@ilovedabsandfireworksyou can only have 60G IN A CONSUMER SHELL
@@ilovedabsandfireworksnot consumer level
@@AADPWtrue, its only legal to sell 60g but ive seen some heavier loaded shells especially Master Shells
Here in Missouri we have all sorts of 7in that are legit it’s like a firework you’d see from another country how hard they hit
Business is booming
I've definitely thought of opening a stand here in Texas. I buy wholesale for my personal use and even without getting vendor pricing the difference between wholesale and retail is huge. I just love fireworks and we can do them 365 days a year here. But you can only sell them during the holidays.
You can sell them to me cheaper I’d be glad to buy some from haha
What part of Texas ? I am in Houston ! Cheers !!
@@mckmotifx8 I’m in seabrook tx pretty much the same
@@mckmotifx8 northwest of Houston
Fireworks are the funnest thing I know I could burn every day if it was legal
They beat around the bush as to how much is their investment and no idea year over year their margins wrong ppl to be in a business! 😅
Damn. That huge one in the back would be about 1k in a Phantom fireworks store. Nice that there are those who don’t mark them up as much!!!!
If you want to buy more than $500 worth, do not waste your time with places like these, I paused the math and they are upcharging 60% on some of those items, usually they try to double the price and make it sound good with buy one get one. Just buy wholesale online.
My guy wat you talking about is called yappin they have 500gram cakes for less than 20$ 24cans-36 for 40-120 & high falutin & hit the road for 36$like they said they give the best deal they can also have buy one get one on 90% of they products also have 40% off of total so try again & they have brands of red apple -brothers-black cat-dominator-winda-showtime-world class- all very good brands yes wholesale youd get a ton more but that duplicates & some states you can get into some serious trouble shipping fireworks especially if you are caught as they are delivering fireworks to you
@@user-vr2op9qe5h unless your in California idk any state that doesn’t allow 1.4 to ship directly to you, half of those brands are ass, the price for one of those cakes it half the price of a case, they have to make money, idk why your defending 60% markup.
Seem like nice people!
Does anything get damp over night from the moisture in the air? I'm from Louisiana so I guess it's a little more humid here.
I would definitely shop here before Phantom Fireworks. They two times the price. Geeshhhhhhhh
Phantom's business model was based on the fact that most of the states in the area didn't allow the "good stuff" to be sold. I think both Phantom and Shelton's fireworks are going to experience large drops in business if they haven't already because Phantom is overpriced and now you can buy in a lot more states, and Shelton's quality is mostly garbage.
@2011blueman I agree .. I didnt know anything about mom and pops firework stores .. until this year.. watching UA-cam . So this year before going to phantom down the road mom and pops tent I stop in and I looked at the ad paper 📃 I had and what they had in the tent .. I stayed in the tent .. ⛺️ it was two cars .. u right they missed out.. thats all we have around here is phantom
Crazy Kathy's/ Krazy Kaplans is there a connection here?
If you could sell fireworks besides July 4, new years you could make some big bucks. But in most cases it’s not worth keeping a place open year round. You can make a buck or 2 just running a temporary stand during the 4th and new years. Shipping costs have skyrocketed and the mark up is nowhere near what it used to be.
Not true I know several friends that’s fun big stores and they are making really good money! Hood product gets people coming back.
How much do you sell your highfalutin and hit the road Jack for?
$44.99 I paused the video 😁
I’ve been operating stands for 3 yrs for a company in text getting about 20% commission on each of my stands.
I have a team and I have the means and resources to dig in and do it myself. Who’s your supplier? I’m thinking of going over to China to a trade show and get the best stuff
Less risk and overhead especially if you have multiples
this is cool. i love fireworks i want to do it too.
You can only open them in the East Coast and some in west Coast like Nevada and Wyoming and Washington State but the others in west Coast you can't dued to federal law dictate fireworks and to the people right to also allowed them to the following holidays 4th of July. New years Chinese New Years and others
You can sell them in Montana for a total of 15 days per year. Any type now too!!!
those prices are heinous
The 7inch shells do not perform better. They all have 60G of powder in them.
Don't underestimate the prices of those shipping containers. . . You're looking at 35k or more each shipping container you order straight from China
Also my second comment you can't buy sky fireworks or explosive fireworks or sparklers sizes unless your in a state that allowed it and it doesn't allow people to start a business unless it in a state where it legal to start a business mostly are in Wyoming Washington state Nevada. Florida. Tennessee. Missouri. Ohio. Pennsylvania. And others
Start it with a match.
I just go to Costco
Thank you! I’m opening store in Alaska
I only like snakes and sparklers.
@kylep3759 same with my 3 year old son, no loud noises
@@seanslawns I was making a Joe Dirt reference.
@@kylep3759 I know, sorry I didn’t acknowledge that, it was funny

@@seanslawns So your gonna' tell me that you don't have no black cats, no roman candles, or screaming mimis??? Sounds like they don't know their numbers.
Your dead wrong. They were put on the spot. It was a nice way of saying it's none of your damn business.
Did I miss the part of how to make 5 digit figures?
Nope it's there throughout the video.
He started from snakes and sparklers. Joe dirt taught him well
It's the man's business idea, but his wife speaks over him most of the video. Jesus lady!
So then this should've been called "how to start a fireworks business right when your state allows good fireworks and you know people in the firework industry" 😂😂😂
Who cares about revenue? Your net profit must be pretty small if your revenue is only five figures.
This doesn't really provide any information on how to start a fireworks stand business
5 figure revenue doesn't equate to 5 figure profit
buy a cheap panel van and sell int he same spot from the van - never have to 'set up' and you will carry your inventory with you (if that's legal in your area) - could have a van with inventory and a setup outside - take an hour maybe.
YEAH IF YOU LIKE SELLING THE SAME SHIT 50 OTHER PLACES ARE WITH IN 5 MILES. FOR A WEEK.
This is a load of shit. Firework prices SKYROCKETED. What used to be $60 is now $105. I stopped buying
3 days out of the year no thanks
Many of these fireworks this 2 American couple is selling is forbidden in Sweden to buy in fireworks stores similar to firearms stores there is so many restrictions to fireworks usage compared to firearms restrictions so alll fireworks in Sweden today are only buyable for minimum 18 years of age! Rockets with wood stick is forbidden for common people only pyrotecnics with fireworks licence is by Swedish fireworks rules is allowed to use rockets with guiding wood stick in a public area with permission from Swedens Cops! Many fireworks these 2 couple are selling is by swedish rules forbidden to sell to people underneath age of 18 so American fireworks users has plenty of fun whole year around compared to Swedish fireworks users that only is allowed to use fireworks on new years evening (nyårsafton) and day 30 April (Valborgsmässoafton) but people can also use fireworks on Halloween (Allahelgonanatten) or All Saints day (Alla Helgons Dag) and all fools evening (Påskafton) or all fools day (Påskdagen)!
Nice , get rich ripping people off.
The husband seemed a bit short and irritated towards the end. Or is it just me?
As someone from Michigan with dogs and friends with ptsd, I just wanted to thank you for not helping anything.
Just go to your vet to get them anxiety helping meds to help them be calm during the night
@@Mdmoher I don't want to live in a crummy maga state surrounded by low information voters.
@@Mdmoher Actually don't. We have way more than enough people whining around here because of their dogs.
Buncha toxic pollution
Cool
If you want my business (and I am sure this is the same for other people too) do not sell fireworks for absurd prices and rip people off. I have fallen victim to that and I do not go back to those firework stands anymore. If you give me a good deal I will keep coming back to your stand twice a year for the foreseeable future.
Have to be a Indian to sell.
You guys need to incorporate the California firework stand design for your storefront - Google it (images) . - it’s safer (keeps idiots from lighting the whole stand on fire) and the outside structure is more prominent. Oh, and there’s a psychology behind it, people don’t need to browse and touch fireworks like they can in your stand. If they are seen from afar, it creates more allure and interest - They point at what they want to buy - you’re welcome :) - oh…and it virtually eliminates theft from your customers.
Lol wow
No need for all that, they're not in CA
This isn't an issue in most other states people tend to behave better, not always, but cali is definitely not the place to own a store.
