Our prayers go out to those crew members. Hopefully they have a speedy recovery. That would be scary to hear that horn in port. We hope everyone got back to the ship in time. That is good news from princess. Those benefits are significant for sure.
i wish there were better premier packages for those who do not drink, as the other perks are great, but cost is ridiculous if you do not drink. We are scheduled for a 35-day cruise in November and a package would add over $5,000 for the cruise for the two of us! I would rather just pay for a couple of specialty dining nights instead.
My 2nd transatlantic crossing on the QE2 had an exciting incident…the funnel caught on fire. The crew was very calm and kept fire hose on it. We watched for a bit but everything was back to normal soon.
Glad to see there is no longer a limit on drinks, since it is important to keep hydrated with non alcoholic drinks, and I don't want to count drinks whilst on holiday. Unlimited specialty dining sounds good, but based on my experience with Virgin, it's almost impossible to make a reservation (and even if you do, they can mysteriously vanish). Unfortunately, on Virgin, there is no quality dining venue for those without a reservation.
When I was on the Carnival Triumph when there was a fire in the engine room, they couldn’t open the door for several hours because the heat sensor showed it was still too hot on the other side.
We normally book the plus package, byt in May when we cruised with Princess we decided to give the Premier a go. That was a great decision, and for the small amount extra it really did make a big difference. The problem i can see now with unlimited speciality dining included is, as you said, trying to get reservations. There's a very good chance that this will be a good selling package and demand dor the extra dining will far outweigh the availability especially on the older ships that have limited venues. Lets hope this doesn't backfire on Princess.
I’m thinking the unlimited specialty dining does make it worth the increase in cost. I liked the other perks but didn’t think the price was worth it. Now I do.
Scary having a fire onboard...hope the affected crew members are OK. We have Princess cruises booked with the Plus pkg., which is fine for us. Understand the Premier pkg. is being enhanced, but price is going up, also. Don't think it's worth it for us.
On my Princess cruise the bar tenders got to know me.. they often didn't even add the drinks into the system. I never walked up smashed but I drank ALOT I just took my time doing it.
Planks and Steamers are considered casual dining which is unlimited in the current Premier pkg. Non alcoholic drinks from mocktails to soda and coffee are unlimited already with the current Plus and Premier pkgs.
I might need to upgrade to Premier on my upcoming cruise. I wasn't able to get reservations in the MDR any night, and I wasn't looking forward to eating in the buffet every night.
It’s about time the port/government took action against protesters that disrupt travel of others. I’m happy with the Princess Plus package. I wouldn’t spring for the Premium package as I doubt it will be worth it as you probably won’t be able to get a reservation at the specialty dining.
As I understand the upgraded Premier Package the cost will increase from $80 to $90 a day. Not a bad price for unlimited Specialty dining, however given the difficulty that many of us have experienced with booking any dining options, I wouldn’t upgrade to Premier, at least not until the dining reservation system on the App has been fixed assuring passengers the opportunity to reserve dining well in advance of the embarkation date. In regard to the protestors, they have a right to protest, based on the U.S. Constitution but not the right to impede commerce. Not sure about the law in The Netherlands, but I agree with you on what should be fair punishment. Good information Don! Thanks!
The extra perks of the Princess premier package are good provided you can use them. My concern is that you pay the extra money for the upgraded package and then find that the specialty dining is booked out all or most nights of your cruise.
I'm worried! If you increase the number of people buying the premium package, is there also a plan to 1) increase the number of bars on board the ship and 2) increase the amount of space within the Specialty Restaurants? The lineups at bars and numbers wanting to make reservations on board are going to be overwhelming! I see a future of more frustration and anger on board cruise ships!!!!
The unlimited Specialty Dining with the new Premier package will cause those restaurants to book up well before the cruise starts. Start booking online as soon as you can.
I think it will really be difficult to get reservations for specialty dining. I was unable to get reservations at Rudi's on our last cruise even though I tried to reserve several weeks before we cruised. This will just make it harder.
My husband and I would be in a lot of trouble if they ever needed to leave early from a port. We do not sign up for Internet nor do we have international service on our phones, but I’m sure that you’re on excursion that those people probably were well informed about it. By the way the magic and Turks and Caicos are my favorite things.
Sounds like it might be worth temporarily upgrading your cell phone plan to include foreign phone coverage if you're travelling in places prone to have hurricanes during hurricane season...
Wait. Princess includes specialty coffees and non-alcoholic drinks in their 15-drink limit? Wow. Meanwhile, Carnival's Cheers program has a 15-drink limit, but only for alcoholic drinks. Sodas, coffees, "virgin" drinks and milkshakes don't count against the limit.
No, the new enhanced Premier is not worth it. Princess Plus is barely worth it as is, and spending more to get unlimited specialty dining will lose its luster awfully fast when you either can't get in, or end up having to dine at an unreasonable hour. As is, I book specialty dining the absolute soonest I can, and I RARELY get a time I want. Not to mention, how am I going to know MONTHS in advance what I want to do for dinner that night? What if something comes up on the ship I want to participate in? What if I meet you on the ship and that's the night we want to have a drink together? What if my wife isn't feeling well? You;re never going to get a suitable, alternate, dining time. More frustration = less cruising for us going forward. Gee, thanks Princess!
I'm a non-drinker. We are being penalized because of it. How about those who have a problem with being an alcoholic? It's time for the cruise lines to develop an all inclusive package for us. Come on, Princess, step up!
On ship leving early due to Ernesto. Would passengers have been given a heads up prior to leaving that the ship was monitoring the hurricane and to losten for the horn indicating it is leaving early? If you are on a tour that goes fae enough that you don't hear the horn, you are doomed. I recall videos of Norwegian Breakaway leaving early, but they were at a private beach so far easier to warn everyone to get back on ship ASAP. But when you donck in a country with tours etc, it isn't so easy to gather all passengers at the wrong time. And unlikely they will find a flight to next destination because of hurricane-related flight cancellations.
I can't imagine ANYONE having or needing15 drinks during their waking hours (excluding water). Removing the limit is going to make Princes another Carnival type experience. Sure, the cruise line says it won't let people get inebriated, but how to control or patrol that? Not a good idea.
Princess Plus, it's not worth it for me as on a 14-day cruise, me and my partner will only have 14 glasses of wine on the cruise, so it's better for us to buy the Wi-Fi and pay service charges and tips.
I think you are tugging on Superman's cape, spitting into the wind, and pulling the mask off the ol' Lone Ranger by continuing to rail against anti-cruise protests. I expect they will continue to grow, unfortunately, and get more damaging, such as ink in water pistols, etc.
I actually somewhat dislike the idea of unlimited specialty dinning being included... it is a limited resource on a ship, and, the fact is, that will mean the place you really like will most often be unavailable... a differentiation by price makes a more hassle-free division of the finite fine-dining available...
You are wrong to claim LNG is a superior pollution free fuel. It is not, The Icon of the Seas which uses LNG fuel, still has a carbon footprint equal to 12,000 cars going the same distance. But it carries only 7960 passengers and crew, Its the same as renting each passenger 1.5 cars to drive the cruise. That is not a reduction in impact over the alternate. LNG is no miracle its just impure propane chilled to liquid form. There is a valid problem at the core of the protests.
Hi Don! Question: we’re already booked/paid for with the Premiere package. Will we automatically receive the new expanded perks, or will we have to pay extra? Thanks!
I am of the firm opinion that those who don't like cruisers still have a right to free speech... there is already plenty of laws limiting violent protest & even severely disruptive ones... (actually probably a little too many limits in my opinion... at least, when it's an issue I agree with, anyway) a protest is meant to cause some disruption to be noticeable. by making the protest illegal, you are doing two things. 1) clearing the path for other illegal activity against cruisers ( for those seriously angry, you are less stopping the protest, & more removing a barrier against them taking more direct/severe action, outside of civilized means...) 2) inviting the protest groups to use thesame methods against you... Are you sure you perfectly know every law of every country you go to??? generally, there is an unwritten rule that organized tourists get a degree of leniency from the authorities... what if there were special pressure groups which are there to watch your every step and pressure a conviction to the maximum extent of the law... in many countries, the magistrates are local elected officials you know. you are a well traveled cruiser, here is a little quiz... 1) In which port of call can you go to prison for bribery if found giving a tip? 2) which common T-shirt Portrait can get you arrested & in which countries...? 3) giving to which common charity in the 90s makes you a Felon in the UK & the British foreign territories? 4) Where are you legally obliged to report a speeding taxi driver? 5) Which Kilt is illegal to wear unless specially authorized in Gibraltar....? as you see, a cruiser has quite a few pitfalls... I think it would be thus most wise not to wake the beast of judgement on your own head.

Hey Don, good updates today
Thanks !
Fire on a cruise ship is terrifying!
Thanks for the update Don, glad the injuries were not too bad.
15 drinks would get me hammered.
So, thankful the crew is going to be OK. They train for every situation to keep everyone safe in these types of situations.

We don’t do specialty dining, drink alcohol or get Wi-Fi.

With unlimited drinks I wonder if Princess will now give Carnival a run for their money with the number of onboard fights.

15 drinks does not count in coffee or other non-alcoholic drinks. The 15 was always just for alcoholic.
